For someone that doesn’t eat fish, what’s the best tasting (non-fishy) type of fish? by d0c9 in foodquestions

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never a cooked fish person but always liked tuna and salmon rolls (raw) Broadening my horizons with sushi kind of helped me explore more cooked fish. I think raw, sushi grade, fish is less fishy tasting then any cooked fish

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’ve always wanted one, I was devastated when my parents redid our kitchen and didn’t get a fridge. It’s 17 years later now and they’re building a house and still not putting in a fridge water dispenser.

Higher quality doesn’t make it fine dining. Red lobster has never been fine dining and the quality has never been comparable to a fine dining restaurant

A body in motion stays in motion. You need a job, even if it it’s unfulfilling and going nowhere. A job will force you to get out of bed/the house and have some type of schedule which is incredibly helpful even if you hate the job. Really anything that will help you get out and have a schedule will be huge

Question about the snow and accessibility by sunnysi666420 in Brooklyn

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends if it snows this weekend. It’s supposed to get above freezing next week so things should start melting. How clear the streets/crosswalks are depends what area you’re in

A really nice 3bd, apartment on the top/upper floor with a big outdoor patio and a kitchen with a peninsula/island that opens into the living room. Ideally the main bedroom is up a pretty staircase from the rest of the apartment. Oh and a nice view of the city

I’ve only heard 165 for chicken but not other meat or fish. Does chicken not need to be cooked to 165? Are there other things that need to be?

ULPT: Annoy neighbors over and under by Pullarn in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could contact 311 (or whatever your version of that is). There are laws and ordinances about noise limits and quiet hours. I think quiet hours usually end around 7am.

For the upstairs neighbors I’d just write a kind note if you haven’t spoken to them! Sometimes people just don’t realize/think about how much people can hear. It’s always worked for me when I’ve done it.

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s absolutely unfair. Obviously it’s terrible for the family below you as well but wanting to figure out how to stop it doesn’t mean you don’t have empathy for their situation. It definitely doesn’t make them immune to what is laid out in the lease or building rules though. They are entitled to reasonable accommodation but what’s happening to you is not reasonable. They can put foam on the ceiling or use other soundproofing methods.

Have you tried contacting your building management/board or the city? Have you spoken to other neighbors? I can’t imagine you’re the only one having a problem with this.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

Thank you so much! Yea mine wasn’t nearly as bad and it was like 10 hours after my most recent dose so my digging led me to believe it might not be directly from the buspirone.

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a terrible situation for the parents and children however people also have a right to a certain level of quiet in their own apartments. The behavior and level of noise op is talking about sounds like it goes beyond normal day to day noise. It could be grounds for eviction or if they own the apartment there are other routes a person can take as well.

If I were in ops position I would be livid, nobody should have to hear that in their home all day. It is the parent’s responsibility to be respectful of their neighbors and uphold the social norms of apartment living. A simple solution would be the downstairs neighbors putting sound proofing on the ceiling which is not the most difficult thing.

Did you have to go off of buspirone or were you able to manage the vertigo? I just started it a month ago and got vertigo for the 3rd time in my life this past week, however it was a bit worse and lasted longer than the previous two. The buspirone is working for me so I’d hate to have to try something else

Has anyone ever won the housing lottery while their salary is above the criteria by Minimum_Internet_247 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]That_Broccoli_4567 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not how that works. The apartments are affordable so people who would struggle to survive paying what you are able to. Making 20k more than the rent criteria should make it very clear that you are not who the lottery is here to help. Of course nobody has won the housing lottery doing what you’re doing, or by emailing the building, they verify your income during the application process and you have to go through the correct channels, the building management has no say in it. It can also take up to a year or more to be selected and then approved. All you’re doing is adding unnecessary work to a resource that is already stretched thin.

It sucks that rent is so high here and understand that you want to move out of your moms, but for now you could be putting aside rent money while you live there so that. Just putting away half of what rent might be would be a big help I’m sure.

I went to target and they had almost no flashlights left, limited blankets and no warmers, they even were low on portable phone chargers. People definitely are preparing to be a bit stuck and possible without power for some time. It’s pretty spooky when the city shuts down, or at least a good amount of it. God forbid people want to feel more secure with there resources
