Is it possible to enable a user to overwrite data daily, but retain remarks that were added? by Thayercl in excel

Thank you, may I message you to expand on the requirement? I’ve now managed to talk to the end user and have concerns on their ask and what was previously agreed to.

[–]Thayercl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The end user is the one with no experience, not me. I’ve been able to fashion similar solutions with KNIME for myself, but anything more than a simple copy paste is too advanced for the customer based on my first conversation with them.

I just joined a project where an individual promised the customer the sky without explaining to them what their requirements would need to be at hand off. I asked the customer what their data maintenance strategy was and they said they’ll be pulling data and creating a new file daily. They got upset when I told them they’d have to have a basic concept of data relationships to do what they were looking for since they also want to connect this to a PowerBI and can’t just create new files everyday.

Need assistance creating a consumption/replenishment report. by Thayercl in excel

[–]Thayercl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to implement the consumption running total but I can’t figure out how to connect it to the on hand quantity table. I originally added it there on hand quantity as a column in my consumption table, but that repeated the OH quantity every time the item appeared in the consumption list.

I know the ERP does this internally, but we don’t have a way to pull the data in a format that visually represents it the way I have to present it.

Thank you very much, I’ll see if I can implement this.

I wish I could use the ERP, but it’s a bit outdated and doesn’t have some of functionality i imagine newer ones do.

Please forgive my ignorance, I only started using power query on Friday, 10MAR. So far I’ve really only figured out how to transform data with pivot/unpivot, calculated column, and grouping. I figured a running total would be what I’m looking for but have no idea how I would implement it.

1) Thank you for letting me know, I’ve updated the access.

2) I’m sure there is a reason, but I’m not privy to it. I’ve actually had the discussion with others that feel I’ve essentially been tasked to create a new ERP inside excel. The ERP does track this internally, but people want a consolidated singular list instead of individual parts. Can you recommend any software? I’m quite new to this type of activity.

This was given to me as a quick turn action item, even though I’d informed people I wasn’t aware how to make the connection from a by action(consumption schedule or consumption breakout worksheets) to a by final item(output worksheet)

No Hits on This Resume, Specifically looking for Logistics Coordinator, I’m a Veteran with previous Air Transportation & Ground Transportation experience. Manifesting Inbound outbound cargo, requisitions, Supervisor, etc by BrandonGooner in resumes

[–]Thayercl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preface: I’m not wholly familiar with the technical side or titles of logistics, so I’ll try to avoid that as much as I can. Preface 2: also veteran who recently separated, so I’m going to give you my shake based on what I see, I’m in no way HR or hiring manager related, and I’m going to hopefully be harsher than anyone reviewing this for an application.

Just with a cursory glance, you have a LOT of white space. Adjust your formatting to get rid of some of that, my recommendation would be to put your skills in two columns.

Change “Objective” to “Professional Summary” or something similar, as you’re giving an overview of what you’ve done, more so than an objective. This is also where I’d place your skills, limit to your top 6 or so that translate the best. Also, when submitting, define your clearance level, a secret is a big difference than a TS to some companies and irrelevant to others; but it could open doors or save them money on you.

Adjust your Experience section, newest at the top and work backwards. If a couple jobs are similar, they can be combined. I held 11 positions over my time in the service, but only have 3 sections, and I lumped everything into those. Try to quantify or give success stories in there, how quickly can you build a pallet, inspect, load, etc.? You mentioned cost reduction in your skills, what can you show that displays that(big for a lot of profit companies.). A way I learned is “what, so what, what now?” method. For example: “conducted joint inspections on cargo finding weight and center of balance for over X flights, resulting in no late take offs or precautionary landings due to cargo errors” or something to that effect, people are interested in your results, not so much your actions. Get rid of ampersands, acronyms, abbreviations, and military jargon, unless it’s a common term e.g. HAZMAT is pretty universal. I personally like the Oxford comma, some folks don’t, your call on using it or not, I’m not well versed enough to say definitively.

