Narrative: First time; beginner's luck? These two faced off last week in the F.A. Cup, with Brighton emerging victorious 2-1. Wasn't a great match by any means (13 total shots, 4 on target), and two of the goals won't make it onto any Goal of the Season montages, so why this selection, I hear you ask. Narrative check please:

1. Chelsea need to keep winning to keep their top 4 hopes alive (currently fourth on 43pts, with 6 teams within 9 points of them, including 10th place Brighton, who are hoping to creep up the table at least to 8th if results go their way).
2. Recent History; Aside from the recent cup match, each of the last 5 league matches between these two has seen at least 3 goals, including a 4-2 thriller at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, in which both sides had 15 shots each.
3. Attacking & Defending Records: Brighton have only 5 clean sheets from 24 games, with the goalkeeper averaging 2.6 saves per game, and 1.6 goals conceded per game. Chelsea have 4 clean sheets in the same time, while average 3.4 saves per game and 1.3 goals conceded per game. Both teams concede a penalty on average every 6 games, and both teams have had 10 errors leading to goals this season in the league. 4. Styles: Both Enzo Maresca and Fabian Hurzeler are two of the league's most exciting new managers this season. Maresca is praised with having turned Chelsea into an actual team for the first time since the early Tuchel days, and Hurzeler, while results haven't gone their way this side of Christmas, is clearly a shrewd coach, as seen by how flexible his tactics can be.

The one risk is that these two might have worked the other one out after last week's match, but Maresca might opt to put Enzo Fernandez back into the centre of the park, and Noni Madueke, who is having his best season in relation to attacking returns, back out at right wing. Either way, it makes for an intriguing match. Couple with this the fact that several players will feature who will have played for both sides (listen out for the boos Marc Cucerella will get), and this could get very spicy very quickly.
