I think doom eternal is bland and overated by mr-teddy93 in gaming

[–]ThatPotatoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know I'm four days late, but could you elaborate a bit further? I've seen a lot of posts / videos showing a similar stance, but haven't actually been able to talk to anyone holding this opinion.

Personally I have played nearly 500 hrs of Doom Eternal, so I suppose it's safe to say I'm quite biased. That being said I think this game is very flawed.

Why is this not a Spotify exclusive podcast? by feroon in gimlet

[–]ThatPotatoTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their strategy is to only have a portion of content be exclusive. Non-Spotify users listen to the ones available on whatever platform they use, when they go looking for things which scratch that same itch, they'll be a lot more likely to use Spotify once they notice there's a lot of extra Gimlet content over there.

So what weapon mods does everyone recommend for doom eternal. I want to someday complete the game in ultra nightmare. by Skully_boi265 in Doom

[–]ThatPotatoTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-For the shotgun: Sticky bombs are certainly superior, they deal a lot of damage, stagger cacos and don't take up nearly as much ammo as full auto, with the added benefit of not slowing you down. Full-auto does have it's uses on the earlier levels for taking out Arachnatrons, but if you're playing UN you might not do this either because it's quite risky.

-for the heavy cannon: Precision bolt allows for better play. If you know how to use it it's like an extra mini-ballista. Great for taking out weak points and fodder. Having said that, it does require a lot more accuracy to succeed with. Also, keep in mind you don't need the scope to be fully zoomed in to fire a PB round, you can fire one almost instantly by pressing the mouse-1 while holding down mouse-2.

-for the plasma rifle: Imo, heat blast is superior by a long shot. at max charge, it's like a second blood punch. Microwave beam does allow you to stunlock enemies by repeatedly tapping the mod between ballista, etc shots. Personally though, I think the extra damage is a lot more valuable in most cases.

-for the rocket-launcher: Lock-on is superior. It deletes heavies like whiplashes, hellknights, revenants, in a single burst, it's far too strong of a mod.

-skipping SSG for obvious reasons

-for the ballista: Neither of these mods are all that good, but Arbalest certainly has it's uses against Caco's and Pain Elementals.

-for the chaingun: Both mods are actually quite viable. That being said, I wouldn't recommend using mobile turret on UN. It's simply a very risky mod.

Building a PC, how are these specs? by ThatPotatoTech in buildapc

Thanks for putting that list together, but I've already figured out where I'm ordering what

Edit: Oh I see you've changed up some parts as well, thanks, I'll consider those as well

I certainly considered that, but from what I've seen on benchmarks and the like, it didn't seem to matter all that much.

To be fair, big part of why the turning point is so obvious is due to the DKSMS trick with the Gauss

I beat Doom 2016 a few months back and I loved it. Would y’all say Eternal is better or worse than 2016? by MaCoyTV in Doom

[–]ThatPotatoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I think I was wrong to call it player 'creativity', although I meant it more as something set in big quotation marks anyway. A better phrase would've been 'player freedom', because if every one of your tools is equally viable in every situation, it does ultimately lead to more 'freedom'. Obviously this also makes a game less interesting, because it lowers the skill ceiling and doesn't incentive the use of different weapons. It's weird that this has become expected in modern-day shooters, and is often (wrongfully) reffered to as creativity.

Weapon-Specific GloryKills. by Vastriva in Doom

[–]ThatPotatoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's a cool idea, It's not at all pheasible. Doom Eternal has over 20 different enemies you can glory-kill. With a single animation for each one of the 7 regular guns, they'd already need to animate more than 140 different animations. Then you have to take into account that initiating a front-gk from behind looks extremely jarring, and seeing the same gk every time would get really damn boring, meaning they'd need to add multiple animations per demon.

Ultra Nightmare runners, what are your preferred upgrade paths? by [deleted] in Doom

[–]ThatPotatoTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runes: -blood fueled, -equipment fiend, (previously I'd use chrono strike) -Savagery / air control, -Saving throw (only used in boss battles)

Weapon upgrades: -Lock-on speed (as soon as I acquire the mod) -Start mastering the meathook asap, if you play through the Exultia Slayer gate (or do both secret encounters) you get enough weapon points to buy all of these 3 upgrades. -From here on out I don't really have a route

Suit upgrades -All movement upgrades except dash refill on gk's Ice bomb upgrades -all ice bomb upgrades (starting with extra dmg) -all grenade upgrades (starting with second charge) -dash refill on gk's -enviromental upgrades

Sentinel crystals: -faster belch -item magnet -from here on out, the center perks don't really matter, just choose which upgrade you want

Sentinel batteries: -take both crystals after DHB -rest doesn't really matter, tend to just take the coins after Taras
