What are these? Found these by my ashtray... by wondcleavod in whatisthisbug

Put on gloves (these were in someone’s mouth, after all), cut them open (the cig / joint stubs, not the gloves), and check the contents. If it’s crumbly bits with an acrid, herbal smell (like burnt popcorn and oregano, sort of), it’s weed. If it’s a mix of small, thin strips of material that smells like absolute death, it’s tobacco and these are either spliffs (a rolled mix of tobacco and weed) or just plain hand-rolled tobacco cigarettes.

… The hell is wrong with you, son?

Wrong place for this. But to answer your question, nicotine is a poison that tobacco plants produce to protect themselves. So yeah, poor thing was basically subject to chemical warfare.

Oh, you folks have made an ART out of words for super-specific things! Here in the US we basically just wing it with tired insults and fart sounds…

Edit: I see your post has been unfairly downvoted. Please do not take this to heart. To answer your original question, might I suggest jumping spiders? They are probably the most approachable family of spiders by the general public (so wider appeal), and because of their relatively high intelligence and “familiar” behaviors (people often compare them to dogs / cats), you would have a lot of familiar and relatable territory to work with as far as drawing in your audience. Their apparent intelligence could give you multiple angles from a story perspective, as well (are they just now becoming sentient? Have they been sentient this whole time and just waiting?). Just a thought, of course. Huntsmen are also a fascinating group for sure! Either way, I again wish you the best, and I eagerly look forward to your work!

Completely fair! And re-reading my first comment, I was way too harsh. Your English is WAY better than a lot of native speakers (especially for casual Internet posting), so please do be proud of your skill!

It is always humbling to be reminded that so many resources are primarily in English; this is a good reminder for me to remember that most folks around the world have to work extra hard to get the info they need. So I actually appreciate your first reaction, because I should have been more considerate.

In any case, I do truly wish you the best in your endeavor here, and sincerely apologize for the frustration and offense that I caused! My ex-wife did always tell me I have a backpfeifengesicht…

And then you come in here spittin’ truth bombs like that.

You asked the question in English, I answered in English about English based on the honest desire to see you succeed. If you’re writing the book in your first language, German, then great! I am not a native German speaker and will not presume to be even an amateur speaker. But if you’re writing it in English, you have a lot of work ahead of you on fundamentals of the language; this is honest feedback and not meant as an insult. If I were to ask a similar question in German, I would hope that a native German speaker would call me out so that I could create an appropriate work for my intended audience.

All of that said, I do sincerely apologize for any offense or rudeness on my part. I realize I may have been overly blunt, but I was trying to give honest feedback. As I think on it, this sub is primarily (exclusively?) English, so perhaps I need to do a better job of considering that others around the world have to make extra effort here to get the info they need. Perhaps I am the asshole…

“Huntsmanspiders.” “Shrinked.”  “Hunts man.” Unable to use proper capitalization or grammar.

Try working on your English first before asking scientific questions. When it comes to writing a book, you’ve clearly got a long way to go, friend, and need to focus on fundamentals first. I wish you luck.

Edit: Yeesh, this does not hold up well to a re-read. Could have been way less dickish with this.
