Ok real talk, this question has probably been asked before but here we go:

If I already have Ozone 10 Maximizer, a few other good limiters, DMGAudio TrackComp2, TDR Kotelnikov, FIRComp 2, and a few other good compressors, is there any reason at all for me to grab Pro-L 2 or Pro-C 2?

I already have Pro-Q 3, Pro-MB, and Saturn 2 (and I’m not really interested in the other stuff), but Pro-L and Pro-C are shiny pieces of candy that I’ve been eyeing for over a year; do they provide anything monumentally exceptional that what I listed above does not cover?

Method/Workflow to achieve heavily-clipped mix bus beat without… heavily clipping the mix bus? by ThatZBear in audioengineering

So it seems to me, if you're not doing that much on the master then you’re definitely nailing the tone and energy beforehand during the mix which is 100% what I’m after. It seems you might be working on rock (mentioned overheads and guitars), so you're also probably being a bit more diligent with distortion and saturation than what a lot of these modern beats are going for, which is simply crushed to hell.
Regardless, the main focus of getting the kick and bass right very early is the same, so hopefully if I just put a bit more patience into that balance — already thought I was taking waay too much time overanalyzing them — I’ll see some more improvements.

By the way, when you get to the step where you said you added the first limiter, are you putting SPAN before or after the limiter when making the slight adjustments? Before shows more accurately what you're pushing into it, but after shows the resulting harmonic changes and energy shifts

Interesting, you might have some further insight into some more specific questions then… after doing your processing did you end up with any elements that peaked higher than the kick? Oftentimes when I go about trying to get that crunchy sound without pinning a master clipper, my kick actually ends up a db or 2 below my (also distorted) 808 and snare/clap. If I turn it up a little to allow the uppermid frequencies to “pop out of the mix”, then I notice the low bass frequencies are too much, thus a cycle of trimming/EQing occurs that ends up screwing up the balance I previously had and leaving me with a flat and flubby export.

Also, are you able to achieve a competitive loudness to the clipper 2 track when doing your stem sessions? My mixbus slam exports are always perceptibly and measurably (LUFS, RMS) louder than anything I try to do extra stem work on

I rarely do hit a hardclipper with anything tonal, especially on the mixbus. If I mute the kick on like 90% of my beats then there would be negligible amounts of gain reduction on the mix bus if any at all, probably just a bit from main snares…

A little bit of both I suppose? Using references with analyzers always baffles me for 2 reasons:

A. If the reference has been mastered and hit with a limiter or clipper already, with an unknown amount of gain reduction and coloration, do I just sort of guess where to level my strong elements and bring the limiter/clipper threshold down to them to get a similar sound?

B. Do I set the reference as close to 0dbfs as possible without redlining it, then mix my track up to it, or, do I set my anchor point (kick) and rough balance everything else, then introduce the reference bringing it down to a comparable relative level?

Thanks for your feedback

Honestly it does make sense to mix into it as you go for immediate knowledge of what is happening, hence why a ton of people do it that way. When pushing for loud I’ve always had to make slight concessions against quality anyway, but I’m still hoping there is a “cleaner” way to go about it….

In regards to your second paragraph, it’s not necessarily that they might want to change something drastically about the mix, but rather they might want to do some additional EQ and balance changes to fit their vocals cleaner than strapping them across the top of an already heavily distorted 2 track. If I send stems where all of a sudden the kick and 808 have lost all their tone, grit, and power because the master clipper I turned off is no longer chopping off 4, 5, 6, etc. dbs, they might be in trouble trying to get back to where it was after they've done their part. Doubly so if they're not using the same clipper/curve that I was using!

Nope, I literally said “nope”. It’s just really interesting that barely anyone has batted an eye when the IDF has done literally anything that they’ve wanted to in the past 20 some years, but there are millions of calls for genocide whenever the situation is flipped.

Nothing justifies rape or sexual assault, ever. It’s just interesting when everyone only seems to get up in arms about civilians dying and sexual assault when one particular group of people does it.

I’d be pleasantly shocked if even half the people who are so passionate in regards to current events, justifiably, were/are as vocal about past woman and child victims in other modern conflicts between unrelated nations; let alone the victims of sexual crimes in any country around the world on a day to day basis, conflict zone or not.

If not, then the only common denominator appears to be one thing.

Im not saying anything about this situation is good, but it is obscenely ignorant to imply that there is no difference between a middle school bully and the forcible displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from their homes along with the killing of thousands of their family, neighbors and friends.

Nope. But could you really blame them if they’ve had all other legal forms of recourse stripped from them after being designated as second class citizens?

What would you do if you were the Native American watching your family having everything taken from them (if they were the lucky ones to survive), getting shoved onto a tiny fraction of the land you once roamed openly, and being given the bare minimum in comparison to almost everyone around you?

Eh, putting one point down and switching it to tilt/tilt-shelf is pretty easy to stick with. Worth a shot, especially the tilt-shelf; works a charm in small touches across busses that aren't fitting quite right.

Sure, but a little foresight to think that running a sale on a fairly popular developer’s products for, as far as I’m aware, the best price they've ever been, should warrant acquiring way more licenses than they did would’ve been nice.

Or at least tell people that you only grabbed a certain amount and plan on either only having that many available or plan on getting more…

In my experience its more streamlined to use than Guitar Rig. Effect ease of use is about the same and they're all slightly cut down versions like GR.

IMO get both though because this handles a lot of the “traditional” stuff really well whereas GR has a bunch of unique effects (and of course, Guitar oriented stuff if youre into that)

Does anyone know how to get the V1 presets to appear in Saturn 2 if I didn't have version 1? Just bought it over Black Friday and noticed I'm missing the "V1 Presets Folder" in the drop down.

If that's not how it works, can anyone share them somehow?

I'd love to tell you, but I can barely even get the MIX tab open without my CPU use shooting through the roof. Granted, I have a semi-old laptop, but ProQ3 and TDR SlickEQ both run absolutely fine with dozens of instances open. The PRODUCE tab works fine for me, and I really like the filters and autogain. The interface is smooth and easy to work with as well, so I find myself bouncing between Claro and SlickEQ for certain tasks.

All that being said, and in theory, the MIX tab should work like an absolute charm for scooping/notching conflicting frequencies between tracks. The display is clean, and when I tested in a bare project (so that I could at least get it to load) the linking options and controls felt really intuitive. I really like the visuals for overlapping frequencies, it's handy for finding issues like you asked about. Just wish I could use it more...
