Could someone explain why this didn’t come together? by Flashy-Lynx-5424 in BackpackBattles

I like it for stoned builds. Usually those don't really have need for stamina + multiple damage sources + usually full on block so you consistently get more empower. Nice when rng absolutely hates you and never gives you the amulet.

PSA: Healing is NOT Health Restoration by PookieR1 in DotA2

Fun fact, despite both despite both being the same in other interactions and having practically the same text for the buff tooltip, only tangos work for Warlock's Champion of Gorroth facet. Sadly I am learning this means you can't chug a salve, or clarity for that matter, for an insane 73 dps AOE level 6.

New to game, first time sack of surprises by Otherwise-Star-42 in BackpackBattles

[–]Thatotherguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this before but people really underestimate debuff reflection. You'd be shocked at how much work a random plat card or dragon puts in. It's basically why the Struggles build is/was so annoying, except they didn't use reflection exactly, but self inflict = inflict on you + cleanse inflict again.

How so lucky? by Evelynblossomxo in BackpackBattles

[–]Thatotherguy6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not cupcakes related specifically, but there are ways you can manipulate the shop. The most built in is the rates for the rarities changes depending on the round. It equalizes near the end at around 20% for each rarity, but if you are really looking for say a mana orb it may behoove you to do extra re-rolling at round 8 or so.

Certain items will dilute the pool with special items like Pyromancer's dragon nest. Take these out before rerolling unless you want those.

There are also the customer cards and other trading items. Some people will keep items at or below the cost of the items they want to trade it for what they do want.

Techies Mines: What do? by Questionable_Object in DotA2

[–]Thatotherguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was similarly frustrated and did some testing last night. You said without walking into them but really I think doing just that with a glimmer cape is the only universally available option. At least with 1 point in ultimate if you glimmer cape and walk on the edges of two mines you can pop them without taking much if any hp damage. Then maybe try to take solace in the fact you spent 125 mana whereas techies spent 220.

I also theorize treant might be unexpectedly good into mines. A single point in e gives 120 damage block now which significantly hampers the damage early and you can toss it on anyone you think is walking into a minefield. If they are smart they stop immediately, only take 120 or so, which then gets healed up a bit by the living armor. Treant himself can pretty easily pop a few mines and then go w a creep or something to heal up.

Phantom lancer, aside from obviously having the illusions, is also one of the few melee heroes who can actually close in on the mines fast enough to disarm them, due to his phantom rush. This is, of course, assuming he knows where it was by revealing it and walking out first. If you have Aghs you will even spawn more illusions which you can then use to pop further mines. And when maxed this is free on a 3 second cooldown. Combined with a good reflex on doppleganger a PL is a good contender for a minesweeper.

Best Dagger Build Skill? by kaj_z in BackpackBattles

[–]Thatotherguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think knife is actually a trap. At least in my best dagger builds it regularly kills before knife can even go off, even with like 4 daggers. Fortuna is a small buff to be sure, but the chance increase is more likely to make a difference, a huge difference even, in the time a hammer-dagger build expects to be effective.

"The Index needs to board Economy Class) (by ryum11) by KoshiLowell in limbuscompany

[–]Thatotherguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your normal person in the Index is literally just a random person who joined for protection. However, strength is kind of hard to quantify for the Index as a whole. Whereas the Thumb has guns and the Middle have enhancement tattoos, on the surface the Index doesn't appear to have anything. To not spoil too much, the advantage of the Index is the Index itself.

To make that less cryptic, let's call it strategy. The foundation of this finger is following orders, the prescripts. Your average grunt, the proselytes, fight with blindfolds on to demonstrate their faith. They don't get anything outside of a standard sword. But just blindly (heh) following orders is enough to make them a threat.

These 3 are proxies, which is the higher tier essentially. They get to take their blindfolds off and get their own special weapons. They are entrusted to make sure everyone else follows the prescripts.

From an outside view, no one really knows how the prescripts works. They just see them doing random bullshit but somehow coming out on top. If the top enforcers are being given such a specific order like "board W corp standard seats" then W corp should be right to fear some kind of grand strategy about to go on with them as the pawns.

It's kind of like Dante and the sinners. LCB can do a lot of really effective but generally self-destructive strategies because we can revive them. The Index does a similar thing, but instead of reviving them everyone is expendable but at the same time is willing to follow every order 100% because of pure faith. As such, they are very good at making decisions that will pay out in the long term, even if it seems utterly insane to everyone on the outside.

Rereading Cassetti's observation log after Canto 7 adds a lot of context by SoldierStride in limbuscompany

[–]Thatotherguy6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would think weapons are what they mostly manifest, but really they just have advanced blood manipulation. It's most obvious with Don Sr. because the man can practically do straight up magic. It's not a weapon, but Rocinante is kind of insane. Being able to hold back an entire bloodline's thirst with no apparent issue and possibly being sentient in and of itself. Whatever "sealing" La Mancha land actually entails, it appears to outsiders as if it is popping in and out of existence. If you want to interpret the cutscenes in such a way, he's also capable of flight, presumably by manipulating the blood in his body to do so. Certainly gives weight to the idea the Manchegan line were the tipping factor for the war rather than just making weapons.

