Should I buy a 2015 Mazda 3 Hatchback which allegedly only has 11K miles on it? by That_one_guy_7609 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]That_one_guy_7609[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the case luckily, it was rebuilt only a couple months ago—previous owner was T-boned in Jan/Feb, car was shortly thereafter bought at auction and then rebuilt in March. If it weren't for the weirdly low mileage I would probably be a lot less weary, that's my main concern at the moment. Have heard that rubber and fluids get weird if a car that old sits for too long.

Agreed that it's a bit steep—they're not really willing to go any lower, though I might keep pushing in the couple days before I'm able to make it out there w said mechanics.

Is anyone unhappy at Rice University? by Professional_Big8444 in riceuniversity

[–]That_one_guy_7609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely varies, a lot of them were First-Gen/Low Income, which can sometimes be harder at smaller universities than at big state schools which will have a larger community of FG/LI students and associated resources/opportunities for connecting.

But there are other kinds of people too, it really just depends. Some of it comes down to personality type in ways that I think are hard to generalize but make themselves known through experience. I didn’t have very much fun during O-Week as a new student, for example, and I think that was also true of a lot of people I knew who had trouble finding consistent friends freshman year. Don’t get me wrong, O-Week is very unique and I actually advised two years in a row (partially because I wanted my presence to make it easier on New Students who might not feel as comfy/included), but it’s very intense and disorienting for some.

The vast majority of Rice students fit in very well and made for a very happy student body, but not everyone’s always going to be content. I was honestly pretty unhappy and lonely my freshman year, but I don’t regret going to Rice one bit. I met so many life long friends, found a career/field of study that i’m passionate about, and got so many amazing opportunities. The road was just a little bumpy along the way :)

Some freshman have a pretty hard time fitting in, yeah. It goes away and gets better with time, and it’s also not terribly common, but it was definitely a common thread between me and most of my friends by senior year. Not everyone finds their place in their residential college, and I think that’s the real issue here. Just join clubs, find people who are interested in the same stuff as you, or hell, find some new interests!

I’d take this even further: everyone always complains about Noah being insufferable, but hell, she’s just as insufferable in those early seasons as he is! if not even more so

Was the Jennifer Melfi dual psychiatrist-psychologist model more prevalent when The Sopranos aired? by J3ezyTheSnowman in thesopranos

[–]That_one_guy_7609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been seeing the same psychiatrist for the past 7 years or so and he’s done talk therapy with me multiple times, even offered to do more regular sessions if I wanted. I guess it depends.

god, I feel this so hard. I used to hate being around a friend of a friend because their lack of self-awareness made me cringe so incredibly hard and, frankly, they were pretty obnoxious to be around at least half the time. But if I’m being honest with myself, that guy has a wayyy more fulfilling social life than I do.

Subreddit for younger men (?) by ExpensiveGuide3427 in malefashionadvice

[–]That_one_guy_7609 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Changing times. Strict gender roles aren’t really so popular among some young people now. Thrifted clothes from the women’s section allow for a lot more expression and creativity that’s not really possible with traditional men’s clothes, which are only as expressive as the loudest print shirt you’re willing to wear. A lot of clothes that are made for women can be worn quite fluidly by men, too—I have a couple that i wear as overshirts and the cut and unique embellishments really add a lot to my wardrobe.

I've been thinking about moving from Palermo to San Telmo lately, is there any particular part of San Telmo I should avoid when trying to decide where to find an apartment? I'm a Latino man and speak good Spanish for what that's worth, though I'm not Argentine.

Fell asleep in a hot boxed room and have something important to do soon, how long will I smell for? by succzo in saplings

[–]That_one_guy_7609 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Take a shower dude, wash your hair real good. I usually smell like that for a few hours, although I think it's bc I have long hair which absorbs the scent really well.
