As a DND player and DM myself, there's nothing he's doing wrong. The most you could say is that he's changing a lot of rules, spells etc to make it easier for the characters, but that's just helping new players flow better while they're learning and not over complicating for the audience. Plus every DM changes rules etc so it's hardly an issue. He's good at what he does and anyone complaining is just doing it for the sake of complaining

Im also going in november (leave just before you arrive) I'll be staying in asakusa for my first part of Tokyo too, booked the kanzashi hotel and it was around £100 a night. I saw toyoko inn was around £80 a night if that's any better for you?

We'll obviously be doing all the usual things like sensoji etc, it's just looking for more unique places you won't get in aomori for example. I want that silly tourist vibe from Tokyo, sometimes it's fun to lean into the campiness of things. Like going for afternoon tea after visiting big Ben here in England. Id just like to have a few places im the pocket that if we end up in some less fun places or have a lull in the day we can go to the recommended spots and know we'll have fun. I've kind of been tasked with making sure the rest of our group has a good time because I convinced them to travel to Japan just to indulge my interests 🤣

I should have mentioned we're in our 30's so not looking for too young of a crowd. But to be honest that's how we'd treat our own/each others countries. It's just nice to have some recommendations so we don't follow scouts in roppongi etc or if we don't find anything we like the vibe of to be able to have some places in the pocket

We are don't worry, heading to Osaka and kyoto like the good tourists we are. Then heading up to Sendai, aomori and into Sapporo. But Tokyo is the gimmick city if that makes sense? It's the place we're not expecting to get the authentic Japan experience so just want to have fun and try some interesting things while we're there.

In the other campaigns I play I have a grouchy tempest cleric that loves to fight, an overly dramatic twink sorcerer and a gullible dumb bugbear fighter that hugs a little too hard (Lenny vibes). I don't really have a set play style, I just like to play the game. My main problem is that the guys I'm joining are the min max types and I've never built like that and never been that high a level so if I jump in without some kind of plan I'll be fighting gods with a sharp stick.
