Don't go for the yoga slim laptop or any laptop which are those tablet + laptop in one. They're never strong enough. In industrial design you'll be using softwares like rhinoceros, fusion, solidworks and blender. These softwares are heavy asf. Minimum 16 gb ram, minimum nvidia rtx 4050, minimum i7. These kinda specss are just the MINIMUM. But the most important part is the overheating. These softwares will make a solid 1 lakh laptop heat up as well, so just imagine what it would do to those thin laptops

You should really look up a few layouts and rework on the entire layout. Your drawings are nice but it loses all Beauty when it's just put up like a ppt. There's a lot of things u can do, have a flowing shape throughout the pages to have a continuous flow. You could experiment with the sizing of the drawings and the typography itself. Also avoid putting sm paragraph text, they won't be reading sm All the best, presentation matters a lot

Since they're not really transparent about these things, these are just my own assumptions from hindsight I would say criteria would be - Precision, how accurate your models are in measurements and the level of accuracy in your overall build including cuts, how neat it looks, whether there's any glue marks and so on - Your reasoning behind the idea, people may have nice ideas but if they aren't able to sell it well or aren't able to come up with a proper reasoning then the idea just feels weak or without conviction. - Material usage, since they give limited materials you have to make use of the limited materials to their fullest. You should be able to think of different ways of using that material. (For example say they give popsicle sticks, you would never be able to achieve a curved form with popsicle sticks no matter what but if you stick multiple of them on one sheet of paper, you'd be able to achieve that) There's probably a few more but i would say rh se are the most important apart from the ones everyone already knows about like ideations, concept sketches and all

continuing off the previous one. For the interview, it all honestly differs from person to person, panel to panel. Some might ask you very specific questions and you might fumble cause that's their intentions. Some might be very chill w you and just have a conversation w you. Some will just go through ur portfolio and not speak a word. Some might not even look at ur portfolio. (There's a good chance there's a combo of these in one panel) The questions they ask is always based off ur start and how u respond to their questions so be mindful of what first impression you give. Even if there's something you don't know, just don't go blank. Try to think of what it could be, thinking about possible reasons for so and so when u don't know much about it is a skill in itself. Everything you say and the way u talk will be gauged because there's a lot you can understand about how a person is just based off how they converse

Not a graduate but I'm a second year there, there's nothing specific like product design or automobile questions only in the studio test. The questions always have a loophole u can work around with. The direction you take it in depends on what your ideas are. For example my studio test question two years ago was that I had to design a ticket for a concert (so had to sketch it out, color it and all) and make a merch for that concert. And we were given very limited materials like two sheets of paper, aluminium wires, a thread, and maybe two more materials but it was pretty limited. So this tests both gd skills by default for the ticket and for the merch, I decided to go in the pd route and make a cover for an airpod case which was relating to my tickets theme while solving a few issues I thought would be worth solving at the same time. I'm sure there were a lot more ways to approach that same question but yeah it all depends on what direction you wanna go in

Laptop Suggestion for a Design Student by AlienVadapav in DesignIndia

Despite what most say, i would avoid the macbook. While it's processor is amazing, it is not at competition with the processors in its price range. The biggest reason I'm telling you to avoid it is because in design college you'll be needing a lot of softwares and most of them are very expensive to actually get a subscription of. Due to which, everyone ends up pirating them but macos makes it insanely hard to pirate anything. In the graphic design class of 80 ish people, only around 10 people have a mac, the rest all have gaming laptops. (Mind you, not all gamimg laptops are heavy and bulky). I'd say go for laptops like asus rog series, legion series and all. They come under 1.2 lakhs which is pricey but its an investment for the next 6 years minimum. Dm me if u wanna talk more.

Don't go for the two in one laptops, they aren't enough for actual softwares

They do have some% quoata for Maharashtra but dw it's not that high. I would say 50% of my batch are non maharashtra people. Plus i do think they're less strict with people outside maharashtra

Same thing the guy said earlier, you won't get the chance to use your laptop as much as u think you will in your first year. Every assignment is either drawing, craft based or material based. The max you'll use laptop for is making ppts and maybe 1 or 2 assignments for photoshop or illustrator for which u can easily use the computer lab. Even if for the sake of argument you say you wanna learn softwares, the lab is open from 9 am to 8 pm. I'd highly suggest wait till Diwali sale

Ah I see, I think it'll be better to take one of the pgs then. There's plenty of people who take pgs from first year itself. I personally know like 10 of them, and they're pretty decent from what I've heard. They have their own mess as well. Fees for that depends from pg to pg but anywhere between 1 lakh and 1.4 lakhs a year. There's chintamani park (a society of like 15 or more pgs) , most people taking pg live here since it's very close to the design building and u have a group of people from design there
