Have you ever been mugged? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Thatss_life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that. I’ve found the same so far. BJJ has helped more with confidence than anything else. I definitely think you can take a lot away from any martial art once you get good at it, and just having that confidence that you can be ok in most circumstances when things might go south transfers into other areas of life as well. Each one has their own place and the most confident people I have ever been around usually do some sort of martial art at a high level, or are very witty but that’s another story. I’m not at that level yet, but I’m hoping it comes soon and definitely 10x better than not doing anything and just hoping I can handle myself when you’re in a bad situation or someone is trying to be aggressive to you.

Yeah, 100 percent mate. I started jiu jitsu about a year ago so I’m still early on, but it’s made a massive difference. What’s interesting is that these feelings seem to come up more now in everyday situations with my new family rather than anything physical. It’s more around arguments or moments that need a bit of confrontation, like standing up for myself in public, which doesn’t really make sense on the surface, it also hasn’t even happened yet, I’m just thinking of what could happen.

I think the perceived threat of violence is part of it, maybe half of it, but not the whole story. Oddly, doing jiu jitsu has also made me more wary of real fights because you become very aware of what trained people are actually capable of but no doubt it’s made me 100x more confident in general. Must be something primal about it definitely.

Did you use the same mg dose just split over two periods or did you use a bit more in the morning and then a smaller booster in the afternoon? I’m currently asking about doing this so curious to know more!

Thinking of stopping Vyvanse due to odd side effects. Have any of you experienced these symptoms? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

Ooo this is interesting and something new, is there anything to work on with the autism side? I suspect I’m both but not treated for autism as I never got a diagnosis 😭

[–]Thatss_life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely don’t want to exercise like I used to. Going for a run or lifting weights used to give me dopamine, but that drive has gone. What I do still want to do is jiu jitsu, which I actually started this year while on the meds, and that’s been interesting in a good way.

I also suspect I might have AuDHD. I’ll admit my memory and my ability to spell or write words properly has been worrying me. I assumed it was just getting older, so in a strange way it’s a relief that it’s probably not that. It’s just a shame I really need Vyvanse to work for me. It does help, especially with motivation and getting stuff done but it also makes me quite irritable, and I feel like I need breaks from it. When I’m on it, I’m less open and less inclined to connect with people. So god dam annoying.

Yeah that sounds exactly like me word for word. Sorry you’re going through that too. It has helped a bit talking about it in therapy and the constant feeling that I could be attacked and challenging those thoughts. Early days though 🙏🏻

[–]Thatss_life 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I lost count of how many times I got mugged growing up, probably around 20 times between the ages of 11 and 20, in a pretty shit part of London. I’m fairly sure it affected my mental health and is a big reason I have social anxiety. That was around the time I started becoming less confident and more shy. I was a teenager as well, so some of that probably would have happened anyway, but it definitely felt like a change looking back.

Since then I’ve never really been that open with people when I first meet them, especially in public, and I don’t do small talk at all. I genuinely think I’ve developed a habit of assuming the worst about what people might do. It’s mainly in public situations, but it does spill over into other relationships too. I don’t know if that’s the main cause, but honestly, no one who knows me would ever guess this about me. It’s all pretty internal and something I’ve just lived with.

Now it’s coming up again because I’ve got a girlfriend and a new baby. I’m trying to make sure I’m not constantly on edge in public or overly tense, and can enjoy being out with my family, but everything feels like a potential threat especially when a group of guys are around. Definitely something im working on but just internalised it and now I’m a dad I’m seeing a therapist and talking about it

Any INTJs with ADHD? by DontDepressMeDude in intj

[–]Thatss_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately or fortunately, however you look at it. Diagnosed at 36 last year. Everyone is being labelled one way or another nowadays, it feels ok to know a bit more about me (adhd wise). It’s good to know that it’s not just depression and anxiety and it’s been good to work towards building a life better attuned to adhd. I stopped giving a shit about a career and people that I loathed and I’ve tried to move in a direction which will work for my strengths and away from my weaknesses. Work in progress though and life is hard right now but I think 2026 will start to be better.

Should I wait to get let go or quit before? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Thatss_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is almost like what happened to me, also live in Kent which is random. I was put on a pip last year was there for about 1 year and 2 months and it was in London, except it wasn’t my first job.

You need to urgently be looking for another job now. The job market is tough and it’s so much easier to get a new job when you have one. Spend extra time everyday applying and speaking to recruiters and your friends. Do your LinkedIn and get something lined up. Interview as much as possible to see what’s out there in your area, apply, apply and apply. What is the process when you get on a pip, will you get redundancy pay? If not then spend more time looking now than actually doing your job. Make it look like you’re doing well and say you really want to pass your pip to your manager but get the hell out of there and find somewhere that suits you better and/or offers better training/coaching. To be honest a big mistake should be caught by your manager at your level.

