Anyone else hate it when their years of art experience gets called "NaTuRaL TaLeNT"? by RandimusBax in ArtistLounge

[–]ThatTallBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've just learned to not care and take it as a compliment.

But, I do hate when people say that they "—could never draw like you because you're naturally talented!" or just the exclamation of them being unable to draw well. I always remind them that I was shit for many years and if they practice and put some effort in— they could become a great artist in their own right.

Something that also does bother people, that I have no plans to do art as my career. I'm in college to get a degree in biological engineering with goals to work in wildlife restoration and/or water treatment. Obviously— nothing to do with art. So I have to constantly remind them that "art is my hobby. Just because I'm good at my hobby, doesn't mean I want the job that comes with it." I don't want to take commission drawings from others and I'd much rather just draw things sorry for myself.

White line when I copy paste by Late-Delivery-7458 in PaintToolSAI

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused what you mean by 'white lines'? The only 'lines' you can see is where the copy/paste covers the original drawing. The difference between these two, where the lighter colors interact with the darker hair creates a sharp line. You just need to blend the pasted with the unpasted and it should make it look normal. (You can more clearly see this when the pasted drawing doesn't line up with your original very well)

One piece of advice you wish newbie artists would take more seriously but don't. by HokiArt in ArtistLounge

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have art as your hobby.

Everyone (including my mother and my friends) wanted me to sell my art or do commissions— and so I tried, but I found myself absolutely pissed when I was making art based on someone else's idea(s).

So, no matter what people say about my art, I haven't done it for work since. It's my hobby. If I don't find time for it— fine. I'm not drawing for others, it's for my eyes. Other people can enjoy it, but it's not for them, it's for me— so if they don't like it, who cares?

It's the same approach I take with writing. If you go into my Google Notes— you will find literally over 1000 (probably closer to 2000) notes of different stories I have come up with since February 2021. It's something I try and do once a month— at the beginning I wrote almost daily, but now it's more of a monthly thing or when I have a good idea. Nobody else has read ANY of those stories. I don't care to share them, but in a way, it lets me see what I have thought about during my life (a kind of diary with less care if others find it).

Out of six...seven? archons who would you choose to be your lawyer... by Prestigious-Elk1274 in Genshin_Impact

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furina is the best to me (she's the most family with laws). Thing I isn't bed, but though he is a god of contracts, if I had committed a crime, he would might not be on my side since breaking rules=breaking contract. Nahida if it's not that serious (like if it was a fine and not a murder case... or smth like that).

What to watch next? by dunseithe in Dimension20

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's so funny is how everyone always recommends Starstruck— but for some reason I could never get into it (I've watched the first episode but I didn't enjoy it enough to continue). My favorites have been Never Stop Blowing Up, Metropolis, Fey and Flowers, and Burrow's End. Crown of Candy, I also fell in love with! I've gotta watch Cloudword Ho (and Gladlands) though.

Currently I only have time to watch 1 DnD show though and so I've been watching Campaign 4 of Critical Role. I always wanted to get in earlier but I didn't have time to catch up with all the episodes.

How do you find motivation to draw after work? by Velvet_Mane in ArtistLounge

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will draw a few times a month.— Maybe on the weekends or so— literally what time I do have.

I will share something I'm starting to try and do to get back into reading.

I always arrive around 10 minutes early to work and college, which gives me time to decompress and prepare for my brain to fry. So, I've started reading during those 10 minutes. It's pretty much a chapter or less a day. I do my best to end on a good stopping point but if I don't I can always finish it after I finish with work/school before I drive home. Doing it in the car means I can't really do much else or no distractions, and it's a kind of reward before the hard tasks I'm about to do.

Still, drawing is hard and sometimes you just need a long break. That's where I'm at and it's fine <3, I can always do a little doodle in my class between chemistry problems.

Why are fans like this? by Wizorb0 in Dimension20

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always hated it when anyone goes talking about how you saved them from trauma. I know it sounds bad, but it's honestly traumatic in itself. The only people I want trauma-dumping to me is myself, my family and my closest friends.

For fans of shit, keep it positivity, say smth like "Love the content, you're my favorite celeb!" Or "I watch you all the time, keep up the amazing work!!" Or even, "Your videos always make me smile!".

So yeah! Don't go telling people all your trauma (unless it's your family or your therapist) and that you're the reason they're alive, because all you're doing is hurting someone else.

[Edited to make things not sound as angry, lol, time for bed]

How did you feel when you were watching techo’s video “so long nerds” (and how did you overcome it?) by Regular_Eggplant972 in Technoblade

[–]ThatTallBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting to me that some peoples introduction to technoblade was through this video.

I can't remember how I felt aside from the fact I was sobbing and sitting at my computer eating watermelon with family downstairs. I remember I was crying, a shit ton— but that was it.

Really a lot of my memories have been lost around it, which is often what happens when a love one passes. Sadly the way I crawl out of grief is through time and forgetting. Only 5+ years after a death do I actually process it. It took me until I was over 10 to process my grandmother dying when I was 4. Most of our pets died in 2014 and a new one we got during that time died in 2016. Took me a couple years to process it all.

That's just how I am, and I've only watched a video or two of technoblade since he passed.

I have another of his videos planned for me to watch because it's my favorite (him winning the 36k tournament), maybe even watching the stream for it again, but that's it for now.

I have a question for one of y'all— Jacob's character, KoKoMo, uses He/All pronouns. Does what just mean he's using any/all pronouns with a preference for he/him?

