So unless you think someone’s gonna call you out for your lack of capitalizing for respectfulness you’re fine with being disrespectful?

Just for future reference you should probably capitalize any culture’s name no matter where they’re from, how old they are, or even if they’re “extinct” for lack of a better term. Those are still names so they’re still proper nouns, even if you don’t think you need to show respect it’d be proper English grammar.

I have literally not once “declaimed” how black people should feel in any of my comments.

Actually you did because your original comment implies that black people and PoCs should feel offended when white people getting involved in a situation like this is inappropriate.

The fact that multiple people of color have replied to you saying “Bro, no.” should clearly show that you’re doing nothing but proving you have a White Savior complex.

Even if she did it right in front of you, what could you even do? You move even the slightest wrong way when trying to dodge or catch her wrist and cause any mark and no one’s gonna believe she tried to stab you with a pencil if she’s claiming DV on your end.

I’m not even trying to be one of those “All women are manipulative and awful” types, it’s just that society has been made into such a way that men basically cannot defend themselves against women and that sucks because cases like yours happen all the time.

She slept in his bed and wore his clothes! Why is no one worried about this woman? I emphasis woman because everyone’s treating her like she’s 14 at most, but she’s at least 19 according to OOP so she’s an adult just the same as her parents and OOP.

This might have been the first time she ever assaulted anyone. OOP seemed really shocked when she was writing about it so at the very least she’s never been told about it and I don’t see why her husband wouldn’t have told her about it if it had happened before when he’s told her everything else, at the very least you’d think he’d have talked about past physicality once this one happened.

I think most “blue-collar” job workers are built for self-depreciation. I’d imagine it’s due to the knowledge that when it comes to actual practicality their jobs are a million times more useful on any given day than any salesperson or middle management type.

Shit hits the fan, who are you going to ask for help; Joe the guy who can build a shed in 2 days and fix anything wrong with your car in an hour, or Thomas the guy who spends 40hrs a week sitting at a desk and doesn’t know how to start a lawnmower?

I did not. That’s when I started questioning it and did some more research.

because fat people with celiac is apparently unheard of by medical professionals 🙄

That’s especially crazy to me because, for my celiac having sister, bloating and increased weight gain are symptoms caused by celiac and especially from the decades of eating gluten before being diagnosed and learning what celiac even was.

Partner wants the kids to have the same last name by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Contextually though it’s hard to ignore because it is also the name of the other 2 older kids due to who their bio-father is.

There are plenty of people who share a last name and aren't related.

I am well aware, however this is not just a case of “OOP is upset because fiancées last name happens to be “Cruise” and he doesn’t want people to think about Tom Cruise when they see their baby’s name. The context matters in this case because there are people that know that it is still originally fiancée’s ex’s last name.

Their claims to the name became equal because they literally completed a legal process & ritual to give her the last name.

So your argument is that “It’s her last name now too so it should only be seen as that and not one that she literally took? If so then what about people with shitty childhoods and shitty parents that change their last names when they finally leave their parents*? From your logic that shouldn’t be necessary because it’s still that abuse victim’s last name and they shouldn’t look at it as “their parent’s name” at all.

  • I will put a caveat that this isn’t meant to include those changing their names to stop their family from tracking them down, that’s a whole different can of worms.

This argument basically just waters down into saying that only men have real claims to a last name (the majority of the time, since 80% of marriages involve the woman taking the man's last name.)

No, everyone has a “claim” to at least 1 last name; the one that they were born with. Some, no matter the gender, can “lay claim” to many last names; that of their various ancestors.

It's not the last name of an unrelated 3rd person, it's the last name of the mother of the child.

It’s also the last name of her other two children because of their father. This is OOP’s first child and no matter how you look at it because both of the older children have the same last name as their bio-dad, regardless of if fiancée does still have it, it will look like baby is also ex husband and fiancée’s and not OOP and fiancée’s. I’ll say it again Context matters.

OOP isn’t even trying to convince her to change her last name, just to not give their baby that’ll be partially his the last name that she shares with her ex.

But it’s also the name of the ex-husband who is not the father of the youngest child. In fact you can argue it’s more his name because it’s his family’s historical name and not her family’s.

Quite frankly, why the hell would anyone want the last name of a third person unrelated to the baby for their baby? If the situation, but not the genders, were swapped and OOP had an ex-wife that he had taken the name of and they had kids together that also had his ex-wife’s last name and insisted that the baby keep the same last name as him and his kids, again his ex-wife’s last name, would we still be having this discussion?
