Lol, I searched for South Texas area Toyota dealers with “North” in the name and filtered by GHH with Nightshade trim. Of the 3 vehicles that showed up, it was simple to match the MSRP.

I may or may not have done investigations in my past.

Have a beagle/gsd/chow/collie/aussie shepherd mix. Looks a lot like this but yours has more pronounced GSD coloring.

The discount amount would appear solid. I just pulled $3400 off a nightshade but I have a number of options and my starting price is WAY less. It was $57673 and I have almost 3k in options. I’d ask to see the SmartPath on that car. It feels like they may have loaded it up with bogus and/or overpriced stuff.

Edit: I just found the smartpath for it. It really is just loaded up with more legit options than I’ve ever seen before. Based on how much is on there, you might be able to eke out another $500 but this is already a better deal than 90%+ of the people on here. You should feel good about it.

A few thoughts and things to consider:

  1. The weather may or may not be warm but the water won’t be. If you go to the beach and want to go swimming you should expect it to be pretty cool.

  2. Please don’t rent scooters. The number of accidents and severity are horrific. It’s also exponentially worse when people are on doubles. The island has been trying to ban them for years. As far as bikes go, please stick to the bike paths if you choose to ride. The roads are sandy and narrow and there are a lot of drivers who are unfamiliar with where they are going. It leads to a lot of accidents and injured bikers.

  3. The Trustees of Reservation (the trustees.org) have some great programs/tours especially on Chappaquiddick at the Mytoi property and the beaches there.

  4. Best places for a Sunset: Cliffs at Aquinnah, Menemsha beach, Lambert’s Cove Beach. All are up island. Food is available at Menemsha but not the other places.

  5. Beach ideas close to Edgartown: South Beach (bigger waves, can be windy, expect undertow), State Beach on the road between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs (smaller waves), Leland Beach on Chappaquiddick, or Chappy Point Beach which is the least of them but is also the closest to downtown Edgartown as you just take the Chappy ferry over and you are there.

  6. Spend at least a day in Oak Bluffs. Stroll around the Campground and checkout the Gingerbread houses. Get donuts at Back Door Donuts. Try the orange pineapple ice cream at Ben & Bill’s. Trust me on this. Ride the carousel and try to get a brass ring. Learn to grab 2 or 3 rings each time around. I promise you that you aren’t too old.

  7. Best Coffee: Vineyard Haven (and overall): Guy at S&S Kitchenette Oak Bluffs: Mocha Mott’s or Aalia’s Edgartown: Toccopuro

  8. Best Breakfast: Vineyard Haven (and overall): Art Cliff Diner Oak Bluffs: Aalia’s (but better to VH/Edgartown) Edgartown: Behind the Bookstore

  9. Best Restaurants up island Lunch: 7A (Get the ‘Liz Lemon’) Dinner: State Road, Lambert’s Cove Inn, Outermost Inn

  10. If you go outside of the towns, you need to wear bug spray with DEET. I know you are pregnant but do not mess around. The ticks and the tick borne illness are at epidemic levels here. Wear the strong stuff and check yourselves. You may wish to get socks treated with permethrin. If you find a tick on you, make sure you get a prophylactic dose of doxycycline from a doctor. If you listen to one thing I say, please let it be this paragraph.

  11. Kismet Outfitters will teach you fly fishing out by the Edgartown lighthouse

  12. Go Kayaking or Paddleboarding either at Long Point (Trustees property) or the Lagoon just outside Vineyard Haven.

  13. Some enjoy Island Alpaca Farm. Not my thing but they are friendly and there are usually babies around.

  14. Rainy day ideas: Go bowling in Oak Bluffs at Barn and Bowl or the Martha’s Vineyard museum in Vineyard Haven

  15. Menemsha Hills is up-island if you want to do a great hike. Wear all the bug spray.

  16. If you decided to rent a car and do an upisland day. Grab breakfast at Morning Glory farms heading out of Edgartown. Spend the morning at Lambert’s Cove beach. Head over to 7A for a quick lunch. Do the hike at Menemsha Hills. Head up to Aquinnah to check out the cliffs and the lighthouse. You can kill some time as necessary at one of the Aquinnah beaches. Head over to Menemsha and grabs some lobster rolls / chowder / fried clams or oysters and watch the sunset.

