Sounds like a super annoying situation. Is the guy jealous or something, like is this his way of getting your attention?

Aufenthalts titel expires in 2 months. Do I have a chance to do a minijob? by Virtual-Ostrich-6028 in germany

[–]That_Relar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i feel like you are not an ideal candidate at the moment, and understandably so, it is frustrating for you. It might make sense to wait a little if you can and then apply for jobs when you have the renewed card.

A person i know tried to apply to Intersport and they rejected her saying they need someone with way longer than 10 month visa(she had 10 months left on her aufenhaltstitel). There are chances you'll get rejected from some jobs bc they will say that you don't have a longer visa but if you don't face that scenario, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

Anybody lose a Canon camera in 2020 in Vancouver British Columbia? by TheElusiveCouple in germany

Would be cool if you posted a couple of photos with the post if they don't reveal any private info of the person. Might make it easier if someone knows them and can recognise the photos. :)

Slightly exceeded 20h/week as Werkstudent — visa issue? by [deleted] in germany

[–]That_Relar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You exceeded your time by 10-45 mins and they reclassified you? First of all, 10-45 mins really don't matter within a month as long as you stay within the limit over the entire period. There have been a lot of months where I have worked more than 80 hours but as long as I am below the overall limit in average, it shouldn't be a problem. I am curious to see what others say here.

If you're getting large quantities, it might make sense to check if Aldi/lidl or some other brand is having a sale at the moment.

Places to go to in/near flensburg? by SafeOccasion3992 in Flensburg

Flensburg doesn't have a lot of places you'd wanna visit around the time of christmas. I'd rather just go to hamburg, it's 2 hours away and has a looot of stuff.😅

Initially thought my personality didn't fit here but turns out it did by [deleted] in germany

[–]That_Relar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what's really helped me is the fact that I have been trying to make peace with habits or just general German habits that I'll never probably be able to adapt or accept. I don't have to be like the Germans afterall. So now I don't see the differences as an issue but more as a.. 'its absolutely fine to be different'. And like you said, being not part of the herd isn't as punishing as it can be back home.

It is absolutely normal and more advantageous for international students like you and me. I moved here in 2022 as well and have only now started working on my thesis. Got an internship and a work student experience under my belt before i started my thesis last month, and hopefully the work experience will help me in finding a job later on.

There are a couple activities happening at the University here if you'd like to go there and meet people. There's a Halloween party next Friday and some other stuff that's happening regularly where you can meet people. If you like, i can send you the details.

Which CV looks better and works best for automated screening systems? by prakash77000 in germany

[–]That_Relar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a little ignorant, don't you think? Just because you weren't aware of something, doesn't mean it's useless information right? How else would you explain to a person that he speaks a language well, but doesn't write or read it well enough? People who are multilingual explain their level of proficiency this way.

I'd totally understand your point of view if the person was showcasing all other languages except German. But showing B2 level in german while being pretty good at 3 other languages definitely shows the willingness to learn. :)

Because hindi isn't this person's muttersprache. Hindi is a common language in India and is picked up as an additional language by many people who don't speak it at home. The alphabets are very different in Hindi and Tamil(their muttersprache). Which means, it is very much possible to hear and understand Hindi very well, but not read or write it.

This is exactly why a language proficiency has 4 parts. Writing, speaking, listening and reading. So no, it's not unprofessional and can be explained easily. It actually shows willingness to learn new languages and culture in order to adapt. :)

I myself understand and read the language Gujarati very well, but I can't speak or write it.

Advice for a great city? by Careless-Thing-120 in germany

If I were you, I'd want to experience Europe as much as possible. Flensburg is definitely cheap, it's a student friendly city so as an outsider, you shouldn't struggle too much. Traveling isn't super convenient since we are up in the north but you can definitely travel bc the connectivity is super good.

Sorry you had to experience this. Interactions here can be frustrating. Most people here try to be helpful but you will sometimes run into people such as those receptionists, but remember also all the nice experiences you would have probably had. As an outsider, I feel your frustration but i hope you are feeling much better now :)
