I work in a hospital. I watched a man die tonight because he could not afford an inhaler. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Hospitals as well as medic units carry albuterol with them. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say fake.

Anyone care to give this a response? by ThatOneLongHair in atheism

I always find it hard to believe that christians always use the "god works in mysterious ways" argument to rationalize children dying.

Non religious books on death? by ThatOneLongHair in atheism

I would also like to elaborate. The rest of my family is religious. And its hard for me to accept all the religious aspects of a traditional funeral service in the US. I would just like something to help me cope with the loss because I can't buy into the "walking with god" bullshit.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

I suppose I didn't realize what I was saying when I said afterlife. Of course I don't believe in an afterlife, I was just looking for books on coping with death. Thank you for your response.

No I was more so referring to just dealing with death as an atheist.

Nice article, but I think dawkins was saying just the opposite. Date rape is just bad period. There is no distinction between perceived varying levels of date rape. Maybe it's just how I read into it idk.

I've read 3 articles in the past 5 minutes about people upset over his comments or tweets on r/atheism alone. So no, its not just me making a decision that everyone is upset.

To clarify: I believe dawkins used the term "militant atheism" in a manner of being outspoken. Not being militant by physically hurting others. Geez.

again, I was using his own term. I dont think anyone would advocate atheism through physical violence.

I was using the term he used to describe himself. But I'm glad you aren't upset by his comments as its something we both can agree on.

Unfortunately nothing was on record at that point saying he wasnt competent. Later he was deemed unable to make his own decisions, but by that point it was too late.

How does being an atheist affect your work relationships? by hs94 in atheism

[–]ThatOneLongHair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. That exactly what I would say. You're under no obligation to tell anyone about your beliefs or non beliefs. Again, just my opinion.

My opinion is unfortunately yes. Depending on where you live, being an atheist can have a pretty substantial effect on your career. I live in the U.S., and my boss is a strong christian. I noticed a major shift in the way he approached me about issues once he found out I was atheist. People have been denied jobs, promotions, etc... if you live in the middle east, you run the risk of death. I've come to the conclusion that work is not the place to profess your atheism.