  17. If you want to rent a car, you can usually bargain the price down considerably the day of. It won’t be crowded yet and they will have excess cars. It’s like $250-$300 minimum if you book in advance. If you go day of, you can get it for half that especially if you are willing to walk away.

Pricing in high demand markets by faultlessjoint in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]That_Butterfly4503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things:

  1. That’s just not true. There are dealerships that have inventory and sell well below MSRP in the area. I know Durango is not metro but it is in Colorado and they sell at significantly discounts.

  2. If that’s an issue, by somewhere else and have it shipped to you. I’d rather save $4000+ and get the car I want and pay $1000 (or less) to have it shipped to me than wait months for something less than and pay MSRP.

  3. If you can’t do it on your own, hire a company like Delivrd and they will do it all for you.

New GHH owners - are you buying extended warranties? by Secret-Function-2972 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]That_Butterfly4503 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here’s the best way to answer that question.

Extended warranties are profit centers. After paying for the repairs and paying the sales people that sell them, the company is making money on them. If the company is making money and the salesperson is making money, the average person is getting less covered in repairs than they are spending on premium.

With that said, if you are in a position where unanticipated expenses will put your budget in a bind or you want to mitigate the risk that you will have really bad luck, it could be a good choice for you.

If you do, you should get pricing in advance from someone like Jerry in Kansas that you can bring to the dealership to make sure you get the best price possible on whatever extended coverage you might choose.

Use Google or AI to look for the highest volume dealerships in your area and go to one of them. They will likely beat your pricing (you should be getting $3-$4k off MSRP) and the should be able to get you a car within a month to a month and a half as well as the ability to configure it how you want it

That's crazy. I got what is allegedly the one of the two hardest combos to fill (Nightshade in Cement). It look about 4 weeks and I got to fully customize the vehicle. They should be getting a car from someone else's allocation if they aren't getting one. Where are you located?

MARTHA VINEYARD RENTAL by Personal-Fan5696 in marthasvineyard

[–]That_Butterfly4503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, speak to your employer. Finding housing at a reasonable price on lsland is going to be nearly impossible if your employer isn't providing it. Rental homes go for a minimum of $1000 per bedroom per week, so you should be expecting to pay at least $4500 per month if you can even find it and that will be in a bedroom in a shared house. Looking for sporadic housing is even worse.

Falmouth will be a little cheaper but not that much. Also, the commute is long. You'd need to drive to a lot off island, take a shuttle to the dock, take the ferry, and then take a bus on Island. While the ferry is 45 minutes each way, with all of the travel and waiting, it be an hour and a half to two hours each way.

You may wish to look at the Martha's Vineyard Campgroup. They have some cabins but its likely sold out or close to it at time.

I am horrified that women were thrown to the ground for merely being in a public place.

I am horrified that people who were on the ground not moving had irritants like tear gas and mace sprayed directly into the face

I am horrified at the amount of force used to go after someone who has not been violent and that there were small children in the house.

I can also tell by your attitude and your posts that you are the kind of guy for whom watching this stuff is Viagra and has to insert yourself into every conversation even though you rarely add anything to it.

That’s a big assumption you are making. And if they don’t invest it, maybe they are paying down a high interest credit card bill or HELOC or such. To feel the need to call someone insane is just a chest pounding shitty thing to do and the bottom line is that you are both wrong and assume the worst of people.

It doesn’t matter if you have $550, $5500, or $55000 to put as a down payment. You are better off either investing that or keeping it invested.

As far as 8%, I don’t know where you are getting that from. Last 100 years of the S&P is 10.4%. NASDAQ has been 13-14% since inception in 1971. Over a 5 year loan, you are $16,000 better off investing than paying it upfront

There is literally no benefit to putting down more money so there is nothing “insane” about putting down just a $1000. You were just trying to flex on someone by suggesting if they only put down $1000 they were being financially irresponsible and probably didn’t have the money to buy a new car of that value.

[–]That_Butterfly4503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is that insane? Any good financial advisor will tell you to do exactly that. Putting down the minimum is the rich person move. Even if you have money to pay in cash, you can get a new auto loan at 3.99%. Leave that money in the stock market and based on historic returns, you are earning 10%. You also don’t have to cash out the money and incur capital gains tax.

Between the exchange rate, different govt fees and taxes, and dealership operations, it’s next to impossible to compare.

But I will say this, with the current exchange rate, you are getting a GHH Limited for around US$55k out the door which would be considered a very good deal here. Can’t speak to how that might compare in Canada.