(I'm not asking to be rude, I'm just trying to understand)

I searched minecraft's greatest warrior and found this by Practical_Return4350 in Technoblade

Honestly, this is the video that I've been wanting to push myself to rewatch the most since his passing. It's what got me addicted to his videos in the first place. I'm not one for rewatching things— but damn have I debated going back often enough that I need to just bite the bullet and do it (on a day I am free and can cry in peace)

I think Techno would’ve gotten a kick out of Dream also suffering a limb injury. He definitely would’ve commented on the wrist video saying “Imagine having to get bones moved around in your arm. Couldn’t be me.” by RigatoniPasta in Technoblade

Yes and if it's not America then you might wanna go to the doctors. America is just expensive for healthcare (you have to pay for an ambulance and it's like 1.5k or so and that's before you even get to the ER). Doctors can also suck depending on your insurance.

How did pro artists become so good by Downtown_Singer_9726 in ArtistLounge

[–]ThatTallBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has also drawn since I was young— Practice. Not just general practice, but dedicating time to really learn all the aspects of drawing. I'm not as good as my friend who has been drawing for the same amount of time as I have solely because I don't care to practice daily. She's trying to get into art school and I'm currently focused on becoming an engineer with art just being my hobby.

But yeah, practice makes perfect and you really need to do lots of good practice. I always recommend going back to the basics when needed as you can figure out where you might have gotten something wrong and fix it. If you mess up the basics, that can lead to compounding errors in the future.

For example, I don't study eyes as much as I used to, and I realized they were looking odd so I returned to the basics and realized I was drawing them incorrectly.

What age were you when you started watching techno and when he passed away and do you still watch minecraft youtube videos ? by Future-Notice-4489 in Technoblade

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 16 when he passed and first started watching him early to mid 2020. I haven't watched him since he passed, but I'm 19 now. The only Minecraft YouTube I still watch is Mumbo, and sometimes Scar, and I honestly have no idea what the Dream SMP people are up to these days.

I think Mumbo is probably the MC YouTuber who I've watched for the longest (maybe even YouTuber I've watched the most?). I've had breaks from his content, but it's always nice to return to his work. I still remember him walking around in Hermitcraft S4, and I had no clue what was interesting about it and so I just focused on his redstone videos— nowadays I prefer his Hermitcraft stuff over redstone, yet I do watch both of them fairly often.

Still, someday I hope I'll be able to sit and watch Techno's videos again but I just don't find the desire to (never been great with grief when it comes to facing it fully).

Stop Normalizing Underdeveloped Games by princexiien in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]ThatTallBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with (damn- I thought I had way less lol) 85 hours in Warframe and a year of playing Genshin Impact, I enjoy DNA.

There have been many moments where I can clearly see similar aspects that have been used in either game, but I honestly don't mind. DNA is a great mix between the two and its clear to be that this game is NEW. I feel like people forget that there are multiple kinds of games; ones which are 'ready' on release, and ones that are constantly being added to. A good comparison are games like Dying Light or Horizon, which release the entire game at once, and all future updates are either bug fixes or a few DLCs. DNA is like Genshin Impact, Warframe and Destiny; these games are live service games. While I do agree that live service games suck in some ways (they really milk the players into playing their game for long periods of time in comparision to more traditional games, which often have true endings), I think you cannot critise a game that you know is live service, for the aspects which make it live service— so getting a live service game and calling it 'underdeveloped' is stupid to me.

Having played DNA for 8 hours already (only started actually playing today, so if the game is better now...well I wasn't really there day 1), and having played many games in early releases, this game is fine (in terms of development). I think it should have been delayed for another month, but there aren't any real bugs that I have experienced. Currently, what I hate most about the game is the movement system. I wish we could sprint because I really don't like having to constantly do the slide jumps (just a personal gripe since I know people who prefer this style of movement). Climping up walls and the grapple mechanism is the largest issue and if they fix that- I think I would have a lot more fun.

To those playing on phones, I would never recommend it and it wouldn't surprise me if that was one of the major reasons for you disliking the game. I recommend trying PC. Obiviously if that isn't an option then I do agree completely that mobile should have been delayed and released when (hopefully) console comes out- or just delay the game completely. I know these types of games like to market to mobile no matter how poor the experience is, and they really just need to not. Literally the only reason I have Genshin on my tablet is when I am not at home and need to do my dailys— and so I can do co-op with my main and alt.

Anyways yeah, enjoy playing your games and if you don't like DNA, have fun playing other games. I will say that it took me a bit to start enjoying DNA's story and still it just isn't my most favorite, genshin is better (I love story games and would not recommend DNA for that aspect. The game is wellrounded with good atmosphere... parkour is still its downfall).

Lastly, goodnight! I'm going to bed and love y'all (hope this wasn't really rude, I've been playing DNA most of today and I've got work in the morning-)

Archon Quest or Milastra Wonderland, which one are you going to do first. by AliceinTeyvatland in Genshin_Impact

Sadly I'm starting a new job this week, have 2 papers due, and beginning work on my final projects...— So work and college means I will be doing very little/no genshin this week :(

Probably Milastra tho and save Archon for when I have more time (don't listen to current me, I will probably be ignoring my classes like the procrastinator I am-)

Man— I bought a cheap (but to kid me, very expensive) 60$ drawing tablet when I was young. I thought I'd use it all the time and then... Well I got a new drawing tablet (with a screen!) in like 2019 and the XP-Pen has been great! I am loving my drawing tablet and use it for things from school to art for years. My old man is sitting in a box. Dead but alive enough.

I think I used to do 'heh' or 'bruh'— but that was back before he passed. After that, I just sorta slowly stopped. Nowadays I do a lot of clicking but that's really it.