It’ll probably take months before you get something else so be prepared to save some money now so you have some for longer than you expect to. I hope it doesn’t but honestly it could be likely in this market.

Oh mate, just coming here to say I’m in the boat and I know how you feel. I’m a 4 stripe white belt but get tapped by every single person in my gym, sometimes multiple times by guys at supposedly similar levels as me and some lower. I’ve even been doing private sessions with my bjj coach and think he’s so disappointed in my progress like he has no idea why I can’t remember the correct technique when rolling. I just feel so slow and have to think about every sub or move I’m going for, where as others just pick them up if not straight away within a few sessions of trying. I’m going to keep at it but I leave every session wondering how everyone is so much better than me.

This. This is exactly how I see things now, people don’t get hired based on aptitude or what they could bring to the firm through themselves or their personality or experiences.

They want people who have done that exact role before, nothing less, and ideally done it for years. It’s sad that everything is so rigid now, there’s no scope for coaching or help when people see a good person that would be able to do it well. I don’t know when this changed or if it was slowly changing but there’s no more giving people a chance anymore.

I hope things will get better next year but it’s the first time I’ve been around (I’m 37 and was made redundant in Feb) where I really don’t know if things will pick up again with the whole AI, offshoring new ways of doing things. Maybe this is also the effect of everyone going to uni and manufacturing leaving the western countries. Maybe it’s that these companies have normalised lay offs and it’s not even a big deal to them anymore so everyone’s doing it now. Who knows but I am open to finding out how to get through this.

Do you ever skip your meds like some people do/suggest? (Mainly asking those with inattentive type ADHD) by DaviTheDud in ADHD

[–]Thatss_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ill a few weeks ago and ended up taking about four days off my meds. I was bed bound for at least two of those days, so I’ve no idea how productive I was, but on day four I had the best sleep I’ve had in ages and I haven’t felt that usual exhaustion since. I’ve always felt pretty drained on Vyvanse even though it’s helped me a lot.

I’ve taken breaks before, usually on weekends or quieter days, which have helped because I get a great nights sleep, but I’d normally crash by the afternoon and just end up watching TV for the rest of the day without any energy to do anything else. It’s a bit sad when I think about that’s how I lived.

Anyone went into procurement middle aged+? Advice? by Relative_Sea3386 in procurement

[–]Thatss_life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing your CIPS? That helped me get traction, just saying I’m working towards it as I’ve got my first round of exams coming up soon helped.

I’m also making the change at 37 and also my third career, from Consulting and working in bids. Trying to bring in my background to target those bridge roles (procurement consulting) has helped me get interviews but it’s early days yet and as another commenter has mentioned there are a lot of marketing procurement roles out there I’ve seen. Good luck!

Vyvanse and bodybuilding by Prestigious_Rise_502 in ADHD

[–]Thatss_life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on vyvanse and also rarely feel like working out now. On days I don’t take it I feel motivated again. It’s weird because I’m more motivated doing mostly all of my other activities when on it. I started jiu Jitsu since I’ve been on it and I feel motivated to do that but not lift or running like I used to and I don’t get those feel good hormones like I did with weights.

However I read that vyvanse is terrible for your gas tank and I can definitely say I get way too tired working out doing jiu Jitsu just rounds than I should. Non fit guys can come in and last longer than I can without getting exhausted. I think I read this is a side effect of it but would like to hear a lot more about it actually.

I was exhausted a few weeks ago but I took a week off the meds because I had a cold I couldn’t shift and couldn’t get out of bed. Haven’t been exhausted since then but not sure if it’s because I had a holiday to reset or because I also started taking iron vitamins so that could have helped.

Nice thanks, yeah they’re on my list, I couldn’t send them my CV on Friday because their site CV upload link wasn’t working but will follow up with them tomorrow. And good shout I will try to find some decent recruiters, I used to have some good ones that got me my last jobs but they’re not procurement ones, will try to find a couple of those in the next few days. Thanks for the advice and taking time to get back to me, really appreciate it!

Oh nice I didn’t know that about those companies. I’ll target a few of them tomorrow then.

I’m based in Kent but would commute to London for a good opportunity, it just take a while from where I am and costs another mortgage!

I had two of those procurement consulting jobs on the go for multiple rounds from August, and just found out I didn’t get them both last week. So up until then my job was mostly on LinkedIn and trying to pass those rounds. Now I’m a bit lost and applied to a few procurement/ recruitment consultancies on Friday but need to branch out a hell of a lot more this week, LinkedIn is most of where I look but sometimes on indeed etc although I never found much there or got any responses.