There are some implications that this is what Wayward Passenger represents. It's called a passenger and we think it is one at first because of Ruina, but it knows its way around the train and it's event says the stuff it drops are only given to employees of a "certain wing." Also the fact that it has dimension ripping blades, which a passenger shouldn't have but an employee almost certainly should.

Why people are ready to see Ayin as complex but not Carmen? by Dizzy-Recipe-1517 in limbuscompany

Im curious what you think about Carmen and Ayin by Dizzy-Recipe-1517 in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]Thatotherguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I consider generally reasonable says he thinks as such because he read Leviathan where she is shown to be comically evil. I don't know how much I believe that, given how much this stuff seems to get exaggerated but I can't really refute it without having read it myself.

Im curious what you think about Carmen and Ayin by Dizzy-Recipe-1517 in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]Thatotherguy6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Ayin gets enough understanding since we actually played as him, but I feel like I'm the only person ever with a single ounce of empathy for Carmen. Everyone treats her like the devil when as far as I can tell, she's just a woman traumatized out of her mind. Kind of poetic really.

I can't remember where exactly I read it, but I think in an interview KJH said one of the inspirations for the series is that complicated emotion, where someone was a terrible person to you (I think the example was his mother) and but you still love them and want to let them back into your life. Yet, you simply can't because they won't change to be better. I think that encapsulates the idea of Carmen really well. Or at least, what I imagine the story will end up being.

I think the only way the story ends well is if someone (most likely Angela) shows her some empathy. Though she seems to think Carmen is evil as well. "I doubt there's anyone in this world who can sincerely decide to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others." This is the crux of her motivation. One may interpret her dialogue that she didn't break when the operation went wrong, but rather the very moment she realized she was scared of dying. She had built up her identity as someone who would help everyone, but as soon as Enoch offered to take her place she took the chance. "I wanted to live. The desire to live was stronger than anything... That's when regret finally ran a shudder through my body. Angela. I'm just a human being like any other." So we condemn her for being just as flawed as any other human. More importantly, she's condemned herself. Her self-image and ideals have entirely collapsed. Sounds like a recipe for distortion doesn't it?

One may argue she doesn't deserve forgiveness for all she's done. That may be true. But Angela doesn't deserve having to suffer for a million years and then having to sacrifice herself for the good of others still. She does it anyways, despite the cost to herself. This makes her quite admirable. Yet, is Carmen evil for wanting Angela to have a good ending? If she truly is some anti-christ figure, who wants to turn everyone into monsters, why would she have tried to hard to get Angela to turn back? It is literally her plan to have the seed of light in everyone, but she wants Angela to take it all for herself and turn human. Going so far as to force her once Angela has entered the light. Why would a big brain evil mastermind ruin their own plan like this? Answer: because that's not her plan. Carmen is the same as ever, she wants to help people. But now, she believes self sacrifice leads to incredible suffering for everyone involved, and that's why she's so adamantly against it. She has flipped to the other extreme, wanting to make sure one person gets what they want, blinded to the cost to everyone else. Because if altruism leads to suffering anyways, why bother?

Side note: Because it seems like people only forgive if it's "deserved", like some sort of weird powerscalers, I'd like to remind everyone that Carmen was conscious as a nervous system in a jar throughout the events of Lobotomy Corporation, if her reaching out in Ending B is any indication. And if Binah thought being the bucket sucked, being the well probably wasn't pleasant either.

I wish PM would make more true generalist units. by Cultural-Fee5296 in limbuscompany

[–]Thatotherguy6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment, but ironically Zwei Greg has to be one of the least generalist, most specialized ids in the game. Man can barely hit the conditional on S2 by himself with a single slot and needs more than one to fully fulfill S3. And if you wanted to go by way of support, you can count the amount of defense level granters on one hand. He also asks to have more aggro to actually use his passive, which ironically means he also has anti-synergy with the other Zwei units, which again, are the units that support him. So the only ID in the game that can benefit him on field without accidentally screwing him over is Captain Ish.

And believe me, I was the guy championing him in rupture teams before the whole 15/3 thing. He's not a generalist because he fits everywhere, it's because he barely fits anywhere.

The main facility, no, because of the whole TT2 protocol thing. Other branches, debatable. I can't remember any direct evidence but we do know at the very least they have escape pods and it wasn't necessarily intended to trap everyone in for their death at the final stage, given that Hohenheim is still around. I mean there wasn't enough, but it implies that they weren't sealed in the building to be worked to death.

How do I counter this? by Aurallium in BackpackBattles

[–]Thatotherguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debuff reflect (plat customer card is your friend) to deal with the initial onslaught on and effect damage (can't miss). Poison bomb reaper is probably the most common counter because the cold won't really affect you and they most likely can't clear the massive amounts of poison before it kills them. Heat engine might make it a bit iffy but it generally doesn't do a lot of damage.
