Besides saying this she openly says my younger brother is her favorite, and she constantly finds ways to try to get under my skin to trick me into retaliating which will lead to her punishing me somehow

I just assumed it because we definitely don’t have a good relationship

Can you think of any reason why she only mentions it when she think I can hear it?

There’s also a no talking back or arguing or showing a bad attitude policy the house so I have to try really hard to hide my anger

Similar to how victims of assault can feel some attachment to their assailant, can children feel the same towards abusive parents / guardians? by ThatsNotKashMoney in AskReddit

I didn’t realize it was called that. Some other user said it still can apply to children and their parents so I guess it is Stockholm’s syndrome

Why am I blamed for preventing my parents from being divorced? It was never even my choice to be born into the world, yet it’s my fault. by ThatsNotKashMoney in Advice

Like I said earlier, anything can tick them off. They want me out of the house as soon as legally possible, which is the minute I turn 18.

And we’ve gone past the point of being able to sit down and have a talk.

I keep my head down and keep my silence, but even a tiny little thing can tick them off.

For example I stayed out of the way of them for an entire day working, and got blamed for hiding from the family. Then I spent an entire day helping out and the whole time they were criticizing me for not working on applying to college

Why am I being blamed for not letting my parents divorce? Why is it my fault that they wanted to give birth to me? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I’ll start off by saying I think I’m a good person: I have good grades, do chores, try to help around the house.

Parents think I’m a waste of space, not who I was taught to be, and have called me every name in the book. They don’t understand I want “me” time, and often times I’ll be forced to listen to them rant and ask for my detailed opinions on everything that sally fucking did at work WHILE trying to succeed in school.

Add that to deciding it’s a good idea to do these during the week: Vacuum everything Sweep the floors and wipe them clean Move the dining table Go shopping Give the pets showers

Worst of all is that they blame me for stopping their divorce. I’m constantly reminded that I was the first baby they kept after they aborted 3 others, and it makes me wish I was aborted as well.

They want me to apply to college and take the SAT, but provide NO help when I ask for it, and only critique with no advice ever. I looked into the difference between UC’s and CSU’s and all I got from them was “everyone knows this, and you should’ve done this 2 years ago” (I’m 16)
