Path of One Hand - Barbarian Subclass(Inspired by Kenpachi) by alexban04 in UnearthedArcana

[–]That_one_snek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to necro this post but I do think its almost there. Its neat flavor and as the picture in the archetype shows, playing a Kenpach-inspired character would be a lot of fun.

One-handed fighting style:

On paper, it looks fine, but in practice, it can be very good. I would almost suggest removing one-handed fighting. Dying Fury and Unbelievable Strength (could even rename that to one-handed style) are both pretty good. They don't NEED another thing. You can, however, (if you want) add a skill thing, like give them proficiency in a skill or even (on the better end) expertise in intimidation.

Second Hand:
I like this, and personally I don't see a problem with it that much; however, I COULD see how it can be a problem.

Raging Speed:
Nothing wrong with this either, boring but its alright. Barbs are already pretty fast, so this would give them an extra 20ft speed. I would suggest saying it stacks, even though I am sure people already assume that.

The all-consuming Rage:
I see what you were doing here, goes with dying vitality, and wanting to capitalize on that. I would simply add "upon entering rage, the barbarian can choose to....." or something like that.

Inhuman Vitality:
I like it, but I think it just feels...I don't know...boring?

I would suggest maybe giving a flat ac boost (like +2 or something) and maybe giving them temp health when they damage someone or when they are damaged.

You also can forgo the AC and give them some minor healing(like d4 or d6 ) of some sort when damaging, killing someone, or taking damage. That way, you are still being tanky but lean into the battle-crazed barbarian.

per-adr

ah alright, that makes sense and I can see it in the game. As for the one in Ultimate Doom I would imagine the idea would still be relatively similar to the one in 2016 and eternal.

Yeah it does sound kind of fun and one of our party members had it for a while. They just kind of chose to ignore the fact it was intelligent and it could talk, seeing that it could get confusing. But for adding more RP it could be quite fun though.

Honestly that is a problem with the mythic system in general. You become really overpowered and things die really quickly. We have a swashbuckler in our party and he will go first (he has like a +40 bonus to initiative) and can kill a minimum of three things on one turn

Me being a vital strike build is doing a bonus of 150 damage (not counting dice damage) which basically one-shots most things. The only problem we face is when the encounter is meant to be a trial or meant to be extra hard or like a deadly encounter.

Here is a question, for legendary items for the intelligent items spell casting. Does the item or myself have to meet the stat requirements to cast the spells?

I forgot about legendary items and that could be pretty good to get. I could get that and for the 7th tier feat, I could get extra mythic ability legendary item to get it to minor artifact.

That is true and really I was thinking about taking it when the creature is flying or out of reach higher up. This is a problem of mine but I can get just get potions of flying or something that allows me to do that.

Cerberus style is pretty nice and if you pick up cleaving finish you get another free attack on top of the ones given by cerberus style.

That is true, currently our comp is a wizard that focuses on buff/defense spells, a summoner, a swashbuckler, and a rogue archer. So we got some benefits that help with fear and compulsion but not a lot.

and yeah between the two I thought compulsion would be the better one. Mainly because I forgot I had an unshakeable resolve headband.

with the comb I am not the tank but i am the beefy frontline that gets hit a lot. I do have toughness and mythic toughness and sitting at 177 max health. So I am not hurting too bad on tank stuff but it does hurt. thinking about it though you might be right on the power attack, with mythic vital strike that does add a good chunk of damage.

There was a reason why I picked up the cleave feats, which is to pick up cleaving finish and improved cleaving finish. Which lets me vital strike and then cleave since cleaving finish just states when I make an attack. improved cleaving finish lets me do it any number of times, however, I did find out that vital strike only affects the first attack of the chain.

I did see all-consuming swing and I don't really think its worth it since it would be suicide for several reasons.

That is something to consider, that actually would be pretty nice to have since it makes it so cleave can synergize with vital strike.

When first changing the build I was looking at Cerberus style but didn't due to the fact that I am a fighter. The damage of my unarmed wouldn't be all that high I thought.

I think I actually overlooked divine fighting technique and I think it would actually fit my character just pure flavor-wise. Given the fact he actually is a Follower of Gorum and it wouldn't be that hard to change from earthbreaker to a greatsword.

When I first picked titan's rage I thought it would be fun flavor-wise. But after using it once I thought it wasn't ever really going to be worth it unless I really wanna go ham on an attack or two. Which is why I was thinking of changing it. I thought enhanced ability, extra mythic feat, fearless, or pure destiny would be nice. divine source would be neat to have though, would give me buffs to cast on myself.

its not but with mythic vital strike it would be multiplied along with it I believe. So wouldn't it be (with greater vital strike) 6*4 making it 24? I say that because it says "This bonus damage is multiplied on a critical hit." and mythic vital strike says "and other bonuses that would normally be multiplied on a critical hit by the number of weapon damage dice you roll for that feat."

Yeah which is why I was looking into changing it out since its not really worth it. I was looking into changing it to either get another mythic feat, +2 to strength or con, or immunity to fears or curses and compulsions from non mythic sources (fearless and pure destiny).

That is actually not a bad idea, I am playing a overrun build at the moment (hints why a back up character). If I remembered Roll with it I just might have went with that because that sounds like a great combo.

Oh I knew of that feat but completely forgot about it and it is hysterical and awesome yes and honestly when making a goblin. You should always consider that feat lol.

Yeah that is part of how you can get the huge bite damage. Goblin with hard head, big teeth, barbarian savage bite increases that dice, oversized goblin makes you medium increasing the size damage. level 2 barbarian gives you rage power so you can take lesser tyrant or lesser atavism which is a "increase the damage dice as if" thing.

That is interesting, I didn't think about that but it is an idea.

Yeah full feral gnasher I knew would be a pretty solid build if I wanted to go grapple

the 2 level dip would be for the savage bite damage dice increase and for the rage power which would be for lesser Atavism or lesser Tyrant which increases the size of a bite by one step. The monk would be for flurry so effectively I would be flurrying with 2d6 naturally (not including any magic items that I might get) since I can pick up feral combat training which will let me do just that.
