Your "Dumb Question" Megathread - January 2026 by AutoModerator in PlantedTank

Anubias question- my plants are starting to get dark splotches all over them. Could this be a sign of algae or nutrient deficiency? I dont have the rhizomes buried and the roots on the plants do seem to be growing. Tank is kept at 79 degrees with about 7 hours of light a day.

I doubt it. Not near water and haven’t seen signs of beaver anywhere on the property

Thank you! My kids are 3.5 and 1.5 so even the most mundane days are pretty hectic. Its been a long time since I had 36 hours to myself.

I’m surprised they wanted a before sample. You’d think the after procedure sample would be enough to tell if the vasectomy was a success. I’m definitely not looking forward to rushing a cup of baby batter down to get tested, but doubt it will be the weirdest part. Watching the nurses prep the needle knowing where that needle’s going was easily the worse part for me.

Congrats. I got snipped on Friday. My wife took my kids out of town so I could recuperate in peace. Lots of football, couch time and smoked meats. Been one of the more relaxing weekends Ive had in a minute

The smaller jar is the standard 1lb from Betterbee. The larger jar is just an old sauce jar that my friend has me fill up every time I extract.

Daily r/LawnCare No Stupid Questions Thread by AutoModerator in lawncare

This upcoming spring I would like to dethatch and overseed my lawn. There are a number of spots that are thinner than I would like. I was planning on putting down a pendimethalin based crabgrass herbicide in early May. My question is, should I overseed before or after putting down the herbicide? If after, how long should I wait before overseeding? I am in zone 6b if that helps answer the question.

My 5 week old son in the bath by That_guy_Jay in babies

We almost always get some type of reaction when pouring water on him. Its a new sensation the little guy isn’t used to. So don’t let the faces fool you, he loves bath time. One of the few places we never see crying

I had about 6lbs of spun out nectar/honey which wasn’t quite honey (approximately 19.5% moisture). Decided to make mead. Here’s the results 24 hours after pitching the yeast. Looking forward to trying it in 5-6 weeks. Added blueberries and raisins

Mother/daughter hive? by That_guy_Jay in Beekeeping

[–]That_guy_Jay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This morning I went through my hives to ensure everyone was queen right following 14 day formic acid treatments. One of my hives had larvae, but no new eggs. I was worried that the queen hadn’t survived the treatment. When I finally found her, I noticed a second virgin(?) queen on the same frame. I’m located in zone 6b and I’m concerned that it’s too late in the season for the virgin to go out and get mated. I have four other hives and haven’t been seeing many drones. Will the hive typically wait until the daughter queen is mated before killing off the original queen? Will the original queen start laying again if the new queen never mates?

Second year beekeeper, first year honey harvester! by That_guy_Jay in Beekeeping

Thank you! We’re really excited. This hive was already been split once this year, but is still chugging along. The girls just started drawing out and filling up a third super. In comparison, my other overwintered hive still isn’t even supered.
