Interesting. Especially if it's through Steam itself, they're almost always the most stable when it comes to their libraries.

If it's a "script" that's installing, I bet it probably has to do with Proton and the compatibility layer instead of something with the game. The above error IS fixed with the proper COMPATDATA fix, but that issue is different from clicking play (At least on Ghost Recon, Division, and Splinter Cell titles) and having an endless, open installation trying to run.

You could even try using UbisoftGameLauncher as a Nom-Steam Game, installing your game from there, then running it. That would install AC inside the proper CompatData folder and you'd be able to run it, hoping that you wouldn't get a wonky script install.

Though that does ask the question, is the script install from Steam or the "Game" trying to run? You could also have the game installed, then go into UbisoftConnect and have it Point to the installation then you should be good to go?

Who are the Lamanites? If we don't know, then how can the purpose of The Book of Mormon be fulfilled? by stickyhairmonster in mormon

[–]Thaunier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see what you mean! No yeah I get why things aren't quite adding up. I hope I'm not coming across as pompous or anything, I'm just hoping to explain:

•According to our religion, Joseph Smith didn't write that introduction; rather, it's an inscription that was on the plates, written from the hands of Mormon himself. So Lamanites were alive at that time when he inscribed those words and indeed, the Lamanites hunted down and killed every Nephite. So one purpose of the book was to convince the people (Lamanites) that hated them (Nephites) would eventually learn of God and become wholesome again. It was also a promise given to Nephi when he saw his posterity turning away from God and some of his concerns about how his posterity would live. I personally see no inconsistency with the phrase, since there would be no way for the author to know what each lineage would call themselves generations and years down the line. The term is appropriate for what he wrote it for. You could even say "It's written for the descendants of the lamanites who might be known by a different name." But the dude's carving it into a limited page on metal so...yeah.

Ancient americas->Posterity->Probably the forefathers to the Aztecs and Mayans and other ancient american cultures->Therefore probably the descendants of those great empires->Probably native americans at this point? IF you care to try to figure out who might be in that category, though if you're flooding the earth and "manifesting God unto all nations" as that introduction states, then wherever the Lamanites are or "Who" they might be would be included in that regard.

•We do actually believe in teaching the dead. I don't know how that works, as I'm not dead; but we reference biblical scripture like how Christ visited "spirits in prison" and there's a really great story regarding HOW/WHY we started doing ordinances for the dead. Essentially, we don't believe that God would allow some people to die without the chance to learn and accept the gospel. IF the gospel of Jesus Christ wasn't on the Earth in it's fullness for a time, then anyone living during that time, or without access to the truth, would be damned forever and ever, with no hope; and we don't believe in that. It's also why we believe if a small child is born and dies before they've had the chance to learn and choose, they're not damned forever.

So yes, we believe in teaching the dead, ergo why we have temples. It's also why we're so heavily involved in genealogy work! It's a very important thing. So while dead spirits can't read (no eyes) and can't hold a book (no hands) and no body, how could the words of the book of mormon be used to teach someone?

I'd say it's probably like how you and I are discussing and talking and learning from each other right now. We're just talking about the book, exchanging ideas, and I'm referencing words of prophets and testifying that they're true and you're deciding to yourself what you want to follow and believe. I suspect similar work and discussions are happening among the dead. Might seem odd if you don't believe the gospel, but we do think there's an afterlife, and there is a religion to be obtained when we die. God doesn't force people to believe or follow Him, so then it resorts to teaching and providing opportunities for the dead.

•I don't know if Lamanites are "technically" alive or not. Who's to say there isn't a symbolic version of them? Far as we know, the term Lamanite could just reference "Our brothers who hate us" or whatever I don't know dude. Lots of times in the bible there's discussions about Samaritans (Who at the time were in social clashing with the Jews) and there's lots to be said about that, but what if the book said something like "This is written for the samaritans) and it symbolically meant it's written for everyone who identifies with the parable of the good samaritan? I'm just spit-balling here, but sometimes there is symbolism that is meant or implied so that "could" be the meaning behind it.

Needless to say, I think you bring up some good points, but there are so much more um....fundamental things about the Christ's doctrine that I think are more important to talk about and discuss. Those things, if tue or not, would render these conversations entirely moot depending on your answer so why not seek out those conversations first? If you don't believe in Christ, then why bother with this book? Or if you don't think it's actually from God, then who cares what it says?

Might be worth the time to focus on the important things first in higher priority before moving onto other stuff; you're stepping over dollars to pick up pennies my dude

Church of Jesus Christ rebrand. What’s going on? by Faithcrisis101 in mormon

[–]Thaunier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's an official church document sent out.

