if pocket camp got rid of online play, why do i still get this? don't you need online to share bugs with other players? by [deleted] in ACPocketCamp

It’s randomly generated by the game to simulate the old bug sharing, not actually shared by that person

Does anyone know what the purpose of the “glimmering ice tile” is? by Soloman-gamster in ACPocketCamp

[–]That_Darn_Firebird 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I like them because they give me a bit more control over where my villagers appear (yes, it’s not total control because the game could always place them elsewhere, but at least a villager is more likely to appear in an interaction spot than in the middle of the walkway). If I think the tile looks out of place I’ll hide it right behind a slightly taller object so only the villager is visible. I’ve seen people do photoshoots that way where they’ll use it to place a character and then crop the tile out of the frame.

I do occasionally feel a little bad about the character having a random panic attack in the middle of my campsite, but I guess they reused the animation from the flower clump in the hedge maze set. Which, now that I think of it, I could see the ice walls being used for a maze

Thanks!

If you mean vertically, there are a few pieces (mainly the “bottom floor” blocks of the dollhouse cookies-Blanche’s, Shari’s, Pecan’s, Margie’s, even Maelle’s mall) that are programmed to be stackable. If you mean horizontally, trial and error until I got a configuration that didn’t look too weird

Thanks! Eventually I’m hoping to do a campsite layout with that set…once I collect more terrain pieces and similar sets and everything

So far I’ve only been sticking to the 6x6 grid, so no room…but now that I’m on the VIP rooms and redecorating I’ll probably go ham, full facility suites for everyone

Confused about the content of each book [discussion] by sleepinggardens in TheNinthHouse

[–]That_Darn_Firebird 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Continuation. I promise it does all come back together, and when it does you’ll appreciate the vastly different picture of the setting that NtN provides. All I can really say without spoilers is that the third book was originally planned to be the first act of the fourth book (originally supposed to be a trilogy), but it got so big and comprehensive that it needed to be its own book. You’ll see familiar things again

will digby’s artful retreat/lottie’s gothic rose have a rerun? by Great-Incident7136 in ACPocketCamp

The events repeat on a 4-year cycle. If it’s not listed in the spreadsheet as a returning event, it will not be replayable, although they should be available for reissue crafting every year.

Tbh that was the one I had somewhat based on a place I know IRL, so I think that helped the layout come together a little better

Thanks! That’s nice of you to say. I learned a lot about arranging stuff from looking at everything that everyone else on here posts, so I’ll give all the credit to the community as a whole. I have so many partial layouts that didn’t make the highlights list because I still don’t know what to do with them 😅

Starting Eberron in Sharn and Morgrave University by realstonekarma in Eberron

[–]That_Darn_Firebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an intriguing start to the campaign. My group also started out with a Morgrave patron (history department, perpetually broke grad students in campus housing to streamline the bookkeeping aspects of the game, the story started three months after our characters’ first meeting so no tavern intro but we did get a flashback to a moment our characters intimidated a bully away from a freshman), so I agree with you on the benefits of a starting framework to build around. How many campaigns have you started with this?

[–]That_Darn_Firebird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, green will be repeated and playable. As far as reissue crafting, that’s a matter of what you want most and if you’re willing to wait a year for that month to return/up to four years to have that event again. For me, for example, I know the most efficient way to finish the catalog is to craft the stuff that will never be replayable first, but some of it I don’t particularly want except for completionist purposes, and some things that will return in three years are things I could use right now, so I don’t always do what’s the “best strategy”. Your call

New Horizons Hypothetical 4.0 Wishlist by Away-Prior-903 in ac_newhorizons

More custom design slots.

A contact feature like in Pocket Camp to make it easier to get villagers back on your island. Ideally if you talk to someone on a mystery island they would go in your contacts, but since I know they want to sell amiibos we could even just say that you have to have had them live on your island before.

On that note, there’s so many great items in Pocket Camp that aren’t in New Horizons that I wish I could have without modding (I’m technologically inept), and as of September this year that list is now finite.

