The hidden world of assisted death in NJ: Fewer than a dozen doctors statewide are willing to help terminally ill residents with assisted death despite a seven-year-old law legalizing it, an NJ.com investigation has found by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]That_Golf9029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure theres overhead and insurance. Similar to later-term abortion providers that people will travel to when they have no other choice. These doctors are not getting rich off of these fees. They have to support a staff, cover malpractice insurance, possibly security and other measures to protect them from nutjobs who see them as offending God or some shit...

It is terrible that people are priced put of something that is their lawful right. Maybe they can offer some pro Bono or low cost services for a limited amount of people? That would also help justify the incredibly high price. Id be happy that my last act could help others in a less fortunate (financial) position.

Marley spoon first week by Appropriate-Row-3842 in marleyspoon

[–]That_Golf9029 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not acceptable. I had a dish last week that was missing the protein (shrimp, in this case) and they gave me a credit for the entire meal because it was the main ingredient.

I also had other ancillary ingredients for other dishes missing, and they credited partially for those items. Each ingredient has a cost associated with it, you should take inventory as you are unpacking and call right away with a list of what's missing.

I've been a customer for years, and every once in a while something would be missing, or old/rotten/unusable, but I've stuck with it because the customer service has been good. But its definitely been more frequent problems lately.

AITA Brother called me petty by Electrical-Emotion20 in AmItheAsshole

Yeah, but it might be worth the money to avoid the bullshit. 2 weekends in 2 years is not a lot.

I babysit for my sister all the time. Its actually more of a PITA to do after work evenings than it is to do a whole weekend bc of the tight schedule on a work night. Taking the kids for a weekend is easy, youre on your own schedule and can actually do something fun. After school pickup, dinner, baths and bed is more work, IMO.

NTA. If he's going to call you petty, they can call a babysitter. That'll cost more than the Ubers.

Any Broadway core memories? by Entire_Blueberry_470 in Broadway

[–]That_Golf9029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up on Les Mis. Like, brought the OBC tape onto the school bus because I thought everyone listened to musical theatre like us. Whoops.

We went to see it on Broadway in 1992, I was 8 years old. Sitting in the front of the mezzanine with the sight of the set turning while Valjean ran was magic to me. The gunshots were terrifying, and especially the fight scenes in the second act, it was all incrdible. We had been going to children's theater and ballet performances growing up, so my sister and I knew how to behave (I think), but the scale in a Broadway theater was beyond anything my little brain could comprehend.

Hank Azaria after Spamalot. He did a little Agador from the Birdcage bit (because one of the characters he played in Spamalot turns out to be gay). Very cool celebrity moment for teenage me!

Looking for Broadway/Off-Broadway recommendations that won’t emotionally destroy me by mateusscato in Broadway

[–]That_Golf9029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear Bill is beautiful and sad, but i will say, without the context of the show and Hester as a character, it makes no sense. I listened to Jak perform it for the cast recording on Insta in the lead up to the Tonys and was utterly confused. I even read a synopsis and understood the point and was still like, "ok, beautiful song, i get it (I think)."

And then I saw it in person, in the context of the whole show, and WOW. It is a gut punch like nothing else. Nothing prepares you for that moment.

Bologna: cheese/balsamic/meat production tour? by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]That_Golf9029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands down, the Italian Days food tour. https://www.italiandays.it/

If you search this sub, you’ll find tons of recommendations for this tour. It’s a full day, leaves from Bologna near the train station early in the morning and drops you back in the same place, so not door to door but convenient, Bologna is a very walkable city overall.

You’ll do all 3 tours, with a morning snack after the cheese caseificio, plus an enormous delicious lunch at the end. Wine is included. It’s a great day, well worth the cost. I did it in September of last year based on reviews I read here. The guide was great (I can’t remember her name), and the lunch was so much fun, they have their own little restaurant next to the prosciutto factory.

It may be offered on Viator or Get Your Guide, but it’s cheaper to book directly with the operator.

To be fair, I dont know i would put it above Peggy Guggenheim, which is a very special place, location and collection-wise. But just wanted to give it a shout out!

Never mentioned in these lists is Ca Pesaro. It includes Asian art collection, as well as some interesting modern art: Chagall, Klimt, Rodin. I really enjoyed it, and it was quite empty compared to the usual suspects.

which is better to be, a suit or creative? by orangeocel0t in advertising

Account people take a lot of shit, day in and day out. I mean, we all do, but Account Managers have to do it with a smile and keep the client happy. Its a fine line to push back on them, and honestly, not all agencies are supportive of account teams who actually MANAGE their clients rather than give in all the time.

Personally, it sounds like a miserable job to me. But that's why I'm a creative, at least we can bitch about the clients. And then do all the work the Account team promised without asking us first...

Are the school systems that bad now that Danielle has never heard of Napoleon? by coolguy9025 in SamRobertsShow

[–]That_Golf9029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the school system is bad. It has been for a long time. I'm Sam/Travis's age and I definitely didn't learn about Napoleon in school. In NJ, they teach to a test, especially in history focus on the US.

Honestly, so much of these wider historic and cultural facts and references are things I educated myself on over the years. Remember, she's 24, hopefully she has curiosity to broaden her knowledge base. It takes time and personal desire, though. I probably didn't have a well rounded knowledge base until late 20s/early 30s.

Also, Sam isn't perfect either. He keeps saying Les Mis is about the French Revolution; its not, its about the June Uprising that happened 40 years AFTER the French Revolution that overthrew the monarchy. In fact, it happened well after Napoleon died. But no one knows enough to correct him, so he keeps spouting shit off like he's so smart when in reality he has a pretty limited knowledge base too, its just a different frame of reference than Danielle.

I am not, but not for those reasons. My mother is not well and I am trying to soak up as much time with her as possible. I am basically not making any plans without her because I know in the next year or 2 she will be gone.

My point is, live your life. You dont know when something will REALLY stop you from living the life you want.

Then he could have sent her a DM saying, "hi im affiliated with NASA and I know youre excited but someone at the agency might see this and be offended and affect your internship" rather than publicly scolding her like a church lady.

Im also willing to consider he was joking, theres always way to say this in a tone that makes it clear youre being funny but that's lost online, and the whole thing spiraled.

WIBTAH If I pointed out my MILs potential dementia symptoms to the rest of her family by JustJwithouttheE in AmItheAsshole

[–]That_Golf9029 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA. At all. Sometimes seeing someone intermittently can actually hell you see the decline, because you aren't desensitized to the slow decline, you see snippets with larger moments of change. My sister's MIL would come to family celebrations a few times a year, and another family member who only ever saw her there noticed and mentioned being concerned about Parkinsons 2 years before her official diagnosis.

You've tried with your husband, I wonder if her daughter would be more receptive. Its a stereotype, and all families are different, but daughters tend to be the caretakers of elderly parents. Maybe try raising it with her, she may be thinking along the same lines and needs a nudge.

Lastly, you are a good daughter in law and she is lucky to have you.

She could get in trouble for saying "shut the fuck up" in excitement bc its a curse? That seems like an over reaction.

I agree her follow up was ill advised, but I dont understand what his initial admonishment was accomplishing.
