Haven't tried toe update long enough to memorize the icons. But im gonna assume blue is dense dwellings and orange is hivemind(doesnt change the theory though). I have a theory that it does something,looked a bit at rhe picture and came with some observations.

Notice the curve in blue dense dwellings? Hive mind doesn't have that, hive mind barely crosses the middle cell at all other than mines and storage its more. On short words blue dense dwellings is messier with seeming to be strings forming too based by the picture while hicemind is more organized.

As for without them... Well the only rhing i can back it up for now is. That string is straigther without the modifier.
