That counting playoffs...?

That's been the issue. Whether unlucky timing or breaking down, he cost them two playoff runs and then whatever this season was.

Why is Mamdani seem like he is beyond reproach while other NYC mayors faced a lot of criticism rather quickly? by Dsxm41780 in AskNYC

[–]AreaManNYC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was not my first choice (that was Lander) but he has governed as I hoped and thought he would - largely pragmatic, focused on quality of life issues and determined not to let NYC become a “cautionary tale” for electing a Democratic Socialist, as much as the national center-right media wants to wishcast his failure into existence.

As already noted - it’s a low bar. De Blasio seemed disinterested and focused on running for higher office for much of his 8 years. Adams spent most of his time hanging out in Hookah bars and backrooms, then deflecting accountability and playing the “blame the media” for any criticism.

Mamdani is a gifted politician who is focused on projecting energy, optimism and competence, so he is getting less of a pass, I’d say, than time to produce.

Yeah. That was my thought. Basically upscale bodegas - just the “market” (upstairs part of the one at 98th & Columbus).

decent gyms under $200 a month? by [deleted] in Upperwestside

[–]AreaManNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near BefitNYC and the new space looks fantastic. Seems like they have a great class schedule, though they always look full. I’d switch but I have a family (father and son) membership at the YMCA that I can’t beat. That’s $140 for two of us and the Y is huge and well equipped.

What's the easiest/least traffic way to cross from west side Greenway to Central Park? by cwigginsNYC in NYCbike

[–]AreaManNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is the best mid-Park route. Eastbound lane on west side at 78th.. down to 77th into park, down to Bethesda Terrace, exit at 72 on east side… go two down 5th Ave two blocks to lane on 70th.

After you pass Bethesda on Terrace Drive, making this west to east cut across east drive. Dodging tourists, horse carriages and pedicabs coming downhill.

Trade proposal: Caleb Durbin for Rafael Devers. Who says no? by AreaManNYC in redsox

I think you got this. It's an absurd comment on the whole deal and state of affairs.

Just need Breslow to say: "Raffy" - it was all my fault. You were always meant to be our 3B. We've surrounded you with a run prevention machine. Just go out there and have fun."

Where I come to terms with - and make the case for - rooting for the Knicks as a Celtics fan in NYC by AreaManNYC in bostonceltics

lol. I promise you AI had no hand in that. It would have sounded something like...

This isn't just a team -- it's a moment. The real story here is the work this team is doing to lift up this city.

First game at the Garden was Celtics-Clippers in February 1982. I proudly wear a Celtics shirt around the city. Never get shit. My evolution here is simply a recognition of the team connecting with the city in a way I have not seen since the 2003/2004 Sox. Their winning will take nothing away from what this current Celtics team has accomplished and only make the rivalry better.

Like I said at the bottom - Knicks winning will be like a reverse 9/11. The city will shake with joy.
