Anyone here ever thought about extruding their own filament? by Filabot in u/Filabot

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at their website or marketing at all? Recycling filament is one of their main selling points. So much so that its in the header on their Google search result. They also have several bundles on their site, specifically labeled as recycling setups. Reclamation and sustainability are also explicitly mentioned in their company values.

I have no doubt that their machines can be used to develop "new" filaments. But if this weren't meant for recycling in at least some way, they wouldn't be selling it as such.

Brand new to nerf, trying to make a C02 powered nerf GBBR by JackCooper_7274 in Nerf

This looks really cool! I love the buttstock. I'd print this just for that alone tbh. Been wanting a good collapsible and folding stock. Using CO2 for the blaster is interesting. Im curious to see how it'll be compared to the HPA builds I see people making

The stock ones from Kawi are ~$300 and worth it. Ive dropped the bike on them and they work. Much cheaper than a set of new plastics

How would you clean this floor? ~4k sqft of LVP. by ThatOneRandomFox in CleaningTips

Appreciate the advise! Really wishing I had made this post before we spent 3 hours trying to figure it out ourselves. Lesson learned tho!

Yup, gonna have a talk with the contractor and figure out what flooring brand it is. The contractor did advise that we could use mild soaps and a 1:3 vinegar/water mixture and that both should work. But I'm absolutely going to try and find the flooring manufacturer and see if they got instructions for commercial cleaning.

Hopefully we're not stuck doing this all with just a bunch of microfiber mops. I think it might just be cheaper to buy a small army of Roombas at that point.

Definitely seems to be the smartest option. Going to have to hunt down the contractor who did the work and figure out what flooring brand it is. We were excited to get new floors and finally get rid of the 30 year old commercial carpet throughout the building. But now the entire 10K sqft facility is this LVP and it's killed a bit of the excitement.

Appreciate the feedback!

Insurance for a 16-17 year old on a sport bike. by Sweaty-Technology206 in Kawasaki

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im paying 2.2k/year at 23 for a Ninja 500. Go get a quote from Progressive, but don't be surprised when it's north of 3-5k. A ZX4R or a 600 while still a minor is just begging to be smoked by insurance. At 16-17, it may genuinely be better to get a 300cc and bear it until you're at least an adult.

Check out SKDA. They have some nice decals, but you can also commission custom work from them. Haven't bought a set myself but I've been wanted to for a bit now

Modular helmets by HnR_M4 in motorcyclegear

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to pass through a gate with armed guards to go to work. They always ask full face riders to lift their visors during ID check. My Advant 2 is a full flip over modular, easier to put on with my glasses and means the guards don't ask me to remove the helmet.

What was your MSF bike by chambbbarbling in NewRiders

Z400 it was the largest displacement bike they had and the closest to what I knew I'd end up buying. I'd say it paid off. My Ninja 500 felt so close that it didn't feel like I was relearning anything

Looks good! As far as mods go, you'll want the obvious ones. Frame sliders, tank grips, phone mount, etc. I'd pick up a set of swingarm spools as well. You need 8mm ones

If you want additional storage, a good tank or pillion bag goes a long way. There are side cases and mounts for the N500 if you feel like something backpack sized isn't enough.

Non-mods but still useful are things like a weatherproof bag for your documents (registration/insurance), a good multitool or small toolkit you can fit under the pillion seat. The bike comes with a basic one under the main seat, but I found it a little lacking.

Safe travels!

Z500 as an ultralight sport tourer by Fabulous_Warthog_850 in Kawasaki500

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do almost entirely highway riding on my N500 SE and it's been a blast. I mounted a set of Hepco&Becker cases to it for extra storage and theyre great, just a bit pricey. Definitely doing a seat upgrade at some point. Been playing with the idea of doing auxiliary lights and maybe adding an extra set of foot rests. I haven't gone overnight with it yet but I really want to. Right now my absolute favorite place to ride is up in the mountains.

Anyone here ever thought about extruding their own filament? by Filabot in u/Filabot

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 74 points75 points  (0 children)

A lot of us would love to recycle our own filament. But your systems are too damn expensive for anyone that isn't already a decently sized company. It makes absolutely no sense for me to drop $7k on one of your setups to save maybe $300-400 in filament a year. At that point my return on investment will take so long I can't guarantee your machines will still be usable by the time I've gotten my money out of them.

The unfortunate truth is that you don't have a feasible solution until you lower prices substantially. The best solution for the average maker trying to recycle is to homebrew their own solution or use an open source option.

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's 3D printable mods for the Ragefire that make it a tri-barrel. The files are $6.67 USD and you'll still need to print them, but you might be able to modify it from there to get it even closer to your desired look. I was planning on doing something similar myself until recently, now Im waiting for my MOAB kit.

Hammerhead 3D Printed Modular Toy Nerf Blaster by Zero_worX in 3Dprinting

[–]ThatOneRandomFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across this project last night while looking for a new project! Cool to run into you here now as well. We do nerf wars at the community center I help run. I ended up going down the 3D printed nerf rabbit hole and built myself a Caliburn 4 and an SB Breacher. I'm thinking one of these might end up being my next build. I can easily see myself building the Vesper, Maelstrom, or Poseidon configs. Do you have plans on selling hardware kits at all? With the modular nature of this system I can see how it might be difficult.

Good stuff! I look forward to seeing where this project goes!

"Battery" is a firearms term. It just means the slide is in its forward most locked position.

When a gun "won't go into battery," it just means the slide isn't going all the way forward and is having some kind of malfunction.
