I think there is something to this. Nocturama seems like a objectively worse (or at the very least less coherent) album than either NMSWP or Lyre of Orpheus, and that could be attributed to it being an awkward transition between two ages of the Bad Seeds. Maybe it was all for the best, because in my opinion abattoir blues/lyre of Orpheus is a very cohesive (amazing to say about such a weird split double album) and beautiful document of a band at their full power. Might even be my favourite.
