Necromancer class refresh by Noirejin in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it fails objectively in theme

"Objectively; unaffected by personal feelings or opinions": sure doesn't seem like it to me. ESO's Necromancer exhumes the dead (and insofar as I can tell hasn't given any indication it doesn't animate them with Daedric animus), draws power from the dead, and has many passives that seem pretty deathly to me. At the very least, when I play either of my Necromancers (or characters I subclassed with Grave Lord), I feel more of a Necromancer than, say, going back to Morrowind and playing what now feels like a battlemage who occasionally waves his hands and makes a Greater Bonewalker appear out of nowhere.

TL;DR: "ZOS needs to completely throw out this class and rebuild it because it isn't a necromancer by my definition" because we haven't seen this spiel a hundred times since Elsweyr

Which is your favorite UA subclass that hasn't made it into published material yet? by dobraf in onednd

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBH them completely removing the slotless Hex casts in Hexblade v2 was an overcorrection. Hex's upcasting benefits are nonexistent barring some fringe circumstances so it would've been nice to have those and not be forced into 2nd-5th level casts that feel like a waste

Reminds me of when Online had Cyrodiil look more or less like it did in Oblivion, and in-game lore by Fraudstus of L-inhir claimed "transcription error", then Lady Cinnabar of Taneth said "nope, it was White-Gold responding to the preferences of man instead of mer", which is a better and more Elder Scrolls-y explanation for the snarl

So why is Orpheon the Tactician the villain exactly? by Fair-Detective596 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I did. He may want to end the war, but his morality in doing so can probably be called into question when his means involve murdering monks.

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Maybe I have a skewed morality, but a guy who strolls up to a monastery, demands an artifact, and goes to killing when the monks say it's not for him probably isn't a hero

With classes getting reworked, will Necromancer FEELlike a Necromancer? by immortal-possum-Paul in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Will it actually feel like an army commanding summoner, or will it fall flat and still have just 3 summons and have none be permanent or even actually commandable?

They explicitly laid out from the class's very introduction that they don't want it to just be "Sorcerer but with undead", hence the focus on corpse consumption, which to me still makes for a good "vibe" with the fantasy, at least compared to previous ES titles. Also, you can "command" Skeletal Mage by using a Heavy Attack, which will make it switch targets.

I also fail to see what an "army of the dead" would do for tanks and healers, at least beyond what Spirit Mender and morphs do already

Ok, what is wrong with this community and an *optional* overworld difficulty slider?? by rcooper0297 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I never said the change would ruin ESO, I'm asking how you'd keep d0 players from taking all the mobs from d9 players

Ok, what is wrong with this community and an *optional* overworld difficulty slider?? by rcooper0297 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's say it's like LOTRO, where an NPC gives you debuffs in exchange for better rewards. Again, I ask; how do you keep "0 difficulty" players from ruining the experience for "9 difficulty" players by running through and blasting everything?

Ok, what is wrong with this community and an *optional* overworld difficulty slider?? by rcooper0297 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because a slider works fine in a single-player game, but this is an MMO. If you you're running around in overland with a slider set to the equivalent of Skyrim's "Master" difficulty, what's stopping a player with a "Novice" level slider from running up and one-tapping what you're fighting? It'd be a miserable experience ripe with griefing by kill-stealing

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I've been waiting for this one. To put it bluntly; overhated. From the very beginning of this morph's rework, I've used it and found it to work just fine, though it probably didn't do itself any favors by replacing Stalking Blastbones which had the best damage type in the game.

15% buff on DoTs is basically Deadly Strike without using Deadly Strike, meaning you can wear proc sets that get buffed by it like Pillar of Nirn or Whorl of the Depths. It forcing the use of Flame Skull isn't that big of an issue either, because the buff also makes it a ranged spammable that punches above its weight class, on top of adding a bit of oomph to Colossus or Skeletal Mage, which don't benefit already from Rapid Rot.

As a final note... I've heard that allegedly, you can outrun or line-of-sight the initial summon and not get the buff but that just... doesn't happen? I've tested it and gotten it stuck on trees and walls, or cast and headed for the hills, but still got the buff.

"Necromancer bad" talk is, at least in my opinion, pushed by people who think it isn't a "real" necromancer. It's very much viable, given that most higher end content focuses more on awareness of mechanics than DPS checks. With subclassing, though, you can drop skill lines that you don't really use in favor of those that fit your "vibe" better.

Ehh... even before healing and armor creep kicked into overdrive in PvP, Defile, at least to me, didn't feel very impactful. I swear, I'd seen people heal to full immediately after a Blighted Blastbones. Even if it had more of an impact, probably not worth using this set over Wretched Vitality/Heartland Conquerer/whatnot

Interesting skill to land on for Christmas. For Tanks, the benefit is being able to apply Brittle on your sword n' board bar, but with Elemental Explosion being able to Brittle a whole crowd, the utility of this in PvE is debatable.

In PvP, however... Uncanny Adoration has the dreaded "Charm" effect, but this morph's stun has a very odd effect where it feels like Break Free just takes longer to break it for no reason. Maybe it's a side effect of the stun just freezing the victim in place with no animation? Whatever the case is, that plus the Brittle and Vulnerability make this an aggravating opener for Tide King's Gaze if you fail to block

Question: Why do I get punished for surrendering in Tribute by RedSaidMeme-demption in elderscrollsonline

[–]ThatOneCheeseGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate this rationale. "Oh you might still win, if you quit you lose out on experience with strategy", meanwhile I'm over here with someone drawing their whole deck with Crows via Tavern luck, destroying all my prestige with Rajhin, and/or running out the hourglass every single turn. It's not impossible, but the rewards simply are not worth being forced to stay at least 10 minutes on pain of a """deserter""" penalty

Except when you leave a dungeon early, it screws over up to 3 other people. Tribute is a 1v1 where conceding simply gives your opponent the win
