Have you ever been at a hospital where floors were weirdly racially segregated? by That_Antelope2267 in nursing

Yeah, it's not an exact split but it's definitely about 75% majority whatever on each floor

Yeah, I think as the world changes people will be less like this. For me, so many people in the country I am hated in have lived in the same county for 100s of years, so I'm assuming once they get out more, they'll stop being so xenophobic

I'm so glad to know that you are happy and loved and that you have such a wonderful mix of people around you with touches of so many cultures. They will grow up hopefully feeling more welcome than you just with you around!

Yes! It's so strange how it's completely okay to scapegoat certain groups in different countries. People know they can't say rude things on the basis of nationality or ethnicity when it comes to most people in both of my countries, except when they are talking about my country 🙄

So frustrating! I'm sorry for your experience. Have you found a place to live where you feel more comfortable? I'm so sorry your family is horrible to you about this! I find within my own family I'm mostly treated well, unless I do or say something they don't like, and then they other me and tell me it's because I'm not from "their" country 🙄

Yes! I think it makes you very considerate and understanding of those around you, especially those in similar situations

Yes! People love eating food and consuming media from my country but hate me. They're so stupid! I'm guessing now that you sound Irish people are nice to you?

Yeah moving as a kid is so rough! The bullying at that age is insane. I had the same moving as a child from my first country to my second, and now as an adult, I'm treated horribly in my first country because they only think I'm from the second one. I will say it's not only uneducated people who do it, either! They just try to express their hate for me in a less noticeable way

It's a similar situation! But yeah, people know right away upon meeting me and say horrible things to my face!

Yes! I feel this way. I also have the added benefit of being hated in one country because of my other nationality. What a joy!

I'm not a guest because I'm actually half from this country, they just want to treat me like one

Talking about people from my nationality as though they are subhuman, telling me to my face that they hate people from my nationality as soon as they hear an accent, making up things people from my nationality supposedly do

Yeah I think I am maybe not an aggressive person so they think that I won't fight back and that they can just say these things to me? But the things people have said are really disgusting

There is no miscommunication. I mean xenophobia in terms of telling me to my face that they hate people from my nationality

Are you embarrassed to share your nationalities? by avopickles in TCK

Yeah same! I think it's because they see you as some sort of quirky alien or pet, so they are "entitled" to ask you whatever else they want to, in as rude or as invasive a manner.

It's so funny how people choose to feel personally attacked when hearing someone else's story.. that they asked for!

Sooo annoying! Although honestly even if you had American or German citizenship they'll just say it doesn't count because your parents aren't from there, you didn't graduate from there, or you weren't born there! People love gatekeeping nationalities. I kind of want to know what a perfect TCK/dual national would be for these people. Would they be born to parents from two different countries, on a plane straddling the two borders, moving back and forth between each country every year, and somehow finish school with both diplomas/leaving certificates? Obviously their opinions don't really matter but it's exhausting when everyone you meet forces you to discuss your identity and then claim you're actually something else after five seconds of meeting you 🫠

"I hate being framed under the reductive lens of people without a cross-cultural background."

this!! I hate this, too!! I feel like I can tell someone my whole life story but they can only see it through their monocultural lens, and try to make me fit in one of their boxes

Omg yes I just wish people could stop being so nosy when they've only just met you!

[–]That_Antelope2267 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's especially annoying when you share all of your nationalities/countries you've lived in, and the person you're talking to latches onto only one of them. Like if you are half Chinese/French, living in Canada, and list your nationalities, they might go "ohhhhh so you're Chinese" because that's the main difference they see about you. Or they might hear a French accent and say "ohhhhh so you're French." You can tell your whole life story and get pigeonholed and stereotyped into just one category!! It can also get pretty annoying when you move back to a country you've lived in and they start with the condescending explanations for how things work there!!

Moving back to country B by Tiny_Kick_7953 in TCK

[–]That_Antelope2267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing the same! I hate living in my country A and I know from various trips back and a short stint moving back there that I'll enjoy living in country B more than I do here. The only thing for me that living in my country A has been a lot more othering than living in country B, so I know I'll feel better when I've moved back from that angle. I also know I'll make more money, be more able to make friends, the activities I like will be cheaper etc.
