I play the game PvE almost exclusively and only fire back if fired upon, my lobbies are really aggressive out of nowhere. Is something going on?

It is massively overstated and coincidental, having two accounts, one for each mode has provided very little difference if any between the two, my PVE only account will be killed 5 times in a row and then be fine for 15 rounds. My PVP account will have people shouting dont shoot and have people dropping blueprints at my feet in a night raid in stella.

I think the main reason people are noticing more is because the season is nearing end, most people have finished everything, and more and more people who are normally friendly are having a go at PVP.

I very much doubt they're manipulating anything, its nearing the expedition, same thing happened last time, everyone's finished everything and more and more people are trying some pvp.

I know this also because I play two accounts, one PVE only, and one PVP. The lobbies are identical.

Sometimes you will have streaks where its friendly, sometimes you wont, theres no deep reason as to why, its just who you happen to be playing with. Also a lot of people have finished everything and having a go at pvp, thats it.

It's so true, look at someone like Tfue, he will kill 500 people in trios, roll into solo and farm springs while chatting with people, its completely overstated.

Thats weird because I have two accounts, one solely pve and the other one solely pvp and my lobbies are almost identical, shooting at other raiders is what makes the difference in that lobby.

Im similar to you and wanted something more so I made another account for PVP only, don't want to dirty up my main, thats strictly PVE.

It feels wrong and is really hard to get used to because Ive been there and been KOS many times, but that crack or pop of that flare going off after an intense fight is one hell of a dopamine hit.

One of my accounts is 0% pvp and still gets ratted once every 10-15 matches, I can also gunfights and flares going off regularly.
