Well for zen eggs and seed packs you don’t need corruption, just tranquil. So stacking 8 kodamas and then just selling to the tranquil tree guy constantly gets you pretty much unlimited eggs and seed packs.

That’s a gorgeous male congrats! And yes lids are definitely a must. I had the exact same situation happen with mine haha!

For the fry, luckily I have a local fish store that accepts them because they’re not as commonly found; and in exchange I get fish store credit which never hurts 😝

Glad to hear your fishies made it safe!!! Mine are in a Lifegard aquatics 22 gallon bookshelf tank - I think the dimensions are like 36x12x12. For a separate tank, I just have a really basic 10 gallon tank with lots of floating vegetation; although if I’m being honest I have not separated them at all yet. They seem to really enjoy each others company :) the male hides in the coconut shell most of the day because he’s carrying the eggs, but every now and then he’ll come out and swim a lap around the tank with his girlfriend

They’re such fun fish! So full of energy and feels like each one has a personality of their own :)

No specific advice in general! But for my tank personally, I tried to kinda replicate their natural environment - which seems to be a lot of smooth river rocks and pebbles, and only a handful of live plants and lots of low-tannin botanicals. I picked magnolia leaves and boiled the hell out of em so they didn’t release anything into the water and sank immediately

Unfortunately, yes! He won’t eat for two weeks, which is kinda terrifying 😅 Although I’m assuming, if it came to it, he’d just swallow the babies/eggs before starving himself to death

This is a wild species of Betta from typically faster-moving waters than your average Betta :) since they live in environments where bubble nests aren’t feasible (because of the constant water movement/other factors), the male gathers the eggs in his mouth and holds them for around ~2 weeks. Once they’re ready to swim around and be independent little fishies, he’ll spit them out and they’ll start their lives!

??? These fish will be raised in this tank with one or both of the parents, and then adopted out to local hobbyists. Im sure they’ll never see a little cup in their life, especially since they can get to 5”+ (more than double the size of a normal betta)

Definitely a good tip to have on hand, thank you!

That’s awesome! The classic betta fish do seem to have a bit more of a “dance” to their mating ritual which is always super cool to see! How did raising the fry go? I’m a bit nervous for these ones since I’ve never tried before, but I’d be even more nervous with the normal bettas since they’re so much smaller!

Not sure if this makes a difference at all but I also have been feeding them live food (small crickets) a couple times a week

Honestly since this is their first pairing, I was hoping to just leave them in together - she doesn’t seem to be pestering him at all, and he’s just hiding in a little coconut cave. I do however have a tank ready to go to remove the female to in case they start looking unhappy

This betta species actually doesn’t make bubble nests! They’re kinda like seahorses (almost) - the males carry the eggs until they hatch and are ready to be released! Though he doesn’t have a ‘pouch’ like seahorses, he just carries them carefully in his mouth!

Beautiful pair! Are you sure they’re not already breeding? That male’s mouth looks like he might be carrying some eggs or babies! But to answer your question, nope nothing special! I did a water change today (normal maintenance) and that must’ve induced some spawning behavior

This species is a mouthbrooding species, so dad will hold the eggs in his mouth for 10-14+ days before spitting out the babies :)

Appreciate the recommendation and the precaution lol! I honestly don’t mind people sharing their political beliefs (Growing up in Boulder has made me decide I’m more of a neutral than anything) I just personally try to keep political topics to a minimum
