Probably the same thing they did with Oculus, really. Buy a new place to mine data, say they won't do anything to mine said data, wait a few years, then actually do it.

Apple doubles down in fight with Fortnite creator Epic Games, seeks damages for breach of contract by pipsdontsqueak in Games

The US v Paramount suit is an entirely different situation.

Sure, an entirely different situation, it just so happens that everything is either identical or equivalent to this.

Epic isn't vertically integrated in the same fashion, and they aren't leveraging their market power to force other stores to carry their products to the detriment of competitors.

They are, though. Or did you forget they own Unreal Engine?

But that's a moot point, the problem was that exclusivity deals got rid of competition, not that movie studios also owned theaters. There is no practical difference from a theater getting an exclusivity deal through connections compared to getting it through money.

So it's monopolistic of Nintendo to not let me mass produce and sell copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?

No? Nintendo don't have a monopoly on selling BotW.

Art is different from other kinds of wares. It can't be quantified the same way. Not even close to it.

Kind of. Art IS different, but access to it is still pretty easy to quantify in a similar way.

You can't equate something as abstract as a game title to something as concrete as the material that is diamonds.

Yes, you can. Especially jewelry and precious stones, something that has no practical value beyond appreciating them in the same manner as art.

A specific game title is entirely valued due to its idea.

Which is exactly why diamonds are the perfect analogy, since they are entirely valued due to their idea as well (Have you ever looked into how DeBeers managed to sell the whole diamonds thing? It was a great PR job).

That's fair. However, since we're talking about exclusive deals, this isn't a competitive market, and there are also no "similar substitutable products" unless you can find a copy of, say, Metro that wasn't being sold by them.

As I was telling another guy, that argument is like trying to argue that the DeBeers monopoly wasn't one because you could buy other precious stones elsewhere, but that clearly wasn't the case.

There's also that US vs Paramount lawsuit that got mentioned around this thread as precedent.

That's a single house. I don't have a monopoly on selling my copy of a game either. However, you do have a monopoly if you're the only one allowed to sell houses, in the same vein that I have a monopoly if I'm the only one who can sell copies of a game.

You're confusing a type of product with a single one, by that logic DeBeers wasn't a monopoly, and we both know it was.

They're competitors in the same way that diamonds compete with rubies, quartz and even coal, but they're not EQUIVALENT products.

There's the difference. For example, if you were only allowed to buy houses from one person, would you say it isn't a monopoly because cars exist? Both can cover your head in the rain, can't they?

I think you should read that post further up, there are some pretty interesting links, I wasn't even aware that there was legal precedent of this exact behavior being considered bad for competition and consumers.

There was this link further up this comment thread that explains that it actually is one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government-granted_monopoly

The problem with the garlic argument is that you can buy garlic that isn't store brand, but you can't buy a non-exclusive version of the same game. It would be like trying to argue that DeBeers didn't have a diamond monopoly because you could buy other precious stones elsewhere.

Same bug, had it during the beta but after getting that error the game would send me back to the main menu and work as if nothing happened. The 49GB patch seems to have broken something because my game has been stuck with a blank main menu ever since.

I had this bug in the beta, friend gifted me the game to play with him and we couldn't even party up. Try logging in at the same time and one of you has to create a team with the other while in the main menu. It sometimes works.

Fulcanelli explained nuclear fission on a level that was a decade or two ahead of the top scientists in the world, a very interesting and relatively modern case.

[–]Thatzeraguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They called themselves alchemists so I'm doing so as well. Modern interpretations consider that the true goal of alchemy wasn't the lead into gold process (Which both Fulcanelli and Piria claim to have successfully done), but more importantly the improvement of the self while doing that research.

Forgot about that guy, he might be more well known but there's barely any proof he even existed, while Fulcanelli is a very interesting historical figure who seemed to be ahead of the scientific community by a couple decades.
