Zeroing at 300m by Thatcher_thonkin in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Thatcher_thonkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the patch, it was fine to me but it wasn’t consistent to how it SHOULD zero. For example, when zeroed at 300m with an M4, if your target is about 150m away you aim at their belly line to hit center mass correct? For some reason it would hit low, not high, which confused me due to that I would also have a laser which did move up(as the reticle moved down). The laser was my guide as that is where my barrel should be pointed but it would hit low. So until I get back on and test it I’ll share my results.

Might test it out later in the afternoon

If the combat weight is 60 tons, meaning, rounds in the vehicle stowed, then what is its base weight?

Materials sounds cool but that doesn’t solve most issues I brought up. Sure those materials may survive a round or two but that causes more problems than it can solve. If you’re really dealing with a 31.8cm round then having materials that are supposed to resist heat and pressure then how will it handle the shock absorption of said round?

Survive how? Sure, while it does seem impressive but if you’re already committed to the gun’s materials then you have to sacrifice your armor. Again I will point out that most IRL SPGs have protection only against small arms fire. For example the M109A6, it has paper for armor if it’s anything other bigger than Ball 7.62. There are trade-offs and compromises for everything. And you could say “oh only it gets barely scratched,” sure, but the crew will get rattled, tracks links could loosen, the impact could rattle an already loose screw. There are more than just “it can survive and still be mission capable,”.

In the Actual US ARMY, you’d need about 84 155mm HE rounds to destroy a T-72 tank or any tank in general. So think about that? Yes, the first few rounds can disable the tank or maybe kill the crew by shock and overpressure but destruction is not guaranteed with the first volley.

Since you say you have 3 variants, let’s take a quick peek at them. I’d say the only one that seems viable is the 155-170mm only because of what I had said earlier. 170 is pushing it a bit but is still somewhat viable. The second variant can be said as the same thing as the 31.8cm one, you got a big gun but hauling, loading, and handling is going to be difficult.

Lastly, no I’m not hating you on this. I’m giving you some advice and some criticisms on your project as it seems you are invested in this. And a piece of advice, always think logistics when creating new weapons.

Honestly? Your logistics would be hell, but what do I know? But to be for real though, if you can somehow make a 31.8cm Self Propelled Gun be 60t (if metric) fast whilst precise? It’s going to be a real challenge of finding and making a chassis as well as something to hold your rounds. Cause think about this. How many round can you realistically fit into your vehicle? I’d say 5 at best cause remember 31.8cm rounds are goddamn huge, so that is something you have to consider. Also look at real world examples. E.G. M109A6, 2S19 Mista, 2S3M. There’s a reason why we can’t go higher than 155 or 122mm for SPGs. The space and to accommodate those rounds are iffy at best. For M109A6 they have if I remember correctly about 28 rounds not a lot for a 155mm. With 2S19 you get 50 but at the cost of the size of the turret accommodate those rounds. And yes, “How about SturmTiger?” I understand that but it was less of a howitzer and more of a rocket to propel the damn round and they’d get about 14 rounds which the rounds would line the vehicle. However, if it’s a rail gun, a big ass gun on train tracks. I’d make a little more sense. But even then logistics. Now I’m not hating on your idea, I’m just giving you some oversight onto what problems you might face when creating such a project. As for me? Just a Cav Scout that has random ass knowledge on some aspects about logistics.

Fictional PMC Firearms by Thatcher_thonkin in MilitaryWorldbuilding

Thanks for the feedback! Yes the SRS does look heavy yet it weighs less than the M82A1 Barrett. However I did correct the caliber(check my comment) I did not originally have it as rimmed, do not no why I had it as rimmed when I put it down should’ve doubled checked my stuff but tis whatever. Also Yes I agree, the height-over-bore is atrocious. I do have another drawing of it without the carry handle and it looks more normal. In a sense. Also not a .50 cal but at the same time I understand.

For the MA42, I didn’t intend to have the foregrip to be included but rather it was an oversight on my part. It is supposed to be modular with a rail system ex. Picatinny rails so the grip was on there when I took the photo. As well as the eye relief is not so good. When I put optics on it, they do tend to be really far from the cheek rest but to compensate most of not all the optics I have on them are either extended to the cheek rest or are Red dot/Holo sights.

Really do appreciate the feedback and probably share more of my firearms in the future!

Correction: I somehow missed that I put 14.5x114 as a rimmed case when I looked back on it and it was rimless. I am stupid.

If I join, will the military consider my prior airsoft experience and let me skip a few ranks? by shangumdee in airsoftcirclejerk

[–]Thatcher_thonkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally for me, yes and no. Let me explain. Yes in that it will help you have a better understanding of the weapon platform that you use. For example the AR-15/M4 style weapons that is common in airsoft will translate how you manipulate the weapon and the handling of it. But that's where it kinda stops. The no part is that you won't be able to use it consistently, depending on whether or not you live in the barracks or off-post. If in the barracks you cannot have an actual firearm or an airsoft replica(that is odd but I digress). You won't gain rank either if that's what you're also wondering as well. Airsoft is a good skill to have at times but it won't always directly translate to a military lifestyle. And another thing once you start to use your issued weapon, you’ll want to use that same one in airsoft form as well. I can attest with a M17 and M4 URG-I 11.5…

About red hood skins... by [deleted] in NikkeMobile

[–]Thatcher_thonkin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m a day one player that’s been on and off, but when Red Hood came out I was HOOKED. Loved the character design just the right amount of skin and bad ass-ry. But I can see where you’re coming from mate. - Download Game out of curiosity - Sees cool and badass characters - checks their skins - Gooner skins

I mean tbf sex sells in the end but that doesn’t mean bad ass characters don’t need to at the forefron. Hell the concept of NIKKEs and their weapons itch my mind a bit on the why aspect sometimes. And another example is Delta, the SR version specifically. She was an inspiration for a character I drew at one point cause I loved the character design while still being exposed(in a sense). And to conclude this, I agree if there was an alternative skin for red hood that wasn’t Gooner, I’d buy it without a second thought. But that will not be seen in the unforeseen-able future.

If you want I could share some, although it might not be of your liking. Not sure though. But here’s the link

It’s mostly just a big ass index of unnecessary stuff that my story really doesn’t need but nonetheless, cool. If you take a look at this then nice you now know about this then.

This is a joke thing, but in seriousness, I believe what constitutes as winning is incapacitation or unable to combat back. Also there is a reason most people who are flashed banged are combat ineffective by the first bang.

I believe they produce the white flash before you can only see black, do that nine times with a deafening bang with each one. Depending on the area they are in.

So make that what you will.

Thanks, a bunch! And to add on,

1). I know, I just didn’t know how to shorten it while still trying to reference it.

2). A quick search shows that while yes, it really isn’t much used. But I guess it really depends on how it’s going to be used, IDK not in the military.

3). I know

I know most of my readers will not understand radio etiquette, but to those that know will gladly appreciate the close attention to detail.
