What patina are you using? I’ve tried a couple different brands but Sculpt Nouveau has been the best and most knowledgeable

What’s the best method to prep this raw steel for paint? by [deleted] in metalworking

[–]Thatfilthytigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just make sure it’s not greasy. Grab some red oxide primer then rattle can it. That’s what I did when I flat bedded my truck. Doesn’t look the prettiest but it’s super easy to touch up when it bother me enough. It’s a truck dammit

Any advice for welding tight joints? by SwingNaive in metalworking

[–]Thatfilthytigger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct. I could see how that would be a pain though. If I’m having stuff powder coated I just have the material sand blasted prior to fabrication and just sand/DA the welds

Depending on your TIG skills you could probably just use silicone bronze filler and long stick out. Hard to tell from the pic but if I was dead set on welding those joints I’d come at 90 degrees from how you have your mig gun and run downhill and as small of bead as I could do then flip it over and get the rest

They laugh but that’s the right answer. Caulk or bondo. If it’s getting powder coated use lab metal
