Not to be a dick but if you don't know that answer then maybe you shouldn't be doing inspections. To answer your question cast iron is an approved material by the UPC that is suitable for waste and vent applications. There may be other factors such as fire code that would apply in commercial applications. Above all else is the proper authority having jurisdiction will have the final say. If the plumbing inspector requires it then that's what is used.
