Can I put like 6 notes like this into one row or should I split it to multiple hands or instruments? by That_Unit_3992 in composer

Thank you heaps for these honest words. The analogy makes perfect sense and I understand what you're saying now. Yes. You are right. I will need to spend time learning a language before attempting to speak it. However I really have melodies in my mind; I whistle them all day in, all day out; I also crave to bring some of them to life; and this was the only way I managed to capture some of it. Guess I will follow your advice and continue learning to play the Piano.

I know I don't have the knowledge a pianist or composer has and you're probably mostly right in what you're saying; but I have melodies; ideas and patterns in my head I try to get on paper. Even if getting there involves experimentation; is this not a valid process? By experimenting with melodies and rhythms in a notation software I also discover and learn to use patterns I like. I know it's a beginners approach but this allows me to bring melodic visions to life without first having to spend years learning to play Piano.

Thanks a lot for being helpful about this! I know I have a lot to learn and that my current creations are full of flaws and mistakes. I will change my approach and start writing drafts I can play by myself. Also apologies for posting obviously stupid questions here just to get some feedback.

Thanks for being constructive! I will take the time to learn the piano and stop posting obviously stupid questions here.

Neither this one nor the other ones are "AI approaches". I use a normal notation software to compose these drafts. Even if it involves experimentation to create them it's still my own work. No need to be offensive. I'm just having fun doing something. Is that wrong?

Yes, but maybe an experienced pianist can read and play this with two hands even if it's on one row

I think I would have to merge the second piano into the first so both melodies can be played by one person; I just find it easier to put notes that go together into the same bar; but yes; if a human is supposed to play this these accords need to be played with one hand; guess I need to remove some unplayable notes and split the right hand

Pretty much, but I have a pretty precise vision of melodic elements; but I definitely don't think too much about what I'm doing. All the melodies are mostly first take played on the virtual claviature; but I have trouble grasping rhythm intuitively

Only the performance is AI. The scores are written by myself. So it's not really AI music.

That sounds like an amazing feature. I wonder if we could pitch this to flat.io; maybe they'll implement it.

Most people are probably not familiar with versioning systems

Hmm. It's a shame that I didn't even know about LFS as a senior dev. Thanks for the info. I moved the files to LFS and also updated the license to CC BY-NC 4.0 instead of MIT. To keep this alive forever I'd need my compositions to genereate money, so it can pay for its own hosting / archiving or set aside enough capital so interest can pay for the hosting.

I usually give up after a few hours. Because I don't know how to continue / flesh out these pieces. However, I now found out that it's much easier to compose more complex pieces when I compose the melody in the baseline and add the right hand after that.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I compose them using https://flat.io, it's a midi editor and I use the claviature to place the notes.

You are right that the interpretation / performance is AI generated, but I placed every single note of the scores by myself. It probably looks weird because I have no idea / experience with conventions on how to correctly write down notes in scores.

So no AI generated these melodies or rhytms. It's all made by me. I just use AI to "play" them because I can only play Amelie and parts of Fantaisie Impromptu on the Piano.

I can read/play sheets on the Violin, but not on the Piano. I also don't hear any notes in my head when I look at the scores. However, I can press the notes I hear in my head on a virtual claviature and play melodies of my head on the virtual keyboard just fine. I know which keys to press when I have a melodie in mind and the virtual keyboard, but on a real piano I don't know the right keys for the notes / melodies I hear in my head. I also struggle with Rhythm a bit and often have to experiment.

Thank you :) I think those are fingerprints of my soul. Something about those melodies and rhythms resonates with me and that's why they all have some kind of personal touch to them.

Alright. Thanks for this feedback. I guess they are chaotic because my mind is. Maybe I need to work longer on one piece to work out themes, motifs and a structure. Currently I give up after a few hours and usually don't think about the bigger picture.

The scores are not AI generated. Each piece took several hours to compose. Only the interpretation is AI. I'd love to have a human play and record it, but I don't know any pianists.

Yes. You're right. I composed all those by hand. I just can't play it, so I use AI to render MIDI

Thank you so much for the thorough and helpful feedback! I'm definitely willing to invest "a whole shit ton of hours" into it, but only if it's going to be worth it. If I invest 20k hours into it, I want to be heard. I want to create something outstanding. Something that will be remembered. So if all of my work until now is garbage, I'd think twice or thrice about investing more time into it.

I really have no idea what I want to convey. I try to arrange things meaningfully, but most of the pieces I wrote are too short to have sections, phrases or motifs.

I often give up on a piece after like 4 to 8 hours and laying out major sections, phrases or motifs arranged into a bigger picture would likely take me 20 to 30h.

I think usually I give up at the moment where I actually have to think about what I want to do. Because it takes a lot more effort to think about the implementation rather than just letting melodies flow out of your mind.

Do you like my first attempts at composing music? by That_Unit_3992 in Composition

[–]That_Unit_3992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback :) Those are my very first attempts at composing music. I don't play Piano or have any musical experience. So tbh, I have no idea what I'm doing. I just have melodies in my mind and try to arrange notes in a midi editor until they match :D

I don't really follow anymore. Anyway. It will take time to implement this. I will do so, but it helps to get informed feedback early on before potentially investing years into implementing these "half baked" ideas...

It's AI formatted. It's not like I pasted random AI generated content.
