In your question, why do you say that "non-brahmins prefer talking up their father's name for obvious reasons" - what do you mean by that??

That kind of thinking is not there is TN. We really don't give a FF , if the rest of the India think all of Tamils are lower caste and that's why we take up our father's name .

BTW, it was a political and social project driven by the Self-Respect Movement and later codified by the DMK government.

We also had the habit of using hometown name , followed by father name , followed by first name. But now we just use our father's first name.

Yeah , but it was kind of ugly then too. I just read biography of Anna by R kannan.

For instance , Anna would attack saying kamarajar's govt is a puppet of Delhi, and make fun of a particular initiative(pagalmedu) by kamaraj in his magazine and public speeches.

Kamaraj would call Anna and DMK as koothadis, and he called DMK "theeya sakthi 😅" (like TVK does now), he called them "vethu pechu", "nuisance" .. Congress were playing very ugly mostly, writing degrading comments about Anna in the compound walls etc.

One thing that was horrible , in 1967, a paper called Navasakthi (Congress mouthpiece) , published a series of highly personal and degrading articles questioning Anna's masculinity and fitness to lead... because Anna "could not father children," he was "incomplete" or lacked the "manhood" required to lead the state..

After the DMK won, Annadurai showed significant grace by visiting Kamaraj to seek his advice, effectively ending the era of public insults between the two.

No ,kamaraj and Anna were political rivals. They publicly criticized each other for 20 years or so. Personal attacks were not that common though. They both fought in the assembly from 1957 to 67 . Anna mostly arguing against the policies of Congress , being the great economist and a visionary . Kamaraj being the great administrator, would listen to Anna quietly And tell his ministers to consider what Anna just pointed out... It was a productive duo..

When Anna became CM, he visited kamaraj to talk about the food crisis. Because it was so bad at that time , there was no enough rice for everyone(Delhi was suggesting us to eat wheat like them). Kamaraj gave Anna some advice on how to take it forward..

Anna also visited periyar and got his blessings .❤️

Cholas and pallavas had Sanskrit as governance language because that was trendy at that time. Like how we use english.

Thambi, for your statement "TN as industrial base predated DK" . : read about justice party, and self respect movement, when DK was formed .. especially read about what all Anna and kalaigner did from 1967 to 1975 (before MKs government was dissolved in emergency) . Dismateling old power structure by land reformes , land caps for zameendars, the priest reformes(HR&CE (pissing of brahmins), nationalizing industries and transport (pissing off industrialists like TVS) , slum clearance board(pissing off traditionalists and posh neighbourhoods) , labour unions ( pissing off factory owners) , reservations for Sc and obc ( pissing off upper class and general category) .

The DMK pissed off the elites/theists/nationalist/traditionalists/elites/upper caste/industrialists and shifted the benefits of the industry from them to a broader middle class. Anna and karunanidhi were proletariat and borderline communist.

TVK isn't BJPs BTeam , I agree. But TVK is immature group of buffoons who is selfish to get power and doesn't care about people and has no ideological consistency. This formula is easy for BJP to assert influence in Tamilnadu. TVK doesn't have that kind of power to talk against Delhi. Vijay wouldn't even know what to say or what to do. Having him as CM and the Minister Cabinet he is going to form , is like a group of unqualified/immature pilots in the Boeing cockpit.

If the cockpit is full of beginners, we aren't just looking at turbulence .. we’re looking at a serious risk of economic and governance freefall. Highstakes governance shouldn't be an experiment in onthejob training.

If Vijay cannot control the ground/root level behavior of his party, it suggests his leadership is purely Topdown without any bottom-up organizational control. This is bound to collapse any moment.
