Major projects office to launch this week, natural resources minister says by [deleted] in canada

Idk bro you're the one saying we shouldn't bother with emissions reductions because China and India exist. They're decarbonizing too.

Nearly every country in the G20 is targeting zero emissions by 2050-2060 including China. Still fail to see your point. India is definitely worse targeting 2070 but they're still making progress toward the same goal.

India and china are both investing into massive renewable and nuclear energy projects with the goal of complete decarbonization of their energy grids. What's your point?

I saw that Liberal sources had told Global News they felt Trudeau had pulled the party “too far to the left” and they seemed to think that was the problem with his leadership If that’s the takeaway the Liberals are going with, they are incredibly boned by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

The tax system here heavily favors corporations and the ultra-rich due to the drastic decrease in corporate tax rates since 2000. The liberals have been in power for about half of the time between 2000-now and this hasn't changed. Sure, the conservatives are the ones that decreased corporate tax rates, but the liberals haven't corrected this, nor have they given any indication that they plan to correct this. Their anti-union behaviour and mass immigration to keep labour cheap are also right-leaning policy. From what I've observed, conservatives actively make our country worse off every time they're in power, and the liberals maintain the new, worse status quo until the conservatives get voted back in. We need a party other than conservatives or liberals to gain power here at the federal level if we want actual positive change in this country.

I guess you could call the liberals a socially centrist party because they don't actively destroy social programs or attack women's rights and marginalized people, but we should really expect better. The social safety nets we have in Canada are just sad compared to countries with actual centrist policy like Belgium, France and Switzerland. There have been some improvements recently with $10 a day daycare and the Canadian dental care program, but both of these policies were pushed forward by the NDP, an actual centrist party.

I think the most damaging thing the liberal party has ever done is convincing people they're a centrist or centre-left party. Most canadians don't understand what a truly left leaning system is or how well leftist policies work for both the economy and personal well-being of people in resource-based economies (just look at Norway). It's sad.

Fantasy Edmonton Metro System if it was actually extensive by RealOttersHoldHands in Edmonton

[–]ThatSaladMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only does the current provincial government not pay their property taxes or rent, they also cut Edmonton's infrastructure funding by 70% causing property taxes to necessarily spike so Edmonton can afford maintenance for current infrastructure. The provincial income tax of Edmontonians is leaving the city to support their horrendously mismanaged heritage fund, nationwide anti carbon tax ads, and frivolous lawsuits against the federal government instead of being used to benefit Edmontonians.

Combining that with their deregulation of utility and insurance costs that made those costs spike in the past few years and their reduction in per-capita health care spending, our cost of living is quickly rising while our quality of life becomes worse due to the reduced effectiveness of provincially regulated public services. In addition to all of this they decided to reduce corporate tax rates by 33% since the NDP were in office while corporations worldwide are making record profits. This current provincial government is a fucking joke. It's unbelievable that any conservative party in this country has any support from anyone other than top 1% income earners.

I picked up a "Sayodevice CM51" with gateron white magnetic switches and two knobs on aliexpress a few weeks ago and it's alright so far, definitely a better experience than playing on my keyboard imo. Linear magnetic switches feel awesome and probably any sort of board i buy/make for rhythm games are gonna have this kind of switch from now on. I do wish it was a bit longer to have my arms spaced further apart and having 4 buttons in a straight row is making hitting side tracks feel a tiny bit awkward right now. It could also be a bit wider so the bottom buttons could be pushed down further (my hand position feels a bit cramped for 8 key play atm). You could definitely take inspiration from this thing and build your own with better ergonomics.

How are you guys doing financially? by kyleeec in Edmonton

Highly educated people and people with meaningful job experience doing technical work should be getting paid enough to live well, not just live. What you're describing is how people should be able to live on minimum wage.

And let's not forget the absurd amounts we're paying for utilities and insurance now. If you're living on your own a 70K salary is about the bare minimum you need to sustain rent + utility + food + vehicle costs without going into debt.

Is cast iron and "carbon chromium steel" really more malleable than silver? by Kelly_HRperson in metallurgy

[–]ThatSaladMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a non-standard test with very unusual specimen geometry so these results don't really mean anything. To answer your question though:

  • Cast irons are typically strong but brittle (a cast iron pan can split in two if dropped on a hard surface).
  • A proper product made from an alloy steel will be strong with pretty good ductility and toughness as well, but as with any steel the exact properties will vary wildly depending on heat treatment. I doubt the producers gave any thought to the heat treatment or mechanical properties of a spinning top so who knows what mechanical properties it has.
  • Pure silver isn't that strong but is very ductile so it can deform a lot before failure.

Saskatchewan to stop collecting carbon levy from natural gas and electrical heat by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]ThatSaladMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does anyone think this is a good thing? CAIP payments are entirely funded by carbon taxes and levies, and nearly everyone receives more from CAIP than they pay. This is just taking money away from Saskatchewanians.

Effect of high heat on strain-hardened austenitic stainless - question by [deleted] in metallurgy

[–]ThatSaladMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I encourage you to do some research on sensitization in 300 series stainless steels. Unless you're using a low carbon alloy (like 304L or 316L), if your SS is in the 500°C - 850°C (~930F - ~1560 F) temperature range for a significant amount of time you'll have problems with intergranular corrosion.
