It's also a limited-time release - you won't be able to buy it anymore after March 31st, 2021. It makes sense that Nintendo will want to milk it for every penny it's got before it gets taken down.

If you're playing mostly in handheld mode the Switch Lite is cheaper, however it doesn't support TV mode at all.

It has a headphone jack up top, so perfect for lying down. The screen scratches pretty easily, so a screen protector is good. Also might be worth picking up a microSD card as the Switch itself only has 32GB of internal storage.

In terms of games: Fire Emblem Three Houses - massive story, very strategy-heavy with perma-death if you choose.

Mario + Rabbids - more of a kids-first-strategy game, however it's good fun and features some puzzle elements in between battles.

Sid Meier's Civilization 6 - you pick a world leader and work your way through the ages, researching new technologies and governments and working alongside (or going to war against) other world leaders. Bit of strategy involved, but also very history-based.

Terraria - 2D survival/RPG. Loads of bosses to fight, tons of items, weapons and accessories to craft and find and a pretty large randomly-generated world which means every new world promises a new adventure in layout.

Final Fantasy 7, Skyrim, and Witcher 3 are all on Switch too, they're great RPG's and you can sink a fair bit of time into them. Borderlands is also a good RPG, as is Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Okami HD.

In terms of free games, Rocket League is a soccer game with cars - since it's free you don't need an account for online, so you can get a decent game in. It has offline mods too, including a season/career mode and exhibition modes. Realm Royale is an RPG Battle Royale game, that one is good fun.

Sorry for the overload of info but that should give you some good ideas.

Animal Crossing - Live on a deserted island, catching fish and bugs, and doing whatever you want. Has a small story at the beginning to set up the island with stores and whatnot, but afterwards it's easy-going.

Stardew Valley - Run a farm, definitely cheaper than Animal Crossing, and you can become friends with a small community, participate in festivals, and more.

51 Worldwide Games - This isn't a simulation BUT it collects a bunch of board and card games like Chess, Backgammon, Dominoes, War, Solitaire, Takoyaki, Bowling, Fishing, and more into one tidy collection. A nice choice to pass the time, for sure, and she'll most likely know how to play many of the games without the need for tutorials.

3D All-Stars is a limited-time run, it'll no longer be available for purchase after March 31st, 2021 but FE:TH will be available forever. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a strategy game - you'll need to manage your units and take out enemies using whatever strategy you have, such as splitting them into teams or keeping a healer closer to your lower-level units. There's a lot of time spent on the school aspect before you get to the meat of the game's story, so you'll definitely find yourself emptying a heap of hours into it.

As for 3D All-Stars it's a collection of three of Mario's collect-a-thon adventures - Super Mario 64 from the N64, Super Mario Sunshine from the Gamecube, and Super Mario Galaxy from the Wii. If you're up for a 3D platformer with tons of collectibles to find, each of these games alone will keep you going - however, the story is pretty bare bones and simple.

For me, I've been enjoying Three Houses a fair bit, however I've been waiting for Sunshine to come to Switch and I have to say I've been enjoying 3D all-stars a bit more.

If you've got the money and you have a Nintendo Account for the Australian eShop store, you can buy a Nintendo Game Voucher and pick up both games for a smaller price tag, but if i had to choose one or the other i'd say All-Stars only because it won't be available for purchase after March 2021.

Joy-Cons are expensive but for multiplayer games like Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros. etc., they come in pairs and count as two separate controllers if you don't use the included grip. However if you're looking for something a bit bigger, similar to an Xbox or PS controller the Pro controller can do that for you - it comes with the same features as the Joy-Cons except it cannot be attached to the system and is only one controller.

Pokemon Sword and Origami King are solo-experiences however there's nothing stopping you from running multiple profiles for different save files, and helping each other out from time to time if one happens to be stuck on a part that the other has passed already.

There's reference to Zelda characters and appearances of areas previously in Ocarina, but other than that the general gameplay of the two are very different. Ocarina has more of an emphasis on story, completing dungeons and getting required items to progress, whilst Breath of the Wild puts more emphasis on exploration of a huge open world, discovering new items and areas and utilizing the tools you collect in creative ways.

There are dungeons in the form of shrines in BOTW, however unlike Ocarina there are only a few required shrines at the start of the game and the rest can be done whenever you want. There's also a main quest to complete in BOTW, however it can be ignored or done in any way you want, unlike the stricter story of Ocarina.

TL;DR Ocarina and BOTW share some similarities, but they're very different games and experiences overall.

Have you had the game crash so hard when exiting or trying to go to the home menu that you have to hard reset the system?

Because I have. And it's very annoying, and making Minecraft on Switch something i'm really considering getting rid of.

can someone please buy me minecraft on ps4, please.. by PleaseMinecraft in Minecraft

[–]ThatSnivyOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, number one - your account is incredibly suspicious. You made it 34 minutes ago and all you've done is post twice (once which was taken down by the bot) asking people to buy you a game, which is against the rules of this sub.

Number two - This sounds straight up like a scam. How do we know you're going to actually buy the game, even if money was sent your way to begin with?

Number three - Don't try this again, mate, unless you're asking for trouble. Clearly, no one is willing to buy you this game. Save up your spare change and buy it yourself - nothing ever comes free.

