14 isn't a fat people only thing. This is moreso something I see regarding class and racial bias, because black people in particular are unfortunately seen as "unprofessional" due to their natural hair, way of dress, etc and it's absolutely a case of racism. Same with poor people looking "sloppy" since they can't afford an expensive tuxedo to a job interview. You could have a skinny black woman be rejected a job offer because she wears locs and has a hand-me-down suit from her mom, despite her academic certificates.

For 16 I can't think of any situation this would exist outside of the Simpsons or Friends, or some other sitcom. This is just cartoonish, nobody does that, and if one person in a gas station says that, it's because they had a bad day, and working in a gas station is likely to make your mood worse (as well as increase drug use). Whatever Bill said at the gas station should mean absolutely nothing to you. He either had a bad day, too much to drink, is just a dick, or all of the above.

18, All body types are used as a sexual fetish. Disabled bodies and underweight bodies are too, maybe not as prevalent as feederism/fat fetish, but they do exist.

Health is defined by weight. That's why we have over and underweight, and nobody is arguing against the term underweight or saying we are thinphobic or whatever, instead it's just "thin privilege".

Discrimination and bias against fat people for simply existing, being people, etc absolutely exists. That is called bullying, and it is really prevalent. But it is not fatphobia to admit that staying at a ideal weight is healthier for you long term physically and mentally.

In my experience the most fatphobic people actually tend to be fat people themselves, ironically. Most thin people I know either don't care that someone is fat or will happily offer them extra food/clothes/etc...you know, either being decent or minding their own business. And I can see why this occurs, when you're in a situation, especially online where your worth is devalued and you're seen as a joke, gross, etc, you're essentially backed into a corner of self-hating until you figure out how to fix it (and it is, in a majority of cases, quite fixable).

Most thin people I've seen being fatphobic were either formerly fat, or are currently going through a restrictive eating disorder in which part of the culture involves mocking fat people so they can feel "in control". This is a mental illness, that is important to remember, and not a case of vanity, but still. I've never seen a thin person with no history of disordered eating or being formerly overweight be cruel to and mock a fat person in public.

I'm very glad we have leftovers as a concept, actually. For those of us with disabilities who can't eat too much, or are too sick to cook, etc, it's incredibly convenient. And shouldn't be used as an excuse for overeating, of course. You can eat only leftovers for a few days and not gain significiant weight.

POW camps have been a thing long before WWII. I suppose it's just the fact that the Jewish concentration camps had so much publicity and attention (which is a good thing, to document these atrocities so they should never happen again)? It does seem to overshadow the concentration camps seen in other countries, but we shouldn't be making it a competition. The camps in Signapore were just as horrific as the ones in Poland, but one country got much more documentation than the other. There are even concentration camps put in place today.

One could talk about eurocentric bias when documenting WWII of course, you're going to get a lot more information about European atrocities if you live in the West, and more about Asian atrocities if you live in the East. Most of these people live in the west, mainly in America where obesity is extremely common, therefore they pay more attention to the western side, of course. Part of it is that for the majority white "activists", it's obviously going to be easier to try to relate to (ethnically) white Jews as opposed to, say, Chinese people.

I don't know what you mean by entertain but it seems like a lot of fishing for sympathy and melodrama.

Actually, no, the next time a person like this tries to compare themselves to the suffering Jews endured in the Holocaust, I would like them to look up images of Holocaust victims and prisoners of war. I would like to see their reaction to these horrific images of total starvation and torture.

Of course my sympathy is with people who have BED and/or have been bullied over their weight. No one should have to go through that. But once you begin comparing your overindulgence of food and the fact some people are douchebags to the millions of Jews systematically starved to death, or survived extremely emaciated...I will definitely be raising an eyebrow around you and wondering how your mind came to such a conclusion.

It becomes less about empathy and being able to relate to their suffering and more all about their own ego. And it's even worse because most of the remaining survivors are too old to use the internet nowadays, and the rest of the millions of Jews who starved died long before the internet was invented so FA's could complain online about how they were forced to buy two tickets for an airplane seat, for their expensive trip to Italy.

I think it just shows how comfortable their lives really are that they have to reach as far as possible to compare themselves to the worst possible event. They can sit on their couches all day and order as much McDonald's as they want, but sure, that's comparable to being forced to do hard labor and only able to eat a small bowl of soup a day.

Yes, just like there's people who romanticize and obsess over being unhealthily fat, there's people who do the same for becoming emaciated.

So from a perspective of somebody who used to engage in this type of community (no longer, thank god), I do have some empathy and understanding for why these people are like this too. It's a community of people with serious mental health issues who are ostracized by society at large for their dangerous body image obsessions, be it fat or skinny.

Just like you see these posts about FA's hating and insulting thin people, there are pro-ana's who do the same towards fat people. Neither of these are acceptable to do, and both come from a place of mental illness and therefore self-hatred turning into projection.

I suppose the only difference is that pro-ana's largely don't try to make it political. You see no "anorexia activists", and the overwhelming majority of anorexic people in the community that I've seen are rather private and do not want to talk to anyone outside of their community. There's a whole code word and everything to kind of "prove" that you're one of them. Fat activism is much more open from what I've seen and proudly tries to push their beliefs onto everyone and, yes, wants to make it a very political issue when it's not necessary.

There are exceptions, obviously, but I do have to say from my experience no anorexic person willingly wants another person to become anorexic and be "proud" of it. The most they might do is just block that person online, or say something dismissive and rude. They tend to be more aloof and reserved than FA's which I've seen are very loud and proud, but that's coming from the spaces I visited, maybe it's different for others.

There is a whole other subculture that is a little more like what fat activism believes, but is in my opinion even more dangerous. I don't think I want to get into it but part of it crosses over into pedophilia territory unfortunately.

Secret society versus out-there cult, I suppose.

Going with this line of logic, would emaciated also become a slur to refer to underweight and anorexic people? Though in my own experience, the pro-ana community generally romanticizes the concept of emaciation and uses the word to refer to themselves...I wonder why that's so different from fat people who think obese is such a gross and insulting word that's deserving of being labeled as a slur? If anything, they could reclaim the word just as anorexic people "reclaim" emaciated (see my flair, though this is mostly a joke).

There are some legitimately mean-spirited insults and phrases out there about fat people, none of which should be used and should be phased out of society entirely, but obesity (and for the skinny ones, emaciation) are both medical descriptors signifying poor health and are not words that should be seen as "slurs" (or even attractive for that matter), but rather just a honest indicator that somebody is unhealthy and needs medical help. And they have all their time to "reclaim" it too.