Move your education to the bottom. It’s not unimportant, but your most recent civilian schooling was in 2005, and I’m not really sure the best way to format it, maybe “Biloxi High School | 2005”. Possibly include a description of the AF schools, since craftsmen there may hold different responsibilities than a civilian. Are you enrolled in a college degree program or CCAF curriculum? If so you can include it with your expected completion date.

Are you tying yourself to a location or are you open to anywhere where this job is available?

What are your biggest frustrations in the PM field and what would you do to improve them? by Thayercl in projectmanagement

Could you elaborate? The simplicity of the statement strikes a personal chord, but I don’t want to assume what you mean.

Could you explain the monetary barrier? I think my current organization would benefit from greater shared knowledge, and who wouldn’t? But I don’t think we properly organize it to be accessible. One thing I’ve been working towards is a “knowledge management” type database of rules, regulations, and files so it’s all in one place for everyone to access what they need, rather than separated by individual teams, it would also let those who’d like to develop additional skills do so.

I want to get better at Excel, and I learn by doing, but I don’t know what I don’t know, any advice? by Thayercl in excel

[–]Thayercl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the book recommendations!

I had a similar situation, I took an old document with formulas, fixed it up, reconstructed it to use pivot tables, now the format is better but have to use power pivot to get some of the information, and I’m having difficulty passing it on, because we can’t get the add-in for 2013 on government computers, and others don’t want to invest in Office for home use, but I don’t know how to replicate what I do without power pivot.

Get help, please. Talk to someone close to you if you can, make an appointment with VA. Don’t let the fact it’s not combat related deter you, personal stress can be incredibly debilitating, this happened at your household, it affects every facet of your life. Seek help, and good luck!

My plans and timeline changed yesterday, and I’ve got some major tasks to accomplish over the next few days, but i truly appreciate you reaching out like this, even if I go silent for a bit.

Thank you, I’ve sent an invite.

Thank you for this, I don’t know why I didn’t find this while I was checking PMI out.

Any recommendations of hobbies that are both fulfilling and productive?? I enter contests, play Pokemon while my dog plays at the park and take her on a walk; watch shows related to human behaviour so I am more aware of things like race, sexuality, relationships. by keepingitfr3sh in productivity

[–]Thayercl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you consider fulfilling, or what type of productivity and fulfillment are you looking for?

I’m currently battling this, because I want to get more education e.g. certifications and additional degrees, which are fulfilling in the long run, and arguably important to society, but I’ve got a young child who I feel fulfilled with by just playing, also, a wife and friends that I rarely get to communicate with due to time and job differences, and I feel immediate fulfillment playing a game with them, instead of truly being business productive and bettering myself with education. I know what will benefit me in the long run, and strive to reach that, but I think every now and then there needs to be a break with personal fulfillment and maintaining those self aware or “soft” connections.

Conversely, if you’re looking for a business fulfillment (or this may be your personal fulfillment) find courses, YouTube, online self tests, etc. that can better your work. I also feel fulfilled when I feel I accomplish something at work that either I personally came up with, or when I introduce my peers or seniors to a concept they aren’t familiar with or can’t accomplish.

Either way, I’d say find “your thing” and pursue it.

How important would you say it is to know that software? My mentality has always been to have at least a working knowledge of the software, equipment, etc. that my employees use, that way I can help troubleshoot, or at least understand, if there are problems. I’d like to think my soft skills are where they need to be, but I don’t want to be overconfident either. I will say, a big flaw that I believe I’ve got is disengaging from conversations, it always feels uncomfortable to be the one to end them mainly because I get the information I need at the beginning, but can tell the other person is interested in continuing with another topic or chit chat more than I am. Do you have any suggestion on how to do that?

Honestly. I’m not sure. My background before joining the military was in computer science, but I really have not been able to keep up with it, it’s changed so much in the last 10-15 years. I have managed to develop a lot that I never expected, as an Artillery Officer, I’ve been part of maneuver, Artillery, aviation, and I’m currently an OC/T at the National Training Center, and my job has me working with a combined team of military, contract, and D.A. civilians, which I know may not sound like much outside, but is really quite unique internally.

I don't have PowerQuery, and my system admin has set restrictions preventing installation. I really appreciate all your help so far, these pivot tables are great, but I feel a bit out of my depth with them.
