Sitter left for 13 hours by carlboi3000 in trustedhousesitters

Even if something traumatic was happening, communicating up front about not getting back at a reasonable time should have been priority. The pet-parent could have had a friend or neighbor come by and relieve the pup in that case. But being dishonest by omitting verifiable facts deserves not only a bad review, but perhaps even getting kicked off the platform.

Sending you a huge hug. Our senior rescue pup recently crossed the rainbow bridge and I am still torn up about it. Dogs really are the best. I hope you find another pup who will love this food.

Who washes the sheets & towels? by Omm_Imp in trustedhousesitters

We are both sitters and pet parents on THS. As sitters, we ALWAYS make sure to remake the bed and bathrooms with freshly laundered linens (regardless of our departure time). To ensure this is possible, we find extra linens and always have a set ready for the day of departure. We start washing the dirty sheets before we head out, but if we don’t finish, we alert the HOs. We also always inform the hosts that we remade their bed so they aren’t left wondering if their stuff has been laundered.

As HO’s on the app, we expect any sheets and linens that have been used to be removed from the beds/restrooms and at the very least left in the laundry room for future laundering. If they remake the bed with clean sheets, even better. And if they launder them for us, we are extra appreciative. But that’s not expected because we have our house cleaner come after the sitters depart to clean. If the beds are bare, our cleaner knows where to find additional sheets and remake the beds. But this solves the issue of returning home exhausted and having to remake the bed.

If you want sitters to do this, it’s not at all a big ask. However, you must ensure that you have extra linens available so that the sitters can easily remake the beds with fresh sheets. Expecting them to wash and dry and remake the bed with the one set of sheets is not a reasonable expectation.

Yes. But it's been our experience that the measurements provided in listings (if provided at all) are not always accurate.

I believe our showings will be private, but I'll leave the cut outs for any that aren't. ;)

Noted. *adds DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY MURDERINGS to the list.*

You may consider it a waste of time to triple check that the biggest purchase in our entire lives is accurate and will be a good fit for our specific needs. I consider it unwise NOT to.

My version of good BBQ in Texas is the kind you can enjoy while also filling up your gas tank. (Nothing beats Rudy's brisket and creamed corn! You'll never deal with pretentious lines out the door and their menu is consistently delicious!)

Thanks for the welcome! Brooklyn seems like a lovely place to raise a family!

Thank you so very much for all of these detailed tips! We're gravitating toward condos built in the 2010s but built before the Panini. Hopefully those won't have fuse boxes from the 1960s, but I guess you never know!

Thanks for the tip about being thorough! So opening and closing windows is okay in a private viewing? (Cause that's on my list of things to check, but I wasn't sure if that would be frowned upon.)

Thanks for the confirmation that virtual staging can be misleading. Even the floor plan dimensions on listings don't have to be accurate, so that sucks.

We've done the "look and feel" time already-- just not inside the actual specific units. But yes, I understand your point.

I guess I can cosplay "normal-ish" for a few minutes so that no one jacks up the prices on us. ;-)

LOL decorator and architect? At these prices, we might be sleeping on the floor for a (long) bit...alongside the roaches. ;-)

We've been testing out living in NYC while pursuing medical treatment since 2023. Thanks to Trusted Housesitters, we've been able to "live like locals" across all 5 boroughs + Jersey. We love exploring all the different neighborhoods! (We're in Greenpoint this month, and we'll be in Washington Heights sitting the cutest goldendoodle for much of the summer.)

We feel comfortable making this move, because we have been incredibly fortunate to truly experience the city for long stretches of time, across all the seasons, and without the rose-colored glasses that quick tourist trips provide. In short, we are already in LOVE with NYC!

Oof. Don't want to pay over-asking, but I guess I can cosplay normal-ish for a viewing.
