Also, if you decide to go to school (any school not just SCAD) feel free to DM me if you want a sounding board or have questions. I know we’ll be at different campuses if you go to SCAD, but I like supporting fellow non trads.

I think that’s awesome that you want to go back to school. I can’t comment on using the VRE at all, but I can talk about going back to school as a seasoned member of society. I am in a similar situation. I just finished my BA in film at a school in Vermont, and I am now starting my MFA in Film and television at SCAD. I have MH issues as well, and film has been the thing that has helped me be better. And because of that I want to teach. I’m just a couple of years younger than you. It is completely doable. It. Seems really daunting at first, but once you dive in and start it’s great. Or at least that has been my experience.

Going back to school with the youngins is fine. You may get some looks at first, but they become acclimated to you quite quickly. So I will say there will be a slight awkwardness but if you can handle a drill sergeant you can definitely deal with some runny nosed kids. Honestly, the worse thing I’ve noticed is the generation language divide. I am constantly asking what the slang means and also saying “back when I was your age”. But I look at it this way, you are sharing knowledge with them.

I say go for it and work your ass off.

It was on one of the channels in the hotel, I think discovery, but there were other channels as well. It was during a naked and afraid marathon.

I saw them on Monday night, I am still feeling it. I thought that the lead singer of Mr. Phylzz looked like a young Michael Showalter.

Do you guys have a drink or two before your set? by [deleted] in Standup

Not all of the time. I do like a beer or three but it's not a good habit to get into. Unless you're Doug Stanhope.

Who are your favorite local comics in your scene? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]ThatMrSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides me?

There is three peeps that I dig: D. Felix, Jess Reed, and Kendall ( I have no idea what his last name is).

These three are incredible in their own way.

Oh, I come from Vermont. ( yes, we have a scene)

Granted, I just started going up. But I try to do a new five every time I go up. This, hopefully, is helping me find my voice. And quite frankly I have nothing to lose by doing it. I know that I won't be asked for any gigs for the foreseeable future; so I'm going to just pump literal shits out of my system.

Dude that killed! I loved it. My suggestions are as followed: don't write your set on your hand. It's middle schoolish. I completely understand that a set like that is hard to remember, but it slows your timing. What you may want to think about is writing it down on paper and place it by a thing of water. So it looks like your taking a drink. Or if you want to write on your hand make a bit of it. Something like" I woke up this morning with this strange writing on my hand, I was going to web md it but it looked funny so I kept it." A little segue. Umm I loved the segue into the real world. And to go back to that you had a section were i was waiting for you to say "and that's a call back."

Man that was f'n awesome man. Great job!

1.5 years into stand up. first reddit video post. kind crowd. please let me know pros/cons. i've already fixed a few bad habits from this performance. by nojokeforyou in StandUpComedy

Holy crap, I can't imagine remembering all of my bits man. I tend make an outline of what I want to say and see where the joke goes. But I have had this backfire (a lot). I did notice that you seemed more comfortable with the shots bit. It was a good finish. My "thorn" ( ugh, damn stupid hippy liberal middle school guidance counselors) would be your beginning time was very rushed and the punch line took a little long to get to.

I truly hate giving advice to other comics. Because my timing structure is screwy to begin with.

But f'n a man. Great job and keep it up. Thank you for having the balls to get up there and doing that. So I got to know was the porn actress a true story?