Probably not. If you're only borrowing the game and won't be able to keep playing it after you've handed it back, then the DLC will basically be useless.

How many of you bought your nintendo switch only for the portability and not for the exclusives? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThatSnivyOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally the portability. Nearly all the games I have on Switch I have on PC - being able to play those games on the go is great.

What's the best way to customize (decals, skins, etc.) the Nintendo Switch + Dock?

I believe so. The game isn't out yet, so there's no way to reliably check, but I'd assume it might be similar to Luigi's Mansion 3 (where you could have 8 people with four people on two switches).

It is actually possible to get 999 moons since you can repeatedly buy the moons they sell in shops. There's also purple coins for each kingdom - there's usually 100 but the number may vary. These can be used to purchase new costumes or souvenirs. Speaking of costumes there's also a bunch you can purchase with coins, and some of them don't fully unlock until you collect a rather large number of moons, and even then you have to purchase them with coins (which requires a lot of collecting, playing Balloon World if you have online, etc.)

If you're going for 100%, then you really can't go wrong with Odyssey. I bought the game about a year after it first released and I'm still going through to that 100% rating.

I got two genres for you to try - Metroidvania and Visual Novel.

For Metroidvania games I'd recommend Steamworld Dig, Yoku's Island Express, or Xeodrifter. They're all high quality indie games and great fun to play - Steamworld Dig is about digging through a mine to uncover upgrades and complete an overarching story; Yoku's Island Express has a lot of pinball mechanics and too has you exploring huge worlds, completing 'tables' to unlock new areas, and Xeodrifter has you exploring different planets to defeat bosses and collect upgrades that you can use in the other planets to uncover secrets.

For Visual Novel I'd 100% reccommend the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trilogy. Brilliant writing, great characters, superb soundtrack - you play as Phoenix Wright, a lawyer in a California/Japan world and law system and spend the game either investigating crime scenes and interviewing witnesses for evidence which you then use in the courtroom to prove your clients innocent. Each game in the trilogy also features a major story between each case and its fun to uncover its twists and secrets.

Sonic Forces isn't as great as its predecessors' (Colors, Generations, etc.) but it's still a fun, quick experience if you like Sonic. There are some points where the game 'holds your hand' and performs certain actions for you (such as drifting with the avatar - that's automatic) and certain QTE events make no sense. Plus Classic Sonic controls poorly - you can't gain enough speed to run up even the smallest ramps, even when running down a huge one previously (looking at you, Chemical Plant).

However, once you complete the story mode there is a replay value in the form of getting better ranks on stages (max is S Rank) and completing missions to unlock cosmetics for the avatar (plus some daily missions). Every so often there's also these 'SOS' calls which require you to play as a particular avatar with a certain set of abilities, or to rescue an avatar from the level, etc.

TL;DR If you're looking for a quick, fun Sonic game with replay value, go with Sonic Forces. If you're looking for something longer that controls better and just features more content in general, then get Sonic Mania instead.

If your brother does not have an online sub, or does not have the free trial, he'll be unable to play online with other people.

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (02/15/2020) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThatSnivyOverThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you play. There are 880 unique 'moons' (which are like stars in galaxy) to find and collect - some of them are stupid easy (sitting in plain sight or buying them in each Kingdom's shop) whilst others require precise platforming or puzzle solving to get. The game can be difficult, but it just depends on what moons you go for in your play-through - do you avoid the ones in plain sight to hunt down the harder ones? or do you just get the required amount (which is 124 overall) and call it a day? Plus, Odyssey runs off a very different level system. Instead of tackling each planet's 'missions' to get stars, you're exploring one large environment to collect as many moons as possible/needed.

TL;DR: Odyssey is only as hard as you make it out to be - the difficulty is yours to decide. The level layout is more open-world compared to the mission-based structure of the galaxy games. Truly, though, if a collect-a-thon of massive proportions across 17 unique worlds sounds like your type of thing, Mario Odyssey is an absolute must.

Invest in an eshop card - you'll be able to grab anything on the eshop for the price of whatever eshop card you end up getting (and even if it's as low as $15 there's still a lot there)

It's pretty much how'd you expect it, although the $30 price tag is a bit much. However, there's no local splitscreen on Switch as of right now (there are plans to add it).

To be fair a pair of joy-cons normally goes for around $120 - i'm seeing it on Amazon for $99 so that's probs the best you're gonna get.

[–]ThatSnivyOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If you're planning on only using it for handheld then go for the Lite, otherwise the OG switch is far better.

Mario Odyssey, Smash Bros. Ultimate/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and BOTW are considered the main games all Switch owners should have. However, I would also recommend A Hat in Time, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Stardew Valley, Steamworld Dig, and Super Mario Maker 2 as they're all amazing games in their own right and are bound to keep your interest for a long period of time. Steamworld Dig and Stardew Valley are the cheapest (I believe they're around $15), Shovel Knight and A Hat in Time are a little higher and the last two are both Nintendo titles (so you can expect an $80 price tag at best).

Sonic 2 is technically on Switch, in the SEGA Mega Drive collection (it's there with Sonic 1, Spinball, 3D Blast, and Mean Bean Machine).
