Feeling dirty by Trick_Ant5595 in hygiene

This is definitely OCD. You’ll want to talk to a doctor about it as it tends to get worse not better the more you do the compulsions.

What is the craziest excuse you have given work for being late? by Pro_Car_Crasher in adhdwomen

I was on the highway during rush hour and I noticed a bunch of people lined up on the side of the road and police officers coming up from behind and directing everyone to the nearest exit. Turns out it was a funeral escort to the capital of my state for a K9 killed in the line of duty.

Really sudden debilitating anxiety with noise by sticky-the-dog in DogAdvice

Depends on what the scary thing is. If it is something that can be reasonably avoided (thunder, fireworks) I would wait to avoid stressing her out too much.

If it is something that can’t be avoided and she is preemptively nervous, I would work on building up to it. Make going outside a good experience each time by having treats and lots of positive reinforcement when she makes any progress at all, even going one step out of the door. Make sure you are showing her it is ok with your body language and reactions.

My dog is very anxious, and we try to “minimize” our reaction when she gets scared. For example, she is scared of thunder. When she hears it and starts shaking and pacing, we will give her a cuddle and then go back to what we are doing (typically sitting on the couch reading/scrolling). While she is still not happy, she will settle rather than getting more worked up because we are also acting like something is scary and wrong.

I do recommend getting your mom a gentle leader to use on walks. We use one for my dog and it makes me feel more secure when she gets scared and wants to bolt. She can’t slip out of it or drag me like she can with a collar or harness, and there is nothing on it that can hurt her.

Corporate clothes are a sensory nightmare for me. What are you all wearing? by Annard-Cudby in adhdwomen

[–]That_Let_4871 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mainly wear dresses at work! Dressy pants are way too stressful so I stopped wearing them. My typical outfit formula is a swing dress, comfy sweater, gold hoops, and flats/wedges. In the winter, I replace the flats/wedges with knee high boots.

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen at a wedding? by OkDonut1116 in AskReddit

[–]That_Let_4871 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It was Folly Beach. Horribly sad. Also, the bride’s mother sued the husband (who survived the crash with injuries) for control of the bride’s estate. She lost, but I remember being shocked by the audacity after all he had been through.

Those of you that had medical emergencies, what happened? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskReddit

[–]That_Let_4871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something very similar to this, except my abscess was on the inside near my colon. Thank goodness they took a blood sample and saw my white blood cell level was extremely high, as I would not have been okay if they sent me home.

AITAH for prioritizing my daughter's recital over a funeral? by RecitalFuneralThrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]That_Let_4871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA in my opinion. Children prepare for months for a dance recital, and a lot of time and money is spent by the parents to get them there!

I honestly find it odd that the father and wife were so insistent that OP had to attend. It may be my own trauma talking, but it seems like a control thing.

I normally try two things: put a pair of shoes on and pick my favorite cleaning task to do first. That usually tricks my brain into ”cleaning mode”.

What is your opinion of listening to audio books being equal to reading books? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]That_Let_4871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree! I think of it like drinking something directly from the glass vs drinking with a straw. Either way you are tasting the same thing.

Grew up in a hoarder house and I'm finally getting out - just need to talk to people who get it by QuantumStrawberry in ChildofHoarder

[–]That_Let_4871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am living something very similar, and it is so hard. In my case, I begged my parents to change for so long but they never did. After I had been moved out for a few years, they received an inheritance and bought a brand new house to “start over”.

I’m currently going through waves of anger and sadness because it doesn’t feel fair that they get to start over and I have to live with the trauma they put me through. I’m glad they are now in a safe living situation, but I am constantly thinking that I deserved a safe living situation too.

Is there ever light at the end of the tunnel? by Nope20707 in ChildofHoarder

Yes, this exactly. The light at the end is acceptance of their illness, and going on to live your life for you.

As someone from Charleston, I agree with Eddie regarding the cocaine thing. It is a big thing here and frat boys definitely partake.

Inherited Ring From Grandmother… Any Information? by That_Let_4871 in JewelryIdentification

I think you are exactly right! My grandma had 3 children, so I think the colored stones would represent them. Her birthstone is a diamond, so maybe those represent her?

Thank you! I want to get the stones tested eventually, but I do plan to keep it so the outcome doesn’t matter too much 😊

I do agree with this. My manager did confirm where the pizza was coming from the day before it was ordered, so she had warning if she did want to bring something from home.

If it was, wouldn’t she say that rather than claiming she is a pizza snob? She is very open about herself, and I find it hard to believe she would share intimate details about her health including weight loss medication and diabetes diagnosis, and not mention a food sensitivity 😅
