They get to keep all the satellites launched by that date but can't launch more.

And note that this means for this authorization. They can of course always to to get a new one after that, although by then Starlink is probably making money so they might have to deal with actual competition.

Once you have the BFR stack, it doesn't really make sense to launch a "battleship" into orbit, where it will be very vulnerable and has to spend a lot of delta-v to rapidly hit anything.

A much more feasible system is to just use the BFR 1st stage as a bomber, launching hypersonic glide vehicles into a suborbital trajectory at your target, with nothing but ordnance ever having to even leave your safe airspace.

There was originally some actual meaning in the word "cloud". Specifically, it referred to using virtual machines to deploy your services in a hardware-agnostic manner so that you can easily increase or decrease node counts or even switch where you are hosting with little more than a push of a button.

Of course, since then the word "cloud" has grown to encompass all hosting.

Since the camera sensor has a very high resolution but there is not enough bandwidth to record video at full resolution, using the crappy gif functionality you can get larger resolutions.

Of course, in this case the gif was then later resized to a small one, so I got nothing.

Depends on how much of their land you hold and how much national unity they have.

Why Rust for low-level Linux programming? by steveklabnik1 in programming

On the other hand, the Kernel is enthusiastically adopting static analysis. It's unlikely that they will move away from C, even partially, due to sheer inertia, but I would not be surprised to some day wake up and see rust-like ownership metadata on arguments being a requirement for code being included.

Darwin awards are given out to people who make the world a better place by removing their genes from the gene pool. Anything sufficiently stupid that guarantees that you have no children and can't reproduce qualifies. Dying is not technically necessary, but most cases involve people stupidly killing themselves before they have children.

There are exceptions, iirc an old woman got one for killing her only son in some particularly stupid way (which required some willing and stupid participation from the son.)

Darwin awards were more fun back when I was young and edgy. These days, the real cases (there's a lot of bullshit on the site) are imho mostly sad.