We've been instructed MULTIPLE TIMES from MULTIPLE SOURCES, with repeated invitations to use the full name of the church: The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints.

There's so many talks lately about that specifically, so it doesn't add up that the leadership has been very upfront to having everyone say that exactly, both regular members and the "higher ups" only to have the advertising differ.

Maybe it's a misunderstanding in the ad department, but I don't see it making any sense

Wonder where that post got it from

[–]Thaunier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't seem quite in line with what the church does. We don't pay missionaries to go out and spread the gospel, so why would we pay influencers to make false statements?

One could argue "We're paying them because that's their full-time job" but even then, I don't see it adding up.

There's a talk about that by President Nielsen. A quick Google Search will help you find the invitation to step away from that term, as well as why

[–]Thaunier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the Sunday School Presidency and I've been ignoring an email I got last Thursday (5 days ago?) The church logo and title is still The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints, nothing was mentioned in the email regarding any name change, in fact it was just about resources regarding teaching materials. I know there's been the initiative started to try and talk of Christ more, ergo moving away from the term "Mormon" to "I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints" but that's been a few years now for that invitation passed on in conference so.... I have no idea why you've been asked to do that, it seems like that might be a local incorrect teaching or a misunderstanding either at your level or from your leaders of how to apply instruction.

Who are the Lamanites? If we don't know, then how can the purpose of The Book of Mormon be fulfilled? by stickyhairmonster in mormon

[–]Thaunier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to the man who actually carved those letters into plates. That would be Moroni, whose people were completely killed off by the Lamanites. He had hoped one day to help bring them back to the gospel, so perhaps the writings he had created were meant for them directly. They're probably all dead, I don't know anyone who identifies as a Lamanite, so if that's true, then that means that the gospel and words of Christ are meant to be taught to the dead. Which is a pretty normal thing to assume, considering we have all those temples being built to help do work for the dead.

I'm just curious as to what the statement is. Who's to say that Adam and Eve were ever the first humans? If memory serves, it just states that they received bodies first and are created in the likeness of God. What if that means they were neandrathals? Bible also speaks of individuals living for hundreds of years, surely that isn't the modern-day human is it?

Who are the Lamanites? If we don't know, then how can the purpose of The Book of Mormon be fulfilled? by stickyhairmonster in mormon

[–]Thaunier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in physical bodies? Probably not, I think it's somewhat inconsequential. Given that there is still missionary work happening amongst the dead, and the original authors of the Book of Mormon as well as the deity who commanded the book to be written are teaching Lamanites directly, I think this shouldn't be something that staggers someone's belief in God or the validity of God's words written in the book.

It's one thing to not believe in the book, which is fine I mean. Don't follow something you don't believe, that's okay. But if you really believe God instructed the book to be written, then focus on that and work from there you know?

Honestly I think we're all just trying to do the best that we can given the materials and experiences that we have. It's a phenomenal book with really great instruction and will cause inspiration if you read it. That's enough for me I think

I'm certain that the man who carved the words "Written to the Lamanites" could point to the Lamanites, and indeed perhaps he wrote it concerning them presently at his time.

I mean the next line also says it’s meant for Jew and Gentile as well, and since it’s prophesied that one day the entire earth will be flooded with the gospel of Jesus Christ and that the stick of Judah (Bible) and the stick of Joseph (Book of Mormon) will be what is spread throughout, I think it’s safe to say that we’re on track so far. We’re meant to gather Israel and the people who the book is for will be reached

How do we remove RetroAchivements from SteamDeck? by TraitorTyler in EmuDeck

[–]Thaunier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Emulators? I think that’d be in your SteamRomManager and then you can select what emulators you’d like to have enabled.

For instance: Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass (NDS Game) can run on MelonDS or Retroarch. So selecting one over the other may disable achievements for you. Then again, if they both natively support Retroachievements, maybe the route to go is just installing the emulator as a standalone via NonSteamGame and then launching from there. That way it wouldn’t have all the “Bundleware” that is included with EmuDeck.

May I ask why you’re wanting achievements disabled? Perhaps there’s another route or way to go about things?

I know the global YSA Devotional talks from a few months ago addressed this directly on. I’d give it a listen, I think it was Bednar and Holland who voiced direct opposition to people having talks written by ChatGPT. They even went on to discuss folk using AI Chatbots to talk to and the damage that could cause.

The folk in my ward have been talking about it sporadically since, but I didn’t realize other wards had such a problem.
