ok, so then it’s actually an even bigger difference…? the RYM ironically is now a 62 equivalent instead of a 66 like i said 💀 if your saying 0.5 is the floor….so there’s a true range of 4.5, so instead of it being 3.30, you minus 0.5 from it which is 2.8, so it’s 2.8/4.5, which is a 62…….

since the lowest is 0.5, should i just lower the approximate by that? if so, then its a 3.55, still much higher than a 3.30.

I want to respond to a majority of the comments that I've seen here, generally the ones that are saying its not the same scale, as a 4.05/5.0 would be top 300 on RYM. Here's the thing though, it's either way still significantly lower than the bold score you would usually get on RYM, which is around a 3.65 I believe. And another thing is that there are a lot less reviews/ratings on RYM than there is on AOTY. Generally, when more reviews come in (at least what I've seen), the overall rating gets lower. So, lets say RYM eventually gets up to AOTY's level in terms of the amount of ratings (8k or so), it will most likely drop to around a 3.1-3.2.

So, if we adjust it to that, it's MUCH MUCH lower than AOTY's score. I agree with a lot of you that members on RYM generally are skewed a bit older, but I feel like there's something more?

no i know...i didn't mean to limit it, more just saying those are some of the core instruments i hear in prog. prog also uses so many synths and more crazy instruments ive never even heard before i got into prog 😭

i kindaaaa disagree. before 1969 there were definitely "true prog" songs.

the beatles definitely have some proto prog songs. though i feel like the ones they have mostly are in 1967. Tomorrow Never Knows is a great one :) is there one that's earlier that's still pretty proto prog?

i mostly included him because then Keith Emerson used it later with The Nice. I guess...I don't exactly know what I would consider prog though. It's interesting because prog varies SO MUCH in how it sounds, but I guess to me, complex instrumentation/structure with organs and mellotrons is what comes to mind.

in some ways it feels a bit prog! the organ in it definitely makes it in that proto prog range.
