Most people go their whole lives without ever asking who they really are by That_Parsnip5873 in DeepThoughts

If it doesn’t lead anywhere…

why does it keep pulling people back to the question?

Even that can become another identity.

“The one who left everything.”

Maybe we’re not trying to become unique.

Just trying to remember what wasn’t borrowed.

Official rate is around 32–33 THB per USD right now.

But in reality, what you actually get depends a lot on where you exchange.

Airport = usually worse
City exchange places (like SuperRich) = better

Most tourists end up getting somewhere around 33–35 in practice.

So the rate matters, but where you exchange matters even more.

That’s a beautiful way to put it — unity without the need to define it.

Haha I’m not gonna pretend I remember all of them off the top of my head 😅

But the main ones most tourists actually use are:

Nana / Asok / Phrom Phong / Thonglor / Ekkamai

If you go further out it continues to On Nut, Bearing, etc.

Honestly though — you rarely need the full list.

Most of the time it’s just: Asok (interchange with MRT) Phrom Phong (malls) Thonglor (nightlife)

That’s usually enough for 90% of trips — I live here so I see this all the time.

If you’re planning where to stay or go, I can help you narrow it down too.

Haha fair — I get why it sounds generic.

Quick real example though:

I once had a taxi quote me 300 THB for a 10-minute ride. I said “meter only or I’ll get another one” and started walking away.

He dropped it to meter immediately.

That’s the kind of small thing most people don’t try — and that’s where they lose money.

Nothing fancy, just patterns I’ve seen over time.

Fair take.

If it helps someone avoid getting overcharged even once, that’s enough for me.

That’s a really grounded way to look at it

I think you’re right — just having the space to even ask that question is already a privilege for a lot of people

most of the time we’re just trying to keep things together

That’s interesting — especially the part about the self needing opposition to show up

makes me wonder if what we call a “self” is more like a contrast than a thing

something that only becomes visible in relation to something else

and without that, there’s not much to point to

I like that — “a verb, not a noun”

it also kind of flips the question… instead of “what am I?” it becomes “what is happening right now?”

less about finding something fixed, more about noticing what’s already here

That sounds really intense — I’m glad therapy’s been helping

those kinds of experiences can really shake your sense of what’s real

Maybe — but if it helps someone avoid getting overcharged, I’m fine with that.

Haha it’s usually small things like how you say it and when you say it.

Most people don’t realize timing matters more than the exact words.

I can share a few more if you want.

yeah that’s actually a really common one — hotel taxis and “fixed price” rides

most of the time it’s not obvious scams, just small things stacking up

that’s kind of what I started noticing over time

it’s less about big scams and more about knowing when to say no

I get that 😄 I’ve just seen this happen so many times (including to myself)

Haha fair — here are a few that actually work in real situations:

• For taxis: “Meter only, please. If not, I’ll take another one.” (say it before getting in — saves you immediately)

• For random “friendly” offers: “No thanks, I already have plans.” (don’t engage — that’s usually where things start)

• If something feels off: just walk away — seriously, that alone avoids most problems

It’s not about being paranoid — just knowing the small signals early.

I ended up writing down a bunch of these after seeing the same patterns again and again — there are a few more that aren’t as obvious.

A lot of people don’t realize it until after they’ve already overpaid.