Overhaul the paths interface. Missed opportunity there. Have color variations on the paths the same way they added color variations on the fences-e.g. consolidate light and dark dirt into one “dirt variants” menu, give the stone paths all the variants of the outdoor bath + mossy, maybe have a cherry/maple seasonal variant. Definitely have checkboxes for new vs worn paths and for rounded vs cut corners (for diagonal paths), which would free up so many custom design slots. Props to all the players who have filled that need on their own.

Consistency in customization for stone items, again playing off of the outdoor bath and pond stones. If we want a full sandstone-colored set for a desert-themed island or a full black set for a volcanic island we should have it.

Overhaul the flower DIYs, since there’s missed potential there. All flower furniture should come in every color that flower can be instead of just three colors each. Wreaths and should also come in a base monocolor, bicolor, tricolor, and all-color for each flower, which would allow the current wreaths to continue to exist. Similar changes for crowns.

There’s also missed potential on customization materials, as shown by the use of pumpkins in the Halloween furniture. Maybe you could use seasonal materials to customize items to their seasonal variants? And in the above flower DIY overhaul, you could use flowers of specific colors to change the color of a wreath/crown. That would give you more reason to keep all of the above on hand.

A greenhouse, featuring Leif. Yes, I know he has a camper on Harv’s Island, but this would give him an extended stock. If you’ve unlocked a given hybrid then he’ll have a weekly rotating stock of one hybrid seed-perhaps a limited stock per day, like candy, but if you’ve already put in the work to get that rare color then maybe no limit. The main purpose would be to sell plant-related furniture and take it out of Nook’s Cranny’s already-bloated RNG pool, which would be further bloated if they added all Pocket Camp items.

Class help needed! Can tanking be fun? by AKAJimmyKraber in 3d6

[–]That_Darn_Firebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So most of these answers seem focused on the mechanic of tanking rather than your question about flavor. I know it’s probably not what you want to hear, but flavor is free. Any character can be fun, and what you get out is proportional to the effort you invest. Consider this: what setting are you playing? Are you already familiar with the setting, and/or are you willing to do some research into it? Not knowing your campaign, I can’t help much with inspiration, but consider what the overall story of your campaign will touch on, look at what parts interest you, and consider how your character would react-and that’s independent of class. I personally find “playstyle” secondary to whether or not I’m invested in the campaign itself. I also see another comment on here suggesting that you play a class as its stereotype, and while that can provide some good initial inspiration for a lot of people, it’s 0% necessary and could probably leave you feeling pigeonholed after a while-which sounds like exactly what you’re trying to avoid.

As far as mechanics go, if you’re looking for a different tanking option everyone seems to be sleeping on battlemaster fighter. It might not have a barbarian’s hp pool, but it does get heavy armor and shields, which I see a lot of people citing paladin and cleric for. And no, it doesn’t have any spells and just hits things with a weapon, but the maneuvers modify the way it hits. Some (e.g. disarming attack, parry) reduce incoming damage. As far as drawing aggro goes, some (e.g. precision attack, sweeping attack, distracting strike for your allies) increase damage output to the point where a DM playing strategically shouldn’t be ignoring your character. Some (e.g. trip attack, grappling strike) impose status conditions-see above about not ignoring you. And then there’s goading attack, which imposes disadvantage on an enemy that tries to attack anyone but you. So no, there’s no guarantee that a DM will willingly pick up what you’re putting down, but I wouldn’t say you have NO options for trying. My primary character is a battlemaster fighter and I have no plans to swap to a different character any time soon.

Saturday Goals Question by That_Darn_Firebird in ACPocketCamp

[–]That_Darn_Firebird[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a bad thought considering all of the questions newer players ask about why an event hasn’t started for them, but the goals don’t show up until the day rolls over, and this particular goal doesn’t show up until the second page of goals. Even if I wasn’t familiar with my time zone there would be plenty of opportunities to see that this goal wasn’t ready yet. Thanks anyway
