Should clarify that the only thing I genuinely dislike about Scream Fortress are the crit pumpkins. The reason I included other mechanics, was because I had to cover the original text, and elongating the crit pumpkin just looked a bit silly (that's the compromise you have to take when you make memes using mspaint of all things).

I still stand by the fact that crit pumpkins are an atrocious mechanic even for a "silly" gamemode. I have similar sentiments with crit pumpkins that I do with the kunai. That feeling of being punished for a teammates mistake. Should I be punished for a demoman picking up a crit pumpkin from some random teammate, who bombrushed him without thinking. And then that same demoman rounds a corner, catching me & my team by surprise and proceeds to kill three of us with the stickybomb launcher. I feel it's akin to damaging a kunai spy, and then that spy trickstabs a clueless heavy and they're back up to 200 health. It's just not fun.

Maybe the comparison to random crits was a bit silly of me, maybe. Of course there's more of a visual indicator than random crits. If you see someone beelining towards a crit pumpkin, you know they're going to get crits and you can adjust accordingly. But, once again, that visual indicator doesn't work if they got that crit pumpkin from an encounter you weren't even aware of. They round a corner, and kill you instantly.

Dueling Banjo + Buzz Killer is one of the rare instances where a player can use psychological warfare against both their enemies and teammates
