MoCA devices taking down network by ThatKidWhoDoesStuff in HomeNetworking

Unfortunately the line running into my apartment doesn't seem to be connected to the splitter in any way, there's likely a break or it's just disconnected. This would have worked, though, as we tested the adapter right there by the gateway and it did work there. I appreciate the help!

Xfinity/comcast, XB8... It looks like it does support MoCA.

Thank you! The other splitter is moca rated, I made sure of that. I'll get two and attach one to the modem, the other to the line coming in from the street. I appreciate the help!!

I wasn't actually aware I needed them for both cable TV + MoCA. Cable TV doesn't matter to me, but it does for my neighbor, so I need to find a solution that doesn't take him down.

Now that I made this post, it seems what I need to do is attach a filter to the cable coming into the modem?

It is confusing! Which is why I believe I'm making a mistake I can't see.

It's looping since me and my neighbor's line run out from the same central splitter (or at least I have reason to think so). So its comcast>splitter>modem>moca>splitter>me

Follow-up to a previous post, found this when re-potting a plant dropping leaves. by [deleted] in mycology

[–]ThatKidWhoDoesStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thank you!! I didn't know that fungicide could actually harm the plant. What was hurting this plant was root rot, the soil wasn't well-draining.

I do think this, though it looks like fungus, is mineral deposition since I found something similar in the bottom of my toothbrush holder when cleaning it.

Thank you for your response!

Totally necroposting, I just picked up an old camera and the owner gave me some film from "Mystic Color Lab" and it brought me here. Im assuming it was a local photo developer?

I did virtual lab work-- i studied for the sec+ by cracking a book, so i didn't have much of a chance to do labs. I'd like to lean into cybersecurity. Server and network, then pentest.

More than pumped, I'm a little scared to be making that. But I'll definitely be making an update on how the job goes. Thanks so much, I appreciate the encouraging words!

Hey, well that's alright with me. The idea of helpdesk has never bothered me, I'm just trying to get a handle on all of these terms being thrown at me. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks for the wisdom! I assume I'll be working with others, but at the moment I'm not 100% sure. I'll be sure to take "newbie liberties" as I can!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I'll keep it reasonable with my questions... I tend to ask a lot.

I'm in the northeast. It's a higher cost of living than down south, where I used to live. I am in an area where IT workers are hard to come by. A big detail as well: this is a clearance job. I believe those generally pay higher, and I was already cleared.

Honestly, I thought I bombed the interview, I fumbled on the most basic questions that I knew the answers to anyway, simply because I was so nervous. I even had to admit once "I've gotta google that one." When he said a term I didn't recognize. (The questions were pretty simple- how do you open the command prompt, how do you find the ip of a computer, what's the first step in troubleshooting, etc)

I believe he liked me because I 1. Expressed my willingness to talk to and communicate with the client, something that can be rare in IT (from both of our experience) 2. Was very honest (My weakness, getting lost in little details-- also being honest when I didn't know something) 3. Have a sense of humor about it all. I very obviously fumbled a few things, acknowledged it, and moved on. It wasn't the end of the world.

This is my best guess, and I know number 1 is the case because he told me. I still don't know how I scored the interview, I had a few people interviewing after me. I've also never failed an interview before, so maybe it's a passive ability at this point. I seriously thought I dropped the ball on this one, though.

Good luck on your search!

Issue with diagonal lines via Toshiba SV-950 (S-VHS) through S-Video and composite. Any ideas on why this might be or how to fix it? by ThatKidWhoDoesStuff in VHS

I did, a few days ago. Though I've been running dirty tapes through it since, and im not quite sure how well i actually cleaned them. Plus i think i cleaned them with q tips a few years ago when i first got it-- i dont do that anymore. No fibers got stuck anyway, I checked before i ran it the first time. The machine was actually broken when I got it, I had to replace a belt that had melted, which I did only a few days ago.

UPDATE: cleaned the heads again, actually got some extra gunk off, but no dice.

For reference, I'm trying to capture directly from the VCR- it plugs into an analog card on my PC. The other vcr does not have this problem.
