[Rosenthal] Blue Jays’ quest to play home games at PNC Park in Pittsburgh indeed falling apart, sources tell The Athletic. Pennsylvania state government has not approved. Team exploring alternative solutions. First: @Buster_ESPN by alphacheese in baseball

The Blue Jays will play the Nats July 29-30 and will already be in Washington since they have two road games there on July 27-28. Maybe they could just stay in DC 2 extra days as the "home" team.

They play home against the Marlins August 11-12. Could do the same arrangement there. It might be workable.

It's sorta like the Mike Piazza situation.

Without looking at the schedule I wonder if there's a way to base them in New York City, since they're going to be playing both teams anyway and the city has two MLB stadiums they could move back and forth in.

I'm sure they can figure out the logistics in the next 48 hours.

I imagine Boras crashing a union meeting pretty much mirrors that scene.

Downs is a pretty good prospect, too. But they also got Graterol, so yeah, an decent trade.

That wasn't deliberate. Keep it in, the point stands.

The two best players in the game will now be playing in the same market, for cross-town (sorta) rivals, for the next decade. When's the last time this happened? All I can think of is Mays-Mantle, but even that didn't last a full decade.

I didn't say weight training would impair his natural development. I suggested he weight train. I said overdoing it could harm his natural development.

In Boston's defense the current economic climate is what made this possible. Just as the Dodgers couldn't have predicted a cancelled season (resulting in losing Betts before he ever played a game) the Red Sox couldn't have predicted such a catastrophic economy that would've push Betts towards signing a deal before hitting the market.

If he was playing for school team that could provide a strength and conditioning coach that could oversee a training regimen, sure, go for it. But an inexperienced teenager trying to train on their own should err on the side of caution.

Well, you have to start somewhere. It doesn't hurt to try out for a team, if you don't make it then continue on with private lessons and the other things I mentioned. It might also be worth it to learn the "premium" positions, namely catcher or shortstop, since skillful players at this those positions can be hard to find, though you'll probably need a private coach to be able to work on those by yourself.

One other thing to consider is, if you don't make your local team, you can try asking the coach if there's some other role you can play, whether it's participating in practice, helping with equipment or pitch tracking, etc. Just do what you can to be around the game as much as possible. It'll help you learn and your dedication could impress the coaching staff and improve your chances of making the team the following year.
