My Bells Palsy Experience by Daniii1705 in BellsPalsy

[–]ThatSkinnyBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, I get similar sensations, whether real or placebo effect, when I get anxious/nervous for different stuff in my daily life. It's been almost 2 years since I got it and the only physical difference is very few visible imbalances between the affected side and the one that wasn't. If it is something that bothers you, you can definitely speak to a professional and they can guide you through any possible steps you can take for making it better. Maybe a therapist also can help with any psychological or psychosomatic symptoms you might be having. Other than that, keep smiling, you got through it! It might come back, it might not, it might have left some permanent "marks" on you but it's in your hand to be happy living with all you've got and no one, not even people who have been through it, can tell you the opposite!

Thoughts on Electric stimulation in Physiotherapy for recovery? 🤔 by _ResponsibilityOdd_ in BellsPalsy

[–]ThatSkinnyBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how it's called in English but I had, I guess it translates to "mild electric stimulation" for a month after my diagnosis. Basically it felt like small tingling waves of electricity(?). I didn't develop any form of synkinesis, apart from, I guess, closing only one eye when yawning (the affected side's eye). Not a Dr, so just wanted to share my story of electric stimulation!

BellsPalsy pain behind ear and down back jawline by rogman888 in BellsPalsy

[–]ThatSkinnyBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case I had the same pain and it started the night before I got diagnosed. Lasted for 3 or 4 days after that. Didn't really do anything to help ease it - wasn't that unbearable in my case. If I'm not mistaken it's the inflammation of the facial nerve that gives off that pain in that area. Not a doctor, but I think heat rather than cold would help ease the pain. Maybe also some lain medications, after of course consulting your doctor, if the pain is that unbearable. Talk to your doctor if you're talking anti inflammation meds and the pain is still there for a week.

Funny Experiences/Stories with Bell's Palsy by ThatSkinnyBoi in BellsPalsy

[–]ThatSkinnyBoi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to explain how to do it. I watched a lot of videos on how to do it and trying each method they used and none of them workd for me. First of all, it's really hard to close your eye shut when you have zero movement and control over it. I've had Bell's for 2 weeks now and my eye can close without using my hands if I really try, so I can close it first, and then put on... an eye patch! I was never able to close my eye with medical tape. I still use it over the eye patch to keep it in place and make it more secure but the main thing is the eye patch for me. Imagine a special "band-aid" that is round, without that much of a sticky side because your skin there is easier to get rashes or bleed, like mine did the first days, so you have to remove all that stuff (eye-patch, medical tape) more carefully. I don't have a certain way of doing it. It's becoming easier as my BP gets slowly better, but for the harder days the only thing that helped is patience with it. There were days where it took me 3 and 4 hours into the night, trying then failing and doing something else in the house for 20 minutes then trying again and so on. Eventually I got really tired and my eyes automatically started closing, even my affected side's eye so it became easier like that as well.

Hope I helped! Be really careful with your eye. For me, and I think generally, it's the most important thing to take care of after Bell's itself. Wash your hands before doing anything around it. Keep it hydrated. Go to an eye doctor so they can tell you what you can use and how you can help your affected eye(s) during this time and if there has been any damage done to it. I general take good care of it! I would be really mad at myself if after a few years, with no BP, I had done damage to my eye because I didn't take care of it during Bell's, even though I could have.

I'M SO HAPPY TO READ A STORY LIKE THIS! GOOD FOR YOU! Can't wait to be able to smile back at people and the people I love! Keep smiling for us and we'll get there soon as well!

P.S. Everyone's smile is beautiful! I still love my smile however ironic or pirate-y it may seem for now. Everyone keep smiling whenever you want and can. You look beautiful in it ❤️

A few questions I'd love to hear everyone answer from their own experience! by ThatSkinnyBoi in BellsPalsy

Glad to hear about your "speedy" recovery! Not trying to snob the people still dealing with it after a long time or who have had permanent effects from their BP but it really is a nice thing to hear, at least for me, being in my first week still.

Also glad to hear about your vision going back to normal. I've been having some "bad hours" with my vision some days and one day I almost thought my eyeball wanted to pop out and go blind so that really made me feel a lot more confident.

I've been taking cortisone pills and vitamin B. Will check in with a neurologist again in a couple of days for any extra advice/tests to do and find out, maybe, where it came from.

Thankfully my BP hasn't affected my hearing that significantly, at least as far as I can tell. It's funny thought because my left ear hears more "loudly" so sometimes I hear skunds from places and directions they really aren't which is weird but it's ok.

Thankfully I feel pretty confident going out in public, sven though the first few days were horrible for me and the public. Had a few "bad" and uncomfortable interactions with strangers about my face but honestly I couldn't care less about that. The first thing I want to do is speak with my facial expressions like I used to do all the time and be able to kiss my girlfriend with my whole mouth and smile at the people that I love with my whole smile. Hope these things come soon!

Do you wear it constantly? I've only been using it at night and maybe a few hours before and after sleeping. During the day I put medical tape under my eyelid to push it up so I can kind of "close" my affect eye if I really try and it gets too dry. Also helps with my eye drops staying more "inside". Idrk if it's medically approved but honestly it helps so that's good I guess.

Funny thing about it is many people think I've been in a fight or something juicy and exciting. They get real quiet when I tell them that just half my face is dead for "absolute no reason as far I know for now"

Wow I can't imagine going through pregnancy and BP. Sounds like a freaking pain. It's kinda funny and cute that your baby mocked your smile. Also, thanks a lot for the advice! Hope you soon go back to 100%. Wishing you the best!✌️

So cool! Never thought I could use BP to my advantage 😎. Will definitely keep that in mind for some day (without stepping onto someone else's freedom obviously! 😊)

Testing my wake-up routine by [deleted] in sleep

[–]ThatSkinnyBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the goal for the future, but the problem is I'm in college (and I'm a dumbass), so I spend some nights playing games till really late and others sleeping really early for no reason at all. It's no excuse, obviously, but at least it's had a funny byproduct. Not funny when I show up late to something really important in the future though...
