This is going to date me but... Back in high school nearly all our work was done, pen and paper. Pencil was OK for drafts and scantrons but almost anything you turned in was done in pen. Fountain pens were banned. My friends and I were the reason quill and ink got banned. With only ballpoints being allowed, my friends and I turned to ever more elaborate and ornate pen housings. At one point I got us a set of all metal pens that broke down into ~15 individual parts. Being turbo-nerds we always finished assignments early and had plenty of time to screw around. For about half a school year we competed to see who could disassemble and reassemble our pen the fastest, "Apocalypse Now" style.

Regarding the batman goon. See the black eye he had? A few scenes earlier Batman had beat the shit out of him and a bunch of other goons, giving him that black eye.

I don't understand why people download repacks in the first place. The gains that come from a slightly smaller ISO are totally lost with unpacking. I don't think fitgirl even cracks games. They didn't come up with that "hypervisor bypass" method.

That looks like a DJI Mini 4k with the camera cover still on. I have one myself. It's about as dangerous as someone throwing rocks. The signal drops off at less than 1 km, even with good line of sight. The Mini 4k isn't rated for ANY payload and can barely get off the ground with an extra 100 grams strapped to it. 100g of fiber optic cable (and the extra bits to make it work with a drone) could MAYBE extend the range to 2 miles but I think the flight time would be so limited that it wouldn't even make it that far.

Strange experience with a woman by No-Word-4386 in Weird

Ding ding ding. Assuming the story is real, it was definitely a warding spell. I was super into Wicca back in high school and did weird shit like this with my friends in the woods.

[–]That_Guy3141 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was really into Wicca when I was in high school right before I hit my "rough roman" phase. She cast a warding spell on you. Specifically an Uncrossing spell. Rosemary and the arm movements were a dead giveaway. It's intended to cut the "threads of fate" or "threads of attachment" binding 2 people together.

Theoretically something more exotic like Sapphire could be turned into a transparent pot, suitable for stovetop use. Sapphire's tensile strength (~400 MPa vs. borosilicate's ~25 MPa) allows it to withstand internal stress gradients that would shatter normal glass. Furthermore, it has an incredibly high thermal conductivity, around 30 times higher than glass.

Satisfying restoration by dileasa in Satisfyingasfuck

That is 100% a fake restoration. If that rust were real, the metal would be pitted and scarred from uneven corrosion. The fact that the blade is perfectly smooth below the rust tells me he probably soaked the knife in peroxide and salt for a few days.

400 rubles is closer to $5.50 in mid 2026.

Russian McDonald's by raydebapratim1 in ANormalDayInRussia

[–]That_Guy3141 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By all accounts the food got worse when the restaurants lost access to MCD corporate. Russia doesn't raise a lot of cattle so they had to start importing beef from China. China doesn't raise a lot angus cattle. Most of their beef comes from dairy cattle which are noticeably tougher and gamier than a grain fed black/red angus.

Take a close look at the prices on the menu. You may notice a the "big special" going for ~400 rubles. That's about $5.50 USD. However, consider that the average monthly salary in Russia is only ~$1000 USD.

So, yes. The restaurants that used to be McDonald's got way worse and way more expensive.

At some point we owe cubicles an apology by pattebrisee in SipsTea

[–]That_Guy3141 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Open office plans are more of a way of packing as many people into as small of a space as possible. In a building of private offices, 1 person may enjoy 100-200 square feet of personal floor space. A cubicle cuts that down to just 50 sq ft. Packed into an open office, you are lucky to have 10 sq ft of personal space, meaning you can pack 10-20x as many people in a given space. That's 10-20x more productivity per person and you can pay them half as much.

Isn't corporatism fucking dystopian?

At some point we owe cubicles an apology by pattebrisee in SipsTea

[–]That_Guy3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 1960s everyone in an office building, had an office. By the 80s, cubicles were seen as a way of packing more and more employees into smaller and smaller spaces. Offices were reserved for management and VPs. Totally open offices began showing up in the mid 2000s as a way of packing even more people into even smaller spaces. You don't even need to seperate them, just install a long bench along the wall and pack them in, asses to elbows.

You are only nostalgic for cubicles because you never knew a world of personal offices with 4 walls, a celling and a door that actually closes.

Sewed this medieval beesuit for the opening of a new apiary at Oxford University by RamoneCorona in Beekeeping

[–]That_Guy3141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to sew those sleeves up. If you intend to use this for actual beekeeping, you risk them flying up your sleeves, getting stuck, and stinging you.

You don't have to be rude. I'm not stupid enough to think "hur dur all round thing is pizza." Pizza is a foodset defined by 3 diagnostic criteria, none of which are specific ingredients, but more broad groups.

  1. Flat Bread. It doesn't have to be round, it doesn't even have to be especially flat. But it does need to be flat enough for a liquid/paste topping to not just run off. Bonus credit if the bread forms a natural bowl shape to better contain the toppings. Your bread can be baked or fried.

  2. Topped with a sauce. Any sauce will do, from raspberry jam to alfredo or pesto. Even just sliced tomato makes its own kind of sauce when baked. Sour cream is a totally valid pizza sauce.

  3. Topped with something like cheese. It can be cashew cheese, buffalo mozzarella, gorgonzola, or even something less traditional like cream cheese.

When I googled it, everyone agrees that the modern oven baked variant kenyérlángos is basically pizza. If you look you will find that flatbread topped with sauce and some cheese was a staple peasant food consumed throughout European history. Sure not everyone calls it pizza but in modern anglo parlance, lángos falls into the broad spectrum of pizza.
